How to Get There
We booked our room (3 nights) via the Belgian travel agent Caractère. Beside the mentioning of “superior double room” on our voucher, we had no idea what to expect. To our great surprise, we were given the superb room “Infanta D Isabel”, next to the church. The bathroom had a walk-in shower and a jacuzzi bathtub. The main restaurant “Divine” was the place to be for great food, both for breakfast and dinner. The Italian restaurant, also in the convent, was of a lower level, but still good food, and no reservations required. Staff was very friendly. Take some time to find your way in this convent (it is really big)! We can only recommend this place (and “our room”).
I had booked the hotel as our last stop after a long journey touring Portugal. We expected 5 star service but we received far from it. We had stayed at many hotels in our 10 day tour, none were over 3 star but the service and staff were always friendly, inviting and accommodating. When we checked into Convento, reception was snooty, gave us incorrect information about the restaurant menus and did not bother to either explain the layout of the hotel or show us around. We booked facials on our checkout day but could only get slots that exceeded checkout time. The hotel was unwilling to give us a one hour extension. Instead they charged us a 50 euro checkout fee without ever telling us there was a late checkout fee. They absolutely refused to reverse the charge. We were never told about a late check out fee plus it’s not posted anywhere. That is deception. The hotel has beautiful rooms, a wonderful spa and pool area but unless the service is on par, it’s not worth the disappointment. Sorry to say, we will not stay here again or recommend it to friends.
Don’t miss this beautiful hotel that was once a monastery where they also made olive oil and wine. Beautiful common areas, indoor and outdoor pool and spa. Wine tasting every evening at 6pm was a extra nice amenity.
