Few places on Earth are as spectacular as Lake Garda, Italy’s largest (and arguably most beautiful) lake. Glistening at the foot of the Dolomites, this gobsmackingly gorgeous destination is surrounded by mountains, historic towns and villages, olive groves and citrus trees. So alluring is this 248-square-mile playground of outdoorsy pleasures and postcard-worthy scenery, it’s inspired artists, poets and wide-eyed romantics for centuries.
Not far from the shores of the idyllic lake sits Monastero Hotel Suite & Wellness, a modern four-star retreat tucked away in the charming medieval village of Soiano del Lago. The TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence-winning property is in every way a match for its stunning surroundings, from the outdoor pool with sun loungers to the well-stocked wine cellar to the exceptional spa to the signature restaurant serving up delicious gourmet fare. The luxurious suites tick all the boxes, too, each with a private entrance and a terrace or patio boasting lovely views.
All of the 19 luxurious abodes are individually decorated; expect a mix of contemporary décor and soft hues, plus all the mod cons you’ll need and either a terrace or outdoor patio overlooking the pool, park or green hills. Your suite comes complete with its own private entrance and a living room with sofas.
Paying homage to Italian cuisine, signature dining spot Ristorante Al Monastero serves up a rich selection of classic and contemporary dishes, using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. There’s also a well-stocked cellar for sampling fine reds, whites and rosés, as well as a lovely terrace for al-fresco dining and live music in the summer months.
It’s all about attentive staff and multi-sensory experiences at the blissful spa, a gorgeous space decked out with an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath, vitarium, water-beds, Kneipp Path, ice fountains, aroma showers, and relaxation areas. Customized massages, facials and body wraps, as well as detox and anti-cellulite treatments, are available on request.
Soiano del Lago is a small medieval village between Lake Garda and Salò and overlooks the lake. Must-dos in the area include visiting La Valtenesi for its tiny villages, Manerba del Garda for its frescoed churches, Moniga del Garda for its castle, Sirmoione for its Roman ruins and Desenzano for its archaeological museum and high-fashion boutiques. You can also stake out the superstar villas, explore the countryside on horseback, ride the Malcesine Monte Baldo Cable Car for the most mesmerizing views, and enjoy all sorts of outdoorsy activities, such as sailing, windsurfing, mountain biking and golf.
How to Get There
We went to Arzarga , to play golf , 5 mins away and decided to stay outside the course ! This place was great ! We ordered a room and it was a suite, with terrace going out to the pool ! Service was great and so was the food ! Romantic but also was fun ! We will return ! It makes a great base to see the lake and other places ! Well worth it !
My wife and I have recently returned from a week at Hotel Monastero, celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. We can not fault this hotel at all, it was the perfect location for us to relax and rest, whilst also well situated for visiting Lake Garda, Verona, Venice and the surrounding area.
The staff were wonderful and could not do enough for us. Rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated. The restaurant was delightful and served some wonderful food, at reasonable prices. The spa was a delight, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, rest rooms and treatment rooms, everything you could need to soothe away any stress.
Although, not directly on the lake (about 1 to 2 miles away), as long as you have transport, everywhere you could wish to visit is within an easy drive. For Venice we drove to Verona and then caught the train into Venice,
I would highly recommend this hotel and would love to return there some day again myself. Perfect!
A quiet place in the middle-of-serenity so there is no way of getting around without a car. The place is geared mostly for summer as it has a large pool which is surrounded with greenery. We had a spacious suite which meant that the suitcases could stay out of our bedroom leaving ample space in the quaint bedroom. The bathroom is modern but the scales didn't work. The large ante-room overlooked the pool.
At this time of the year there were very few people, in fact on one of the mornings we were alone for breakfast which was reasonable and on the night we dined there, there was just another family. It's a good thing the hotel had it's own restaurant as when we got there the first night after a whole day of sightseeing, we didn't feel like scouting for a good restaurant. The hotel one suited us fine.
We had tea bags & sugar in the room but no kettle so the first night we were given a teapot with hot water, the next day we found a small electric kettle. In other hotels, Americano coffee is usually presented in a coffee pot but here you get it in a cup which gets cold by the end of breakfast.
Bathrobes and slippers are in the room and there is also nice selection of bathroom amenities. Staff is very friendly.
