An intimate, adults-only escape set high on the cliffs above the island’s caldera, the Mystique Santorini affords jaw-on-the-floor views of the Aegean Sea. Minimalist whitewashed interiors feature organic lines, curved walls, rounded ottomans and driftwood details. The 22 suites start at a roomy 430 square feet and have private balconies with sunbeds and unrivaled panoramic sea vistas. Lounge by the infinity swimming pool with a good book during the day or nurse a cocktail after sunset, when the poolside tables transform into the romantic restaurant Charisma. Don’t want to dine alfresco? The hotel’s charming 150-year-old Secret Wine Cave makes for an equally amorous meal. And when you want to burn some calories, Mystique Santorini has mountain bikes available (you’ll need them to tackle the island’s notoriously steep hills).
In the Area
Oia is all about getting the most out of the seaside setting, so head to black sand Perivolos Beach, where the hotel has private facilities for guests, then admire the red volcanic rock of Amoudi Bay while watching daredevils dive off the cliffs and feasting on just-caught seafood at one of the tavernas, like the family-run Sunset. Another famous sunset perspective to be had is on the walls of the Kastro (Santorini’s old castle), or by taking a horseback expedition along the sand. Drop by the wonderful Atlantis Books to browse, chat with locals and maybe catch an open-air film screening at the store’s annual Caldera Arts & Literature festival.
How to Get There
Surely a destination Hotel. We never heard no for an answer, even late at night. Effie and all the other Hotel staff were always ready to help guests in various needs. The hotel pool, restaurants, rooms and the views are incredible. Type of Hotel you want to stay all day long instead of sightseeing...
This hotel was beautiful. The staff is excellent. The view is phenomenal. The room that we had was wonderful. There was a winding staircase to a loft and there was a patio with chaise lounges adjoining it. We also had a small patio off our room with a table and a couple of chairs. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and they had great toiletries. There was a treat left in the room daily from the kitchen. There is also turndown service and they leave chocolate also.
I highly recommend staying in Oia. Beautiful town with terrific vistas and restaurants. Mystique is a beautiful resort with a lot to offer. The staff is incredible and will accommodate your needs from the guest rooms to transportation. The main restaurant was very good for breakfast and other meals during the course of your stay. We did not try the other restaurant on the grounds. The pool was small but a great way to cool off after a long day. The resort is limited on space because of being on the side of a hill. Be forewarned that if you cannot tolerate climbing steps than try somewhere else. We counted 186 steps from street level to our room. These were all cobblestone walkways until you got closer. I forgot my wife’s cane back home but the staff picked up one at a local pharmacy for her to use, thank you so much. The rooms were well laid out and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom tub and showers were smooth concrete and took a while to get used to. If you are a bath person the tub was way to big to provide enough hot water to lay in. The step into and out of the tub/shower was quite challenging. This resort being part of Starwood’s made us pick this locale. The Oia Sunset Cruise office is directly across the street. Enjoy your stay because it is a very unique resort.
Like many of the hotels in Oia area of Santorini, Mystique is built into the cliff. There is a "public road" that circumnavigates the property made up of about 12,432 sough cobblestone-esque steps that will give you a work out - but it's worth it.
The rooms are all very individual and made into the cliffs. The pool, like most in the area, are small but quaint. Service at the hotel was excellent and the staff attentive and courteous at all times. It's easy to get lost on the property and they're always willing to actually take you to your destination rather than just telling you how to get there.
My girlfriend and I had an Allure suite with an amazing view every morning out our bedroom window. The bathroom had it's own jacuzzi which was wonderful but you had to keep the bathroom window cracked else the room became like a sauna - but I'm not complaining.
We had lunch almost daily at the hotel's pool restaurant which was always excellent. We had dinner 2 nights at Asea and loved it. Our final night was my birthday so we had a private dinner with butler service. Again, it was pricey but our waitress Konstandina was beyond amazingly wonderful and so attentive.
The only thing of which I can be critical is that the hotel is very tough to navigate. We got lost countless times going to the restaurants or the spa. My suggestion would be to have a few small directional signs around the hotel but beyond that little hiccup I'd say there's nothing that needs change.
One thing you need to know about this property is that there is a steep set of stairs and the hotel is located at mid slope. This may be challenging for people who are elderly or if you are traveling with very young children.
Once you arrive at the hotel you are greeted with spectacular views and a staff who are eager to please. The breakfast was included in the price of our room and it is served at either your choice of the two restaurants that serve it. You will not be disappointed with an extensive á la carte menu. There is nothing better than starting off your day other than the views.
The rooms are all different as they are built into caves. We had two rooms and they were both very spacious.
A short walk from the Hotel is the shopping area of Oia a must see during the day but especially at night with extensive choices of restaurants and shops.
Staying at Mystique is a unique experience especially if you just want to take it all in and stop to appreciate life. Ideal for a romantic get away.
