How to Get There
All the things were more than I expected including food, service and cleaness, especially drink service at the beach. It was a good place for snorkeling with no fear of jellyfish and other water sports like parachute and jetski. A day trip to Satorini with a good price is highly recommendable. I strongly recommend you to stay at Mitsis. never regret !
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Laguna Hotel between 10th July and the 17th July in room 420.
We booked everything through Expedia as this was the best deal and flew with Thomas Cook (never again)!
The hotel was lovely and we really can not fault our stay and we are very sad to be leaving. The last 3 years we have stayed at Sandals and except for 4 or 5 things we really couldn't see a difference.
Room: As I mentioned we stayed in room 420 and the room was perfect! Over looking the main pool with sea view it was lovely to relax with a wine / beer in the evening. Room was very spacious and cleaned every day.
We chose to book into the theme restaurants every night but one. It's very simple to book, we would book online at midnight and would never have a problem getting a table. I suggest booking at 9pm its lot quieter and you can relax a little more.
Main restaurant, has a great selection of local food and the salads are amazing. They had a great selection of desserts.
A la Carte / brunch: we didn't have breakfast any where else. Brunch starts at 9 till 12 and they had a lovely selection pastries and coffee. They do a full English (greek style) which is lovely and recommended trying here for breakfast.
Brilliant.. don't bother with the main restaurant!
As mentioned you need to book but it is well worth it. We visited the Italian 3 times and each the experience was wonderful. The pizzas are brilliant and the starters are excellent with a great choice of wine. The seafood risotto is certainly worth trying.
We also attended the mexican and cretan restaurant and both were just as good.
Chrissa in the italian makes the experience in the Italian perfect, we can't recommend her highly enough and Laguna have a real star in her.
Day bar: this tends to be where they have the adult entertainment in the evening. We would come here for a cocktail or 3 before heading to the room to get ready for the evening. They have a great selection of cocktails and alcoholic drinks. Remember though its not premium drinks but the G&T is still very nice as is the local beer.
Night bar: Our favourite bar, we would come here before and after dinner. Its lovely to sit with a cocktail / beer whilst watching the sun come down.
Champagne bar: closed shoes for men are required here - they also serve sushi early evening which my girlfriend really enjoyed. Nice but not as nice as the night bar in my opinion.
Pool: Main pool, can get very busy but we never had any trouble getting a sunbed and the waiters regularly come around for drinks. Because the main pool is fairly shallow you get a lot of kids around this pool. You are close to the pool bar which also serves crepes and icecream.
2nd pool (over from the slides): We preferred this pool so much more, its alot quieter and it has music playing throughout the day to give it a bit of atmosphere. You are also close to the theater bar which serves all drinks and hot dogs / toastie and icecream. This pool is a little deeper, but does attract less children so you can relax a little more.
Yes the pools are salt water. It took a little getting used to but we preferred it in the end. Your skin and hair feel so much better with the salt water.
Beach: is at the back of the complex and very short walk from all rooms - it is very pebbly like most of crete but still lovely to go for a swim or paddle.
Trips: We enquired with the hotel about trips to Chania and other places and the prices were very high. We searched online and found Hays Tours, they charged €25 each for a day trip to Chania / and the hotel priced it at €59 each. So I would certainly do some research before booking anything through the hotel.
We got a taxi into the local town of Hersonisos which is a 10 minute drive away and €8 euros in a taxi. The harbour is lovely but don't expect a world class harbour but it's still nice to walk around with lots of bars / restaurants. We had lovely food at Med Cafe which we found on here, you are right on the waters edge and the food is lovely.
We had an amazing time and we would certainly stay at Laguna again. The staff are excellent and work their socks off to help you. Thank you for making it an amazing holiday!
We are currently here and all I can say is, wow what an amazing hotel. I’ve visited many hotels, as I work in the Travel industry and this is by far one of the best I have stayed in. The staff are all helpful and friendly. The choice of places to eat is great. We have a balcony Jacuzzi room (520) and I would definitely recommend the upgrade.
Perfect holiday. Thank you.
