Ultimate Arabian getaway on a secluded stretch of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, with one of the area's best spas and a slow-life philosophy

The Lowdown

If ever there was a time and a place to max out your credit cards, Six Senses Zighy Bay is it. The indulgence starts upon arrival: guests can choose to self drive from Dubai (ill-advised over the rugged mountain pass!), use the hotel transfer (much better), motorboat from the UAE border, or paraglide from the rocky cliff right to the Gulf of Oman. (Thrill-seeking regulars have been known to leave the property and come back again, just to try a different approach.) Once you’re on property, there’s nowhere to go except into the tranquil sea or to the rustic but luxurious spa. Which is totally fine, because the world-renowned Six Senses Spa can relieve all the associated pains of traveling to such a remote location, and the 82 thatch rustic-luxe villas make even the call of the wild hard to resist. Days follow a typical pattern: a late-morning buffet of exotic fruits and Middle Eastern breakfast specialties (shakshuka, mezze, thick yogurt) sans shoes; lounging by the water’s edge or lazing in your villa’s private pool; biking on a cruiser around the sandy property; dinner on the beach. It’s a great opportunity to get through Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale (the book, not the series—no Hulu here) and reconnect with whomever you traveled. Expect to chat up your chaise-longue neighbors, typically Brits who will spill stories of exotic adventures and other glamorous Arabian nights.

In the Area

Oman has become a mecca for in-the-know scuba divers. Discover unspoiled waters with Extra Divers, an international chain of diving centers with a local outpost. Better yet, book a sunset cruise through the concierge at the nearby marina. You’ll sail past the Musandam Fjords while nibbling on canapés and sipping champagne.

Unique, Remote and Unforgettable!
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Everything about this resort is an exhiliarating experience beginning upon arrival at the gate and then having a driver take us to the resort which entails exciting switchbacks up and over a mountain before arriving at a seaside resort designed to capture the essence of a traditional Omani fishing village with all the modern and luxurious amenities combined with the exotic Omani charm and a wonderfully warm welcome. The location of this resort is stunningly beautiful, nestled between mountains and the sea.
The stone villas each have a lovely plunge pool and the interiors are spacious, beautifully appointed with the added feature of an outdoor shower.
The staff are truly very well trained, attentive and helpful.
We dined at two of the restaurants and were delighted with the food!
My husband loved the paragliding experience they offer.
The only caveat to this review is that we went during Ramadan which meant not all the restaurants were open, alcohol could only be consumed in the privacy of your villa and could not be brought in. Being there during Ramadan also meant that it was very quiet and relaxing.

Unbelievably good

My wife and I celebrated her birthday at Zighy Bay over Eid and it is a truly unforgettable experience. The paragliding entrance is something we'll remember forever, it's such a nice way to start the break! Once back on the ground, we were promptly whisked away to our beach pool villa. I highly recommend going for a beach front villa to have the waves crashing just beyond your private pool!

The service, food, setting, attention to detail and staff were exceptional throughout our stay and I would suggest to anyone who is unsure about whether to go or not to just book it NOW and do yourself a favour.

Also - having stayed at Al Maha Resort, which is pretty much double the price, this represents far better value for money.

Special thanks to Andre Miethig and Simon Beckett.

Relaxing vacation

I drove my car to the Zighy bay Area using the GPS
I was shocked that there is no resort only a big mountain in front of me and small gate with the sign Six Senses

A guy from the staff was there
He asked me if you want we will take you by our own cars or you will drive
I drove my self climbing the mountain and I surprised the resort in front of me with wonderful view and quiet private location

Simply awesome to have 4 days relaxing and have the great Spa treatments

Paradise on Earth

The resort is beautifully installed in the middle of the bay. The villas are very well appointed and the activities are terrific! As you can read, the hotel is magnificent but the staff is way over that, they are AMAZING. Everything started with a single discussion upon arrival by our GEM, then Rey our villa attendant and later Jayson the Executive Head Housekeeper. Every time , the service was attentive and personalized. We met James the Executive Head chef, Andre EAM and Mohan which made our honeymoon above the clouds. When you work in a sector, you think you know what is the best but....Six Senses Zighy Bay is above that! Mr McGrath is doing a fantastic job building a team around him in such a remote location and creating a unique experience! Thank you and it is a must DO!

Best place in the world...

Incredible place to relax, my 3rd time in this resort and will definitely come back. The overall service is excellent. Many places can learn from you how to treat a guest properly. Everyone and everything makes you feel comfortable in this place as they always know what you need before you think that. Very detail orientated and that's why you are the best!

Thank you very much again for everything.
