Great hotel with lovely surroundings
Reviewed 2 days ago

We stayed at this hotel in July 2018.. we thought the hotel was lovely.. beautiful surroundings with great views over the algarve..

We booked bed and breakfast only.. breakfast was good with plenty on offer and we didn’t find any problems with queueing etc..

The evening meal in the Mon chic restaurant set menu, was good, but we thought the chicken portion could’ve been a bit more generous in the pasta dish.. only 2 pieces!..
perhaps more choice would make it more worth while, food tasted very good though from what was on offer. Perhaps more variety on the evening set menus in both restaurants.

The room was very spacious being a suite, bed was very hard though, but staff gave us extra padding, blankets etc... this was the only down side for us. Perhaps more variety of mattresses would help?. The hotel staff also took a while to respond and eventually helped us out. First time I’ve experienced beds like this at a 5 star hotel though.

Caldes de Monchique was a short walk away from the hotel, very nice to walk to on a warm evening with some good restaurants. Monchique itself is a bit further, and has two restaurants, but seemed more like a standard mountain village.. a few restaurants here worth a visit with very good food though.

So overall a lovely hotel worth a visit if you want to get away from the touristy algarve areas, more variety in evening restaurant menu is needed, and we expected more comfortable beds.

Excellent service & facilities

We recently enjoyed an amazing day of relaxation in this superb hotel..
The staff were very attentive and the cleanliness of the facilities is what you would expect of a 5 star resort.
We also enjoyed a divine lunch in the restaurant with views over Monchique.
This is the perfect place to get away from everything and unwind.
We look forward to returning in the near future & would recommend the hotel in a heartbeat.
Thanks again to all the staff involved who helped make the experience so special!

Mini break

From start to finish we was surpassed in our expectations. We arrived mid afternoon and as soon as we parked up we were greeted by David a porter, who showed us to reception, a tour of the resort and then to our room, he was amazing his English was probably better than mine and he answered any questions we had.

Our room - it was fantastic probably nicest we have stayed in, two bathrooms both with showers and one with bath, a good sized master bedroom and ample storage and a really good sized lounge/kitchen area. The room was clean and tidy and all the facilities you’d need including towels for both the bathroom and the pool area, robes and sandals. The only minor thing with the room was the TV not for viewing but the TV is used as a smart TV to give details about the hotel, it freezes a lot, the controls take a while to respond and doesn’t give you the opportunity to pause details whilst they automatically flick through option (eg spa menu) I think the facility could be good but at the moment maybe a hard copy in the room would also be good, but again this is so minor as a quick ring through to spa or reception and they’ll give you all the details you need.

Hotel facilities - really pleased two outdoor pools (1x heated), fantastic lounging areas with ample beds, pool bar with good stock, cocktail bar serving tapas, and two really good restaurants, the breakfast buffet restaurant was fantastic plenty of choice and good quality, again only minor thing was with cooking toast oblynine toaster and literally takes 10 minutes to toast a slice of bread so when it’s busy can be a stress, we ate at the Mon Chic restaurant and the food there was out of this world the chef is a genius, they offer a €30 3 course menu and it’s really good, changes every night and good choice of meat, fish, vegetarian and pasta, or the main menu is brilliant food for the money you really won’t be disappointed (have the rosemary creme brûlée)

Staff - they were all great, from the porters, to bar staff to the waiters/waiteresses they all there to make sure your stay is perfect and will help with everything they can

Location - peaceful at its best, up in the mountains with little to no noise, if you like getting out and about see Jeorge at reception for a trail map the views are worth it, I’d highly recommend a car for your trip it is isolated with only a small restaurant/bar around the corner, Monchique has a couple of bars and restaurants in the town but that isn’t a walk away

Honestly loved our stayed, would go back tomorrow

Wonderfully relaxing holiday

We spent 5 nights at Mcdonald Monchique and we were really impressed. Our suite was clean, spacious, and comfortable with great views of the mountains. All members of the staff we met were friendly and helpful, and we especially appreciated the tour at the beginning of our stay.
We went for the half board option and loved the food in Mon-chic restaurant. Breakfast buffet was great, especially the omelette station and delicious custard tarts!
Other positives include plentiful free classes eg pilates, lovely and refreshing outdoor pool, and speedy WiFi connection.
We had a hire car which meant we could visit other areas in the Algarve easily, and there was plenty of parking at the hotel.
We would definitely visit again - the only thing I would do differently next time would be to take some teabags (the tea supply in the room was not refilled during our stay) and maybe some nespresso capsules (machine available in the room, but again no further capsules after the initial supply!).
