How to Get There
Giving 5 stars to a hotel isn't something I normally do. It assumes perfection and no room for improvement. Celestia Grand (CG) would actually get a 4.8 from me; very close to perfect, and close enough to a 5 because the suites are so super nice, and managed so well - it's easy to let a few small issues go by the wayside.
As others have said, Niko (concierge extraordinaire) is a gem. Niko comes with the hotel at this point and before he tires out, you should book now. Not only does he know the island and likely anyone worth knowing on it - he's easy to get along with, truly concerned about you having a great stay, and he works his butt off non-stop to make it happen. Whether it is plans for a single dinner or in our case, setting up our entire 5-day itinerary -- no other hotel I know provides an executive assistant like this. They better be paying him a lot.
Here's what we liked about the hotel itself, plus just a few shortcomings (though not a lot as I mentioned above), and hopefully this will help as you pore over the myriad of Caldera-facing lodgings that I too looked at before booking Celestia Grand.
- The villa (we stayed in Aphrodite) is BIG
Our family of 4 with two teens (15 and 13) had more than enough room. It was more Airbnb than hotel room. We had a small kitchenette, a living room area with sofa, chairs, TV, and deck - and that was upstairs. Downstairs were 2 bedrooms, one with queen bed and the other 2 singles put together. Two big bathrooms, 1 with jacuzzi tub, the other with indoor/outdoor hot tub, which led to a huge deck with pool, areas to lounge (8-10 people comfortably) and eat, with views of the Caldera (main volcano/sea view). Clean, comfortable, well appointed.
- The view is fantastic
The debate might be whether to watch the sunset in Oia or other parts of the Caldera but we found where CG is, to be perfect. Could stare at the sea forever, with nothing in our way. (Even if CG isn't for you, pay to stay with a Caldera view.)
- The pool was BIG
Like 'big' you'd have in your backyard 'big.' When you go to Thira and Oia and look at the pools others either share, or have with their rooms, you will giggle. The pool we had was the size of many hotels' main pools.
- The beds were super comfortable
- The breakfast was super tasty
Though too much for us. Eggs and yogurt and fruit and coffee and croissants and dessert treat.
- The distance from Fira is pretty right on, but not in Fira exactly...
You might be debating what town to stay in, I know we did for weeks. We finally landed on Fira, since although we knew it was more rockin' at night, we were cool with that because we're from a big city, plus Fira is way more central than the cozier Oia, for example. Tripadvisor calls Celestia Grand a "Hotel in Fira" but it's not. It's close, and (about 1.7km away) but it's not IN town. At first this bugged me. Then I loved it. The free shuttle every 2 hours or so made it easy to get there, and not get stuck there with difficult-to-get taxis and buses.
- The price...
This may be the most expensive hotel in Santorini or right up there, and if that's out of your price range, then you shouldn't be reading this far. My wife and I are ok with paying. We work hard so we can go on occasional vacations that we think are worth it. But the other reality is that when I pay a lot for a lodging, my expectations skyrocket. And little things like scratched paint and expensive mini bars seem out of place and gnaw at me. Thus the 4.8.
Still, Celestia Grand is indeed grand. Gorgeous in, and out. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
We stayed here for 4 nights. These houses are awesome and had a spectacular view from the top of the Caldera Privacy is great. But what it makes really special is the host Niko, he welcomes you and give you a short interesting and funny overview of Santorini and things that you can do when you stay at Santorini. His Restaurant Tips are great and he will do all you reservations and other things during your stay. Really Niko and his team makes they unforgettable...Thank so so much Niko.
We are a family of 6 2 adults, 4 teens. Stayed in Villa 6. This place is so beautiful and absolutely what you see in the photos. The villas are so Santorini :) The caldera view is stunning. The private pools are large, certainly big enough for our family to play Marco Polo. Well worth the money. Niko is a gem, always ready, always full of information, suggestions, assistance, nothing too much trouble. We arrived at midnight and Niko was pleasant and took his time to ensure we knew our way around and our bags were delivered and we were settled. He even organised food to be in the villa for our very late arrival. Plenty of room and the kids loved it! Highly recommended!
From the moment we stepped off of the provided charter bus, my family and I were showered with attention. Niko, the man attending to our every needs, made it clear that he would be here for anything. Celestia Grand truly embodied perfection and was everything necessary plus MORE. The breakfast every morning was phenomenal and catered to specific dietary needs, the recommendations of what to do on the island were outstanding and everything was booked for us by Niko. If you are looking for a relaxing stay, with small bursts of travel that is planned by someone else, come here! Not to mention the BEAUTY that is the entire hotel and island of Santorini. Will definitely recommend this place to ALL 10/10!
As part of a 20th anniversary stay my wife and i spent 5 nights at Celestia. The facilities were simply extraordinary, with extreme privacy and a view the can never be matched. Niko was a perfect host for our adventure providing anything we needed to make our trip first class. The fact this series of villas is tied to the Volcano View hotel also enhanced the stay - we got the privacy and personal service of the villas with the restaurant/bar (as needed) of the Volcano View hotel and especially had fun at Greek Night (OPA!). When we return to Santorini, it will be to Niko and the Celestia. It was a life time trip. Thank you Celestia!
