Dramatic cliff top adults-only hideout in Santorini with a 150-year-old wine cave and infinity pool

The Lowdown

An intimate, adults-only escape set high on the cliffs above the island’s caldera, the Mystique Santorini affords jaw-on-the-floor views of the Aegean Sea. Minimalist whitewashed interiors feature organic lines, curved walls, rounded ottomans and driftwood details. The 22 suites start at a roomy 430 square feet and have private balconies with sunbeds and unrivaled panoramic sea vistas. Lounge by the infinity swimming pool with a good book during the day or nurse a cocktail after sunset, when the poolside tables transform into the romantic restaurant Charisma. Don’t want to dine alfresco? The hotel’s charming 150-year-old Secret Wine Cave makes for an equally amorous meal. And when you want to burn some calories, Mystique Santorini has mountain bikes available (you’ll need them to tackle the island’s notoriously steep hills).

In the Area

Oia is all about getting the most out of the seaside setting, so head to black sand Perivolos Beach, where the hotel has private facilities for guests, then admire the red volcanic rock of Amoudi Bay while watching daredevils dive off the cliffs and feasting on just-caught seafood at one of the tavernas, like the family-run Sunset. Another famous sunset perspective to be had is on the walls of the Kastro (Santorini’s old castle), or by taking a horseback expedition along the sand. Drop by the wonderful Atlantis Books to browse, chat with locals and maybe catch an open-air film screening at the store’s annual Caldera Arts & Literature festival.

Unparalleled service, exceptional location - 6 Stars!

Deciding where to stay in Oia is difficult as there are many wonderful properties available. Our travel agent chose Mystique and, having just returned home, I wanted to share my thoughts as to why I believe Mystique deserves top marks and the highest accolades.
First, the service at this hotel is unparalleled; every member of the staff, beginning with Effie - the hotel's engaging, charming, and knowledgeable Manager - to all the front desk staff (Daphnea, Maxim, Rafil, Panagiotis, Ioa and others I know I forgot) to Alexandra and all the staff at Charisma, one of Mystique's 2 restaurants, including Alexandra - the warm, friendly and smiling Manager and all her staff (Demetra, Alexander, the two lovely young women who brought us breakfasts on our terrace each morning and everyone else) to the amazing porters who lug the heaviest bags up and down all day long and never, ever stop smiling - there was nothing they wouldn't do to make sure your stay is nothing short of spectacular. Truly this staff is one of the best that I have ever encountered in all my hotel stays throughout the world.

Secondly the accommodations: our room - a Wet Allure Suite - was perfect offering just the right amount of space, a wonderful rainfall shower, a small but much appreciated jacuzzi and a spacious terrace. Housekeeping kept the room spotless and the hot tub was cleaned and serviced daily.

Third, the food at both restaurants was phenomenal. For lunch you have the option of 2 menus, a lovely wine list and nice selection of beers. The sushi restaurant, Asean, was equally wonderful. In both locations everything was freshly prepared, innovatively presented and tremendously flavorful.

Fourth, location: Mystique is located on the edge of Oia, so the tourist hordes are not traipsing by your room at all hours. As the hotel is located closer to the water it offers a higher level of privacy and quiet others may not. At the same time all that Oia has to offer is just a short walk away. The best of both worlds.

While Mystique may seem costlier that other places let me assure you, without any hesitation or doubt, that - when you add up the exceptional level of service, the stunning accommodations, the phenomenal food and the superlative location - the hotel offers tremendous value for the money.

My husband and I cannot thank Effie and the entire staff of Mystique enough for the unforgettable 4 days we spent with them. Leaving was difficult and, as we walked up the steps after having said our goodbyes, we assured ourselves we will be back again. Mystique deserves the highest accolades and is highly, highly recommended.

Great hotel and location

We loved our stay at the Mystique! Great location, it’s a minute or two to the down town of Oia, which Was great (I was thinking if you stayed in the main down town tourists might be walking by your hotel frequently). The staff was fabulous and provided great recommendations. The breakfasts were good, we didn’t have lunch or dinner there, so I can’t comment on that. The cave rooms were fun, we had a jacuzzi in our bathroom with a view of the caldera. Each day we would have treats left in our room and water. I would recommend leaving the window open in the bathroom cracked a bit to avoid too much condensation to build up. I enjoyed staying in Oia and the hike from Fira to Oia, which is a must.

Oia is the best location in Santorini

First of all, the staff is amazing! They go above and beyond to ensure your stay is perfect. Panagiotis in the front office was very helpful and I want to mention Yannis the valet for his tirelessness when carrying the heaviest baggage to and from your suite and parking your car. I dreaded leaving the property because of the steep cobblestone stairs and he traversed them without hesitation. Alexandra in the restaurant was extremely accommodating and she never forgot a face. We were upgraded to a room with a jacuzzi and all rooms have amazing views of the Caldera. The hotel is in walking distance to shops and restaurants but you can always eat in the hotel for a good meal. The Grouper was expertly prepared and Alexander in the Asea restaurant is the best. The hotel even has a wine cave. The only gripe I have is the jacuzzi could have been hotter. If you decide to take the walk to Fira just know it is a hiking path that will take at least two hours one way. Instead of a wine tour we rented a car and drove to the wineries ourselves. Santos was our favorite. I'd recommend not visiting the island before the end of May as the weather may not be ideal earlier in the month. The fastest ferry ride from Athens is five hours long so we flew instead.

Absolutely beautiful hotel

This is an absolutely beautiful hotel. The check in staff was helpful and amazing. We were give a complimentary upgrade with to a room with hot tub and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The alacarte breakfast was amazing. The caldera view from the room is beautiful however there isn’t any direct view of the sunset.

awesome views

Just a spectacular hotel. The service could not have been better. We booked 5 nights with Bonvoy points. Our status is now Platinum; however, when we booked, we were gold. We had to get our status updated to have breakfast included; although, not sure if we had an upgraded room. Breakfast was wonderful and view was just as good. Great menu and they would really make what ever you wanted. And, they had great gluten-free options. We were in room #3 which we really liked because of the location. No outdoor hot tub but little more private and near the registration office and easy access to breakfast. We loved our room. Extremely comfortable bed and nice couch. Nice TV; although we did not watch too often. Be advised that there are numerous stairs up and down to reach anywhere in the hotel. The registration is down several levels from the street. And, the hotel is not allowed to put any identification at the street level. We drove to the hotel with GPS. Luckily, found a parking place not too far from the location indicated by GPS. A local merchant directed us to the steps leading down to the hotel. They have a great staff that will take care of your luggage--a must. If you rent a car, parking can be an issue; although, we always found somewhere to park and walked back to the hotel. It was nice to have the car to be able to reach some of the important sites on the island; however, driving is tricky. I rarely got out of 2nd or 3rd gear. Many good restaurants in easy walking distance. We would not recommend dinner at the hotel. We thought the menu was too limited and too expensive.Over all, great hotel, great location and we would definitely stay here again.
