How to Get There
We stayed here 2 nights during a planned Tauck tour of Portugal. We had a nice room with a balcony. Breakfast was SUPERB with many lovely items of fresh fruit, bakery goodies, cereals, hot items and eggs made to order. Eating breakfast in the convent wine cellar was charming and beautiful. One of our dinners was served in the wine cellar and was absolutely divine. One could visit the convent's chapel which was beautiful and serene inviting one to pause and sit down a moment. There are several public rooms throughout that allow for rest, relaxing or conversation with friends. We did enjoy the nice outdoor pool area surrounded by a garden space, also has a pool bar. Our room faced the afternoon sun so temperature control was a bit of a challenge. It helped to keep the drapes pulled to prevent the sun from heating up the room. While the location is out of town and requires transportation to town it's privacy adds to the peacefulness. We loved this stay and felt privileged to stay here. There is a good deal of wonderful religious art through out the public spaces. Staff is professional. Would highly recommend this hotel.
We have enjoyed a lovely 5 day stay and have loved every minute. We arrived early and the staff kept us comfortable and fed while we waiting for our room to be readied. The hotel is build in and around a 15th century convent. Many elements of the convent remain, including the main building and cloisters, the huge, ornate chapel, the convent’s aqueduct, olive groves and citrus groves. Add in manicured gardens, indoor and outdoor pools, spa, lovely luxurious rooms, fabulous restaurants, bar and breakfast and you have a space that is a lovely retreat. The staff are amazing. Every one we have interacted has been amazing, but Ricardo was the absolute best. They helped us pick outings and adventures and score reservations - their recommendations have taken this trip from good to outstanding. Wish we were staying longer. Would love to come back. Stay here!!!!
We stayed at the Convento do Espinheiro for two nights in late June. It was a wonderful experience. The staff were extremely helpful in finding us a restaurant in Evora on the Sunday night. That was a great experience too. The room was in the older part of the building and it was traditional and very large (301). The views of the orange trees and olive trees from the wind were charming and relaxing. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large with a seperate shower room and bath.
The convent is about 4 kms from the old town of Ever- just a bit far to walk. The drive is simple and there is ample parking (free) outside the walls of Evora.
Breakfast was lavish with all sorts of offerings including a omelet station. Again the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
If you want to relax with confort, stay in Convento do Espinheiro. The rooms are very confortable, with two big chairs in it and I should pount it out that “ two chairs( usually in hotels there is only one chair and generally very unconfortble). Everything in the room is good( the shower, the fridge- just for you. They do not pack the fridge with things. So you can use as yours. If you ask the frint desk they will supply for you). TIP: ask for a room in the new area ( if you, as I am, do not need to sleep in the convent room). The rooms called “convent rooms” do not have a balcony. It is very good to see the sunset in the balcony. Breakfast 10!
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, but it's the building and its surroundings that are extraordinary. The conversion from convent to hotel was masterful and created a memorable place to stay. Check out the 1000 year old olive tree on the grounds.
