How to Get There
Gracious, comfortable and helpful. Lovely room and great staff. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we checked out, the service was flawless. We would highly recommend the Hotel Canal Grande to Venice veterans and first-timers.
We stayed at the Hotel Canal Grande for 3 nights and selected the hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews and also its proximity to the train station; it proved an excellent choice. We arrived by train into Venice, as we’d completed a cycle tour of the Dolomites and being able to get to the hotel easily was a factor in our selection. It was easy to navigate to and only involved crossing a couple of bridges. Our departure from Venice was by plane, so being easily able to get to Marco Polo airport during the early morning was also important.
The hotel is a good quality 4 star hotel and in general terms, everything is a little pricier in Venice, so readers might need to reset their expectations about costs - in terms of food, accommodation, tours and shopping. We chose to pay a little more and have slightly bigger rooms overlooking the canal and I think this was a good choice. We ended up in the attic room called ‘Casanova’ which had a lovely little nook with chairs and enabled us to make a cup of tea or coffee when we needed. Our friends were in the ‘Doge’ room just below us and both rooms had views overlooking the canal. I liked how they cleverly used the space - for example a small fridge was hidden from view, but meant that all the required facilities were in place. The bathroom had a lovely fit out and while it was small, everything that we needed was there and the heated towel rail operated in summer (which is not always the case) and allowed us to dry our washing. Importantly, the rooms were air conditioned, which was a must, given the heat in Venice at the time of our visit. WiFi is free and operates throughout the premises.
Breakfast is served downstairs and is plentiful. There is a lovely selection of meats, breads, cheese, coffee and tea, yoghurt and also lovely pastries. It was lovely. There is always water to refresh you when you come back from visiting and snacks like nuts, chips and pretzels. A welcome drink is provided and other drinks are served and can be charged to your account.
I do have to mention that the staff are all extremely friendly and this of course is always the greatest asset for any organisation. But in particular, I have to highlight that Anka (apologies if this is not the correct spelling) was one of the friendliest front of house staff that I have met in any of my travels! She was simply outstanding! We encountered her every day during our stay and even after she’d done a double shift and had worked through the night, she had an uncanny ability to remember small details about us, our plans that we’d spoken about and arrangements that we had made. She always had a smile on her face, was willing to impart her local knowledge and share titbits of her life. She greeted customers who were coming and going and always with humour and genuineness. Our experience with Anka made our stat at the Hotel Canal Grande an exceptional one. We will be back!
Beautiful hotel and very friendly personnel, placed in a very practical part of the city. We recommend it with joy!
Especially at the reception they helped us with every type of questions and needs, told us exactly where to get to, when to do what etc.
The location of this hotel is fantastic. Right on the Grand Canal, close to everything. The hotel itself is beautiful. The best feature of this hotel has to be their staff. They were friendly, organised our tours, restaurants, water taxis and most of all made us feel at home. We loved everything about the experience. Would fully recommend this Hotel !
We have recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. The location is beautiful along the Grand Canal, our room was gorgeous and the staff were the friendliest that I have ever met! They could not to enough for us! The food at breakfast was great with choice and quality. If I’m in Venice again, I will stay here, I can’t recommend it highly enough!
