The Lowdown

The recently opened Macdonald Monchique Resort & Spa offers a tranquil haven of rest and relaxation set amidst the scenic Portugal countryside. Set in a rural location, prepare to unwind at this chic retreat and take in idyllic views over the area from more places than one – not least, the fantastic outdoor swimming pool and surrounding gardens.
When you’re not taking in the surrounding countryside, while away a morning in the sleek spa, where extensive facilities will keep you occupied for hours. Enjoy a light lunch of sharing dishes in A Petiscaria, before hitting a nearby golf course for a leisurely round. Pre-dinner cocktails are an obvious introduction to evenings here, best followed by dinner with a generous side of mountain views at Mon-Chic restaurant.

Great experience at Monchique resort & Spa

the hotel is amazing, incredibly clean, the staff is very welcoming and helpful, the food and breakfast is great and the facilities make this hotel a very good choice if you want to escape from stress and you want to relax and have a good time in Portugal

First class in the mountains

A first class hotel with superb rooms. We had an enormous bed with an attached lounge, and a private sundrenched patio. Meals are excellent with a buffet breakfast with made to order omlettes and an enormous choice besides. Meals during the day are provide at the poolside bar or the pizzarea, and the restaurant is first class. Spa facilities are excellent. Although a distance from the coast Portimao is only a 30 minute drive away

Would not return

Although we enjoyed our stay we wouldn't return to this hotel. The hotel was full so the outdoor pool was overrun with people. More thought needs into making the other outdoor pool heated so everyone can enjoy a swim. The spa facilities costs 25 Euros per person! The hotel was too hot and a lot of people complained but nothign seemed to change. Even though food was excellant we feel that it is very overpriced for portugal. 5 Euros for a small glass of wine.
