The Lowdown

The Balearic isle of Mallorca in the Med makes for a holiday treat all year round, with a balmy climate, glittering seas, soft sandy beaches and the easy-going nature of the locals blending a cocktail of pure pleasure from start to finish. Stay in the dazzling modern-meets-retro OD Port Portals hotel, near the swanky Puerto Portals yachting marina, and you can add a host of top-notch bars, restaurants and boutiques into the mix.
Mingle with the jet set or simply retreat to the tranquil surrounds of the hotel, the work of renowned designers Victor Rahola Aguadé and Mayte Matutes. With its Mondrianesque facade, hand-picked designer furniture and quirky sculptures, the retro-style lobby could have stepped from the pages of a glossy interiors magazine.
Enjoy a lazy breakfast on the terrace until midday, take a dip in the small but perfectly formed pool, loll on a day bed, work out in the gym or book a massage. Later, ascend to the aptly named SkyBar for a sundowner on the roof terrace, complete with fabulous views. It will come as little surprise to learn OD Port Portals boasts a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.

A bit student hostel

Not terribly impressed with this hotel. On website they say yards from the beach!! Only if you are a bird! No restaurant, takeaway food offered from 2 local restaurants but after an hour from our order still not received anything, the receptionist rings and tells us they can’t get thru to restaurants!! Not great! Beds ok but low to the ground, not good for my back. Suite is tiny with sink 2.5’ from bed, shower could not maintain temperature, either boiling hot or cold. I would say that the staff were all really nice, friendly and willing to do their best but this hotel has no frills, no luxury, no food (well they do serve breakfast). We were originally booked in for 3 nights but decided to pay £180 extra to change our flight to go home 1 night early to sleep in our own bed! Would not stay here again. Also very strange building/generator noise every few seconds 24/7, not conducive to sleep.

Nice hotel, shame about some staff

This hotel is good for a short break and as a base to explore Portals and Palma. The rooms were clean and spacious. The pool outside is small, hence why I would suggest it as a base, the nearby beaches and marina are lovely. There is a car park which is helpful. The breakfast was nice and all in all the hotel was good value for money.
Unfortunately, I was just very much let down by the staff attitude on our last day. We were spoken to very rudely by the pool area for eating an ice cream which we had bought from the shop as we had been for a walk. They came over to me and said I had to throw it in the bin (I was on my sun bed relaxing and was half way through my ice cream) it was totally embarrassing. When I said I would not through it away but would ensure I wouldn’t bring an ice cream back again, they sent the manager over. As the pool was small, everyone could hear and see what was happening and I was left totally embarrassed. They said you can only buy ice creams from the hotel even though I had no idea they sold them and no one had been round to offer us a drink let alone a menu all morning. I understand these rules are in place for a reason so the hotel can make money, but I am a 30 year old women and was on holiday with my mum and was left feeling totally embarrassed after spending over £700 to stay at the hotel for a few nights. This was poor customer service and I would have preferred if they would have pulled us over privately and just let us know their ‘rule’.

Quirky contemporary room

We were booked into a deluxe room which was well appointed and quirkily the shower was at the front with windows overlooking the pool and our balcony. They were sufficiently high enough to preserve ones modesty!! The toilet and sink area was at the rear of the room open plan with a sliding opaque glass door to the loo! Bed was comfy. We had a b&b package and breakfast was excellent. We also ate lunchtime snacks which were lovely if a bit on the pricey side as were the drinks, however that's typical in hotels. Pool area was not extensive but they had Bali beds and in fairness we never struggled to get a sunbed. The hotel is situated on a main road and there was traffic noise round the pool.
