Cool design, a hot bar and warm staff create the perfect temperature at this hip boutique hotel

The Lowdown

Hip but not haughty, the Avalon is a design hotel—which means every detail was carefully planned. The 101 rooms are paragons of mod minimalism and have bathrobes, slippers, flatscreen TVS, and, in some cases, a bathtub in the center of the room. The same care is lavished on drinks at the popular bar and the Swedish specialties in the restaurant. Guests who love the modern décor and funky vibe linger on site despite the temptations of Göteburg’s nightlife all around them.

In the Area

Smack in the heart of Kungsportsplaten, the famed nightlife district, the Avalon is perfectly situated for exploring the city’s music and bar scene. But there’s plenty to see in the daytime, too. The hotel is within walking distance of Baltespannarparken, a popular park that hosts a skating rink in winter; the Göteborg City Museum; the Maritiman Museum on board a fleet of historic ships; and the Göteborg Opera. It’s also deliciously close to Östermalms Saluhall, the city’s historic food hall, so you can taste the best the city has to offer by day and listen to its finest music by night.

Very very raccomended if you looking for a nice balance between cost and service, beautiful to stay in the center just in front of street food market.

Efficient and pleasant hotel

We stayed at Avalon Hotel for three nights. I was a bit skeptical about the "Feng Shui" stuff, which I think sounds a bit silly. The certificates for successful "free flow of energy lines" are displayed in the lifts. But this doesn't matter, really, as I really liked the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was big enough, the bed was comfortable, and for a city-centre location it was quiet. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent experience.

Great hotel

Great hotel, spacious bedroom, the staff was very kind and the hotel is well located. Breakfast buffet was very good.
They also have an interesting environmental policy aiming to reduce wastes without impacting the quality of service.

Nice bar and dinner!

We had a nice evening, with a good house wine. The bar is really comfy and relaxed. People come in, relax, have a drink or two. They have spacious chairs in the bar area. Its also very nice places by the fireplace near the lobby. The dinner was good as well, we went for the small dishes, tapas style.

Customer Service makes up for strange bedding arrangement
Reviewed 2 months ago

Bedding configuration for a King bed is a little strange - made up by joining two single bed bases together with a thin mattress over two bases to sleep on. Instead of a king size duvet, there are two single duvets to cover the 'king' mattress. Naturally it gave a weird sleeping experience that I've never encountered in other hotels. On the up side, customer service experience was wonderful. Special mention to Tielde who provided brilliant recommendations on where to eat, and also Sarah for always being helpful and cheerful every time. Thanks for making my stay in Gothenburg a memorable one. Free breakfast offered good choices. Cinnamon buns and sausages were delicious
