A really nice hotel
Reviewed 22 hours ago

We’re into our second week here at Rui and I would recommend this place.

Pros
There’s 2 pools on different levels, there’s also a footie court and volley ball court in a separate level and a baby pool on another. plenty of beds there’s no rush to run out at 6am and get your towel down. It’s very hot. The staff are very friendly and if you tip them you can get premium branded drinks (recommended) we had beefeater gin instead of the dull stuff they serve to everyone else. Food is served all day every day. You never have to go hungry, one restaurant closes, another opens. The entertainment team are good, they ask to get you involved and if you don’t want to - they won’t hassle you. 3 speciality restaurants. Asian = Amazing! Bbq= good. Canaria = we’re trying tonight. Free bus service to the beach is great it’s only 5 mins on the bus which is specific to the hotel Rui considering it’s a long way down I was pleased. The beach is gorgeous also and there’s nice restaurants to eat at around that area. The rooms is modern and have great movies channels (if you find an English speaking one)

Cons
The main restaurant Is ok. Nothing great - too many fish dishes. One time I picked up cheese with crackers and which I thought had nice chutneys to compliment to which I found out were marmalade and honey to go with crackers. Weird combination. Give the restaurants their due, if you didn’t like anything they were making, fish, rabbit, fish, fish.... lol they did have pizza and pasta which was very nice. Another con unfortunately for me personally so not a dig at the hotel but there was very few British people here and I did find some of the other nationalities very rude. For example I’m standing in a queue to get food at a certain station and a couple just cut Infront of me. Same happened when I was queuing for the free bus to the beach. One time someone actually walked into my partner and didn’t even apologise. I appreciate manners. I am not a fan of rudeness. The tv in the room has channels which is mostly in German. Quite annoying - if only you could change it. No pool service for drinks. Compared to holidays in Egypt which is still my favourite. You don’t get served at the pool you have to go up for drinks and the cup they give you for anything you’re drinking is very small. I did say to my partner it’s like we’re living in a tiny doll house. Even the wine glasses are miniature. No food at the pool either - not a con for me but might be to other folk. Other thing was smoking is permitted everywhere outside at the pool(s) area it would be good to have a designated smoking area. No inflatables are permitted either.

It might seem I’ve got a lot of cons but the hotel is actually very lovely. Sports bar, theatre bar, 3 restaurants and you have the main one. It’s a big hotel and it is lovely. It’s definitely a 4 star hotel and as I said at the beginning I would recommend. Me personally, I wouldn’t rush back but I wouldn’t knock it if I returned to Gran Canaria

Good for Price but nothing special

My partner & I booked a last minute holiday via TUI for a June break. She had stayed in a Riu hotel a number of years ago and said it was the “best hotel she had stayed in”. We both enjoyed our week away, however, we expected so much more from this hotel.

Pros:
- Spacious rooms
- Great sea views from rooms and dining area
- Plenty of sun loungers
- Due to location of hotel, sun is out until 9ish (June visit)
- Spacious restaurant
- Great swimming pool facilities (didn’t find it cold like other people said on TA)
- Free bus ride down to Amadores beach
- Close to Amadores beach, Puerto de Mogán & Puerto Rico

Cons:
- Food very repetitive - no themed nights - sea breeze restaurant did serve apparently BBQ one evening, however, was the same food as the main restaurant
- Noticed next day some food served at breakfast & dinner was left overs from previous day
- Complete lack of awareness around allergies - my partner is gluten free & was told practically everything had gluten in the food (even food that shouldn’t such as paella, vegetables covered in bechamel sauce, potato salads & rice salads)
- Alcohol on offer was poor - only larger was Amstel, cheap spirits (gin was horrendous!)
- No tea & coffee facilities in the room
- Poor entertainment in the evening
- Nowhere to go for a leisurely walk in the evening (unless you caught a taxi to sea level)
- Complimentary room (to change after check out) was extremely dirty with towels & sponges on the floor

I don't know where to start! Wow!

We arrived here on the 15th June for an 11 night get away. Immediately we were greeted by helpful and friendly staff who suggested we have dinner before checking in. After dinner check in was so quick, our bags were even in our room waiting for us. Was a brilliant start to our holiday.

Let me go through the review section at a time.

FOOD and DRINK:
Wow what can I say? Such a variety ranging from typical Mediterranean dishes, a healthy corner, pasta, pizza, carved meats and lovely little desserts. Everything was fresh and plentiful. I've stayed in a fair few all inclusive resorts, even a gormet one, so I have high standards. Impressed to say the least. Drinks were very good too.

ROOMS:
Beautiful rooms, very spacious, amazing sea views. Always cleaned to an exceptional standard. Wonderful shower. I've read people thought the beds were too hard but for me it was spot on. A wonderful nights sleep every night. Good selection of TV channels. Caters for every taste and nationality.

POOLS:
So. Many. Sunbeds. Yes, really, no reserving at 7am to get a good bed. Even at 11 or 12 o'clock you can pick from a large selection of beds. Beautiful views from the pools. 2 pools and a children's pool. Bars are at the 2 pools. Very good indeed. Pools are very clean and never amazingly crowded.

STAFF:
Being a regular traveller I've encounter an enormous volume of hotel staff in my time. This hotel is up there with the best in terms of its staff. It's a big selling point for me. ALL the staff were always smiling, welcoming, friendly and happy. It's so refreshing. From the check in staff to the restaurant staff, the entertainment staff and the cleaning staff, all of them are amazing. I will say though, Arte, who usually works in the sports bar was brilliant. Always taking an interest, always smiling and always welcoming. He'd always talk to you and he stands out in my eyes.

ENTERTAINMENT:
From ping pong tournaments to bingo and evening shows the team were so skilled. Brilliant interaction and a wonderful choice of things to do. They were never pushy and made me feel comfortable (I can be a bit shy in a group)

I could go on and on but to sum it up, this hotel is amazing, the staff and fantastic and it's just a brilliant place. Location is great. Free shuttle bus to the beach, 2 bus stops outside the hotel, the island is so accessible from here. I can't recommend this place enough. ☆☆☆☆☆

3rd time excellance

This hotel is definitely our favorite all inclusive so far, have never been disappointed and would return again.
Didn't see any sickness at any time and we both ok.
Food excellent at all times with soooo much choice. Sea Breeze for lunch can be a little windy but you can easily find a sheltered area if required.
The refit work to hotel is very nice including rooms and staff in all areas are very professional and courteous with smiles.
Entertainment team work very hard and do a great job, its up to you how much you get involved.no arm twisting so to speak.

we love the Riu Vistamar and will hopefully return next year.

Newly refurbished and well situated with stunning sea views, upgrading to a sea view room with extra space well worth it, restaurants and bars ok nothing great but to be expected as it is a club and not a palace.Could do with some bar stools around the main bar as otherwisw have to stand.
