Enigma – Nature & Water Hotel
What We Love
- A contemporary hotel near Portugal's sunny Algarve, with breakfast and a dinner optionKick-starting each day with complimentary breakfast
- Exploring the secluded beaches nearby
- The gorgeous natural beauty of this sun-soaked region
What To Know
- Brand new hotel opened in 2016
- There's an indoor and outdoor pool
- The property is smaller, so those looking for a large resort should go elsewhere
How to Get There

Thank you Rita!
Wish I had read the reviews on here before booking this hotel!!! Potentially excellent, but poorly managed.
The friendly staff try to help, but the management do not appear when you have a problem, they leave it for the poor staff to face the customer. Three times I tried to see somebody in authority without success.
From the moment we arrived we had problems with unlocking the door from outside, and locking the door from outside. On the second day it came to a head when we could not lock the door, and couldn’t get reception staff to help as they were busy checking in customers. We spent half an hour waiting for someone to come to our room and try to lock with another key. We went off out for dinner, and asked the receptionist to move our belongings to a room that locks. Returned to the hotel 3 hours later, the door was open, with our belongings still in there!!!!!!
Nobody cares here, we won’t be back!!! Such a shame, as Spa is good, rooms are nice, and breakfast is good!
The room was fine, although there was a bit of damp and there were lots of rust marks on the balcony from the feet of the chairs. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were wonderful. The staff were very friendly but the restaurant area lacked waiting staff that knew what they were doing. However the staff in the pool bar were fantastic. Four of us dined, there was only one choice of Vino Verde and they didn’t have that. Two dinners were the chicken dish which had been microwaved so was dry and stodgy and only warm, they took it away and I heard the ding of the microwave for a 2nd time, needless to say we didn’t eat it or return to the restaurant for a second night, there were lots of other problems with our visit to the restaurant too.
We got this hotel through Secret Escapes on what seemed a reasonable deal, and to be fair it was. The hotel is sticking in its location, very nice surroundings. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the breakfast was very good and the rooms were a good size and adequately furnished.
What perhaps did let it down was some of the maintenance, which for a seemingly new hotel was surprising, it seemed that some of the hotel has damp problems which they seem to be cosmetically trying to fix but fear there may be long term problems. Like wise for a spa hotel parts of the inside perhaps could be fresher. Finally the evening dinner was just bizarre, we were one of only 2 tables in the whole restaurant, after eating it was obvious why, i would advise heading into one of the local villages. The pool bar though does provide some good snacks.
Overall it’s worth a visit for a couple of nights due to the surrounding and general friendliness of staff. If the hotel got its fine details ( particularly dinner) and general maintenance sorted it could be perfect!
The only bad thing is that it was a very short stay.
We booked through their website and then I called to add the romantic pack which includes sparkling wine, chocolate truffles and one diner. The food in the restaurant is very good as well as the drinks and salads in the pool bar. I loved the watermelon and raspberries natural juice.
We also had a very relaxing massage in the SPA. All the staff is very friendly and do all they can to make you feel at home.
We will definitely come back.
