How to Get There
Every thing about this hotel for us was outstanding, from the time we walked into the reception on arrival to the time we left. The staff all of them are so friendly and happy, nothing was to much for them, always smiling and singing.
The room we were in was brilliant, every one goes on about a sea view, we had a garden view and what a fantastic place to be in, the wall waterfall was just fab, fab and more fab. Every where was clean and well kept.
The restaurant was mind blowing, food first class.
Would highly recommend this hotel.
My husband and I stayed at the Rinela for one week at the end of October. As a couple we enjoyed our stay but found the hotel was very family orientated, so not suitable for those wanting quiet and relaxation.
The hotel is located just outside of Heraklion, but seems to be mainly residential area and quite run down, it is around a 45-minute walk to the nearest tourist area where there is a few shops and restaurants. On the way you will find an abandoned American army base and a derelict public swimming pool, which reflects the area it is in. The hotel is under a flight path as it is very close to the airport, consequently there is a lot of noise from planes passing, we found this to be quite annoying at night so I would recommend earplugs.
The renovations that have taken place at the hotel are lovely, very modern pool areas, new furniture on the beach, beautiful outdoor bar areas, we particularly enjoyed the new taverna on the beach, which we had access to for breakfast as we were in a ‘sea-front’ room.
Even though our room was an ‘upgrade’, it was the worst part of our experience. Although it had a sea view, you couldn’t see it unless you sat outside, as the front of the room was the door and a small window. The room was very dark and dated, and there were a lot of insects getting into the room from the bathroom ‘window’ which is basically a window into a hole in the ground, which went up to a vent on the grass above. I had to ask for the room to be sprayed twice but only made a difference for a day or so.
We ate at the buffet restaurant twice, but found the experience hectic and stressful. It was really hot and busy; the food was average and catered for a mass market, nothing special. When we finally got drinks, we had warm white wine served in a tumbler. The second time I asked for a coke and it took around 20 minutes for it to make an appearance as they got the order wrong. I had finished my meal before I got a drink.
The a’la carte restaurants can be booked from 8am for the day after and is worth doing as they are a much more enjoyable dining experience. The taverna had a nice choice of meals and was nicely presented, however it is quite open to the elements, which in the cooler months makes the restaurant cold and the food went cold quick as a consequence. As for the Asian restaurant, although part of the main buffet restaurant was a much nicer experience, not too hot, not hectic and the food was gorgeous! Don’t be shy to ask for a few dishes to try them out.
The beach was nice and usually had quite calm sea, perfect for paddling or swimming. There was an adult only section on the beach but unfortunately it wasn’t supervised so had families with kids using it. Beach towels are available to rent at a €20 per towel fee, but they are quite small so I would advise to take your own.
Although the hotel wasn’t to our taste, I would recommend it to families looking for a good hotel with great facilities at a competitive price. As a couple we would not return to this hotel and found the sister hotel 30 minutes away more suitable.
This may not quite be a luxury hotel but I still give it five stars for the following reasons:
- excellent food in the main restaurant
- snacks, ice cream and deserts available all the time
- good service
- even though we were not granted late checkout we could use the all inclusive facilities until our departure
- great shallow and sandy beach with excellent sunbeds
- spotless rooms, our with great seaview
- one of the most comfortable bed we've had in a hotel
- 20 mins to airport or city with inexpensive bus
Someone could find the airplanes flying to Heraklion airport a slight nuisance.
My wife and I recently returned from a fantastic holiday at the Rinela Beach Resort again this year. The beach is Blue flag, with comfy sun beds and bean bags, there are rustic settees and arm chairs well placed with shading by the beach bar. The new theatre bar in the theatre, and the terrace leading from the hotel reception are both wonderful. The Taverna is now serving an a la cart menu, and has retained lay back atmosphere. The main restaurant has a good variety of food, with theme nights. The pasta is better than ever.
There are many snack bars , which include creten pies, pizzas, cakes, hot dogs etc. The staff are so friendly and helpful every where you go, from the Management team, reception, customer relations manager Juliet, bar staff, waiters, waitresses, and the cleaner staff.
The rooms spotless and gardens are well tended. The Chinese restaurant is a must, the food and staff are excellent. The hotel is like a big family, all there to make your holiday special. The hotel is located on the edge of the village, with the first shops, tavernas, bus stops outside the main gate.
All being well we shall return again in 2019.
We stayed during the last week of the season and were thoroughly spoilt from the time we entered the hotel. We booked a family room with pool, the room was clean and of a good size and standard. Beds were very comfortable. The mini bar was refilled every 2 days. The beach is lovely and the entertainment team worked hard. A big bonus were the large sunbeds which we shared as a family and also the beanbag type beds. It is impossible to go hungry, the choice of food and drink is fantastic, from pizza on the beach to late night waffles and pancakes.
Tip: if you arrive late head down towards the pool - you can get panini, waffles / pancakes until 1am.
A brilliant holiday, we can't wait to return.
