How to Get There
The property is fantastic. The pool and gardens are beautiful. The door to our balcony was broken and the could not fix it. We complained first thing in the morning of our second day. At the end of the day, we returned to find the handle had been removed. We had no access to the balcony. We ordered up an iron, ironing board, and a bucket of ice. 90 minutes later, when I went to the front desk, they could only apologize. This is a five star hotel with a 2 star staff. You'd better get your act together. Tourism is coming your way...
This place has it all - restaurants, a pool, exercise facilities, old church, gardens. It's not too far from Evora & the surrounding areas - or you can just stay put and relax! We went to the wine tasting in the old cellar, ate at the pizza restaurant (twice), loved the breakfast menu. The more fancy restaurant looked interesting, but we did not eat there. The only negative? we stayed in room 218, which is one of 2 rooms that are in the main part of the old building, and our room had virtually no windows. Only a small "porthole" that overlooked the gravel driveway to the front entrance. The air conditioning was quite challenged (it was 27-28C), and since there was no decent size window to provide a breeze, it was a bit stifling at night. Both the bedroom & bathroom were quite large, and very nice closet space. Excellent front desk service!
As part of our tour in Portugal we stopped here only for one night. But what an amazing place. The room although small was so rich with beauty and very comfortable. The grounds, the pools and the oldest olive tree made our short stay wonderful. And the food.....the best you could ask for in a stunning location.
After a four year break from my last visit to Convento I have to kick myself for taking so long to return. This place truly is magical and the staff as always are key here. The warmth of welcome and genuine interest in making your stay the best it can be is at a level other hotels should be in awe of. There have been some fantastic upgrades to the hotel with a new lighter menu at the pool bar and also a wonderful little Italian casual dining restaurant in an area of the hotel that was under-utilised before.
Reception also has undergone some really nice changes and it’s like a breath of fresh air has gone through the property. Out are the old dark uniforms and now a light and more modern uniform goes to compliment the overall changes.
The spa as always never disappoints with always a smile from the staff. This property is well worth a visit and as an independent property I have to say I’m so very much impressed. I’ll be returning much sooner than later this time.
Do not miss this wonderful historic covenant reborn as a top hotel. Visit the beautiful church attached to the hotel and worship! Tour is a must do. Service and attitudes of staff were excellent, grounds well kept, excellent dinner (although pricey) in restaurant and very good buffet breakfast in the former winery room of the monks. Magnificent view from our room windows - which we opened in the early morning to hear the birds flying from and to the citrus and olive trees and let the crisp sun shine in. My wife even saw some horses running in the distance. Huge bed - as in 2 king beds wide. Simple but beautifully elegant furniture. Truly feels like you are staying at an estate but with a welcoming feel.
