Overview

A gorgeous sea-view suite at a spa hotel in beautiful Igalo, set right on Montenegro's glittering coastline

The Lowdown

The spa resort of Igalo, in Montenegro, has long been favoured by those in the know seeking to benefit from the legendary curative powers of its natural minerals and mud. They’re also attracted by the balmy year-round climate, oodles of sunny days and warm, shallow waters. Palmon Bay Hotel and Spa is a shiny addition to the resort’s hotel scene. Making a bold, modern statement on the seafront, its shimmering reflective glass soaks up the mesmerising vista of Boka Kotorska Bay at every turn.
The hotel is a short stroll away from the sea, where you find an exclusive private beach where you can lounge about on a sunbed on the pebbles or terrace (accessible from May 2016). Make sure you wallow in the calm water too and on chillier days, there’s a perfectly inviting indoor swimming pool back at the hotel, alongside a spa. Elsewhere you’ll find three restaurants and two bars, one with a terrace with spectacular views across the water.

Can’t fault this hotel!

What a place. This hotel is so good. Staff are really friendly & courteous. The hotel is exceptionally clean throughout. The rooms are bright, airy & very clean. Beds very comfortable. The spa is well equipped and well worth visiting often during your stay. We’ve walked to Herceg Novi along the Coastal path. It’s a 40 minute stroll, longer if you stop for a beer or ice cream! It’s the end of May, quiet & relaxing. (Not sure how busy it will get in height of season) strongly recommend this hotel & area of Montenegro.

Relaxing, can’t recommend this more

I am currently on my 4th day here out of 7 days and it’s just perfect much more than I expected for the price.
This seems to be the beginning of the season here so it’s nice and quiet. We are here half board the breakfast is fine dinner is a buffet that’s laid out in weird way that creates queues and all the Germans go in at 7 when it opens so you definitely queue then, the foods nice for a buffet. But like all buffets they are very samey each day so we ate on the roof top restaurant last night which was superb about the same price as eating out in the uk so not expensive. There are loads of bars and restaurants that are super cheap that run on a street between the hotel and the main pool and beach so there is a lot of choice and cheap.
The roof top bar has amazing views and good cocktails around 6 euros so again similar to home, but again if you don’t want to spend that venture out it’s super cheap and no one bothers you it’s a very relaxed atmosphere and a lovely walk along the sea front.
We also ate in the nice garden at the hotel that’s also nice.
There are 3 pools one indoor in the spa which is lovely. One small one on a very posh area with day beds and the big pool on the sea front the beds are fine and nicely spaced out, you can also get beds on the ocean front or the small beach, that’s shingle so bring shoes that go in the water 😀.
We have a sea view room it’s lovely yes it’s a little snug in places especially the bathroom but if you have had room on a cruise then it’s bigger than that you just adjust. Our balcony is huge and goes round the corner so get sun all day😀.
We have been frequenting for lunch a little restaurant out to the right of the hotel called griffin and found that good value and quality.
There isn’t much shopping other than the usual tourist gift shops, some tours available from hotel or can also be found on the little street.
Overall this has been much more than we expected and great value if you just want to relax come here it’s perfect and only 3hr flight from uk.

Don't eat here

First off all the good bits.
We had a very nice suite with a large balcony overlooking the bay. The room was well appointed and clean, as was the rest of the hotel. The staff were all helpful and pleasant.
The negatives though outweigh the positives. The towels in the room were very old and tired some were holed and torn. Our bedroom door would only shut if it was slammed and each time the maids cleaned the room they did not shut the door properly meaning our room was insecure every day. We reported this each time with the assurance it would be repaired but this was never done. The bathroom room door did not shut probably either but as this is an internal door it was not really a problem. No coffee making facility in the room meant you could not enjoy a coffee while preparing for breakfast which we like to do.
However the biggest negative was the food. The buffet breakfast was just about bearable though totally disorganised. Despite the fact there were tables and chairs immediately outside the restaurant it was "not permitted " to take the coffee or breakfast outside.

The evening meals were so bad we decided to eat out for the later half of the stay even though we had already paid for evening meals. One evening there was a 20 min queue to get into the restaurant. Fortunately we weee eating out that night.

Overall this could be a really nice hotel but in reality it falls short.

Wonderful!

We recently spent a week at The Palmon Bay
The Room was perfect I upgraded to a superior sea view Room 208
It was perfect
The size The Decor The very large balcony and of course the view
The location of the hotel was ideal and so picturesque
The hotel is only around 3 years old and every thing was done to a very high standard The other nice addition was the lovely pool and quay which we all enjoyed using
I also recommend a couple of boat trips visiting Kotor parista the blue lagoon etc
And if time a quick trip to spend a day in Dubrovnik and have lunch at the top of the cable car

I also want to mention some of the staff personally too f
Marina she’s a star so helpful she gave us so much info and tips and really looked after us all the whole week
Thank you Marina x
Also Ivan the driver who took us to Dubrovnik what a gent
And finally the lady at reception who sorted everything out for us
She was so organised and helpful she had blond hair I think she was the reception manager
Unfortunately there was only one big
Minus and I didn’t want there to be one bud sadly the food let down this wonderful hotel
Our first night was like school dinners
It did improve during the week but I feel even bringing in a chef with a cooking station would be a huge improvement
I did mention this when asked for feedback
We all did say that we would definitely come back
Thank You Palmon Bay 😉

The room and hotel are beautiful and kept very clean and the free spa was superb BUT the food on the whole was substandard for a 4* hotel. Any fish was overcooked and drinks were an astronomical price, €28, for a standard bottle of wine. This meant the place was dead after dinner as everyone either went to bed or into the bars nearby.

Reception spoke mostly little English and our checkout bill was over a €100 incorrect. No maps, the excursions very expensive compared to local agent and the taxi going back to the airport was 30 minutes later than advised. Don't have a side room near the air conditioning system. Very noisy at night.
