How to Get There
We loved our stay at Fonte De Medici, which is settled at the top of a a hill in the heart of Chianti. Rooms have a rustic traditional decor, very clean. Atmosphere is nice with an excellent level of hospitality from all the staff. A must try is the hotel's restaurant, the Trattoria, which offers traditional local cuisine at very reasonable prices. Don't miss the sunshine sipping a glass of Chianti!
I had an absolutly amazing stay!!! I give them a 10!!!,Gorgeous setting, beautiful and well kept grounds, fantastic service,I can't say enough great things about this place,I will go back in the future.
This was our home for 5 nights, including a most excellent set of cooking classes operated by International Kitchen (program called "Antinori's Noble Tuscany"). An outstanding setting in midst of Antinori vineyards. Very helpful and friendly staff in both hotel and dining room. A couple dinners at hotel's dining room - great service and food!
Be advised that if you wish to go anywhere at all, it requires a car. Of course, not having a car meant that our down time was happily occupied walking in vineyards and thoroughly enjoying this outdoor setting. Several short journeys were part of our wine and food adventure package, so location is close enough to several Tuscan towns, and of course, wineries. Wonderful long and short views from hotel property.
My only suggestion is to decide if this remote setting is what you want - if it is, then this is a great place. It's not so far back to Florence, but if you want the city, better to stay there. We very much enjoyed our time at Fonte de Medici, and would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends.
The spot is beautiful with city of neatly tended vineyards olive trees, a pool, and rustic surroundings. The trattoria has a nice menu. We are late risers though so miss out on the best of the breakfast buffet which is not replenished. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Looking forward to a cooking class.
Fonte de Medici is an old Italian farmhouse complex owned by the Antinori family. There are a series of structures on the grounds. The main office, a restaurant, a work out building, a cooking school and the rooms. Our room was on second floor. I am not sure of how old the building was, but it clearly was more than one century old. The rooms are suites complete with full kitchens and a table. The bedroom and the bath are both separate. The room can only be described as "tuscan". It looked like every picture of tuscany that you have ever seen. Very clean, but with an old feel. I was waiting for Hansel and Gretel to arrive any minute. For me, this room was mostly outstanding. I have two negatives. First, there is no elevator, and no one to help with luggage. So if you don't think you can take your luggage up a flight of stairs, this is not the place for you. The second negative for me, was the bathroom. It was clean and in most ways fine, but our room did not have a shower. It had an old fashion tub (which I personally like), but only a hand wand. No shower head coming out of the wall. Normally this would have been fine, but there also was no shower curtain. There was no way to use the wand to shower yourself without a curtain and not have the entire bathroom get soaked. So we kept all of our bathroom items out of the bathroom. This would not deter me from staying here again in the future, but I would ask for a room with a shower as I think some of them do have them. It did seem odd that they would not mount a shower curtain.
One major plus is that if you drive, there is ample parking on the premises. I recommend driving there. You can explore some of the small towns like Grieve in Chianti and Passignano. Driving is easy and there are not a lot of cars on the road.
Also, I highly recommend signing up for the cooking school. You make a full dinner and then eat it at Osteria di Passignano.
