The spa resort of Igalo, in Montenegro, has long been favoured by those in the know seeking to benefit from the legendary curative powers of its natural minerals and mud. They’re also attracted by the balmy year-round climate, oodles of sunny days and warm, shallow waters. Palmon Bay Hotel and Spa is a shiny addition to the resort’s hotel scene. Making a bold, modern statement on the seafront, its shimmering reflective glass soaks up the mesmerising vista of Boka Kotorska Bay at every turn.
The hotel is a short stroll away from the sea, where you find an exclusive private beach where you can lounge about on a sunbed on the pebbles or terrace (accessible from May 2016). Make sure you wallow in the calm water too and on chillier days, there’s a perfectly inviting indoor swimming pool back at the hotel, alongside a spa. Elsewhere you’ll find three restaurants and two bars, one with a terrace with spectacular views across the water.
How to Get There
A modern well presented hotel with stunning views across the bay. We stayed in the superior double with sea view and after speaking to others it was definitely worth paying the extra for this room, as other rooms were a lot smaller. Our room was spacious with a great sized bathroom with walk-in shower.
Service in the hotel was good but prices in the bar were nearly double what you would pay in other local bars/restaurants.
Housekeeping was good but could have been a little bit better.
Food in the hotel was average at best in the restaurant, little choice on offer and very repetitive. Even though we had half board we ate out most nights.
Breakfast was ok but nothing special, my advice would be to go bed/breakfast and eat out, there are plenty of really good restaurants near the hotel, which are very reasonably priced serving good quality food.
He had a lovely stay at the Palmon, the staff were lovely, particularly Maria who was the hostess at breakfast, she was very sweet with our baby. The bar staff were all very accommodating.
We had treatments at the spa which were good, and we enjoyed using the jacuzzi and pool (although the pool was quite cold!). Again, the staff were lovely.
I used the gym a few times, it's very small and doesnt offer too much, and is quite airless in there, but I still had a good workout each time.
We decided to go out for trips to Kotor and Dubrovnik and the reception staff were very good in helping us organise the days out.
We stayed b&b. The breakfast was ok. Although the "hot" food was luke warm at best, so we stuck to yogurt and bread for breakfast.
The room was spacious and comfortable. We were disappointed that the smart TV in the room was not hooked up to the internet, so the only british TV channel we had was the news. I ended up watching Netflix on my phone.
We were a little disappointed that the sun beds on our terrace were taken mid way through our holiday. I understand it was the end of the season and things were being put into storage, but to not tell us I felt was a bit rude. I felt that it was a bit of an invasion of privacy having people in my room apart from cleaners, removing furniture without us knowing they would be doing that.
The hotel overall is really lovely and modern. It doesnt necessarily fit in with the surroundings, as the part of town that it is in is a tad run down. But there are lovely places to eat locally, the private beach is nice, and the pool area is very clean and modern.
Definitely a good place to stay if you want to use as a base to explore Montenegro and the south of Croatia
Beautiful hotel, amazing pool and sea right behind it, good breakfast and very good room service.
Only points to raise: staff too eager to carry cases into lift and then stand in the room waiting for tips (this happened to our 2 young daughters who happened to get into another lift to us- staff followed them into the room and made them both feel very uncomfortable.
No rep in the hotel to help with issues! One of our suitcases got damaged at the airport- no help in the hotel.
Transfer from the airport was 3 hours- including a ferry crossing- not mentioned in any communications beforehand!
