How to Get There
We stayed here for three nights and it was beyond our expectations. Prior to our trip the hotel was in contact with my husband a number of times to ensure everything we needed was in order, including our transfer to and from the port.
When we arrived Eddie helped us with our bags, brought us a drink and showed us to our room. Mary, in the office, went through our trip with us to ensure we made the most of our time and that everything ran smoothly. She was incredibly helpful booking things in and offering suggestions.
The accomodation was comfortable and had a fantastic view! The staff brought us breakfast each morning which was also very nice.
The pool had a spectacular view, a bar and was very nice to relax next to at the end of the day. It had the perfect sunset view and so did the restaurant area outside the reception.
Most welcoming staff were there to greet us. Spotless suite with lovely balcony offering great views. Complimentary bottle of bubble to help celebrate our birthdays. Would highly recommend for couples. Good central location but off the main walkway for better privacy. Lovely pool settling. Great!
We were so impressed with the hotel, the staff, the food and the view was stunning. Mary was so helpful and fun! She helped plan a few excursions and made sure we had everything we needed. Eddie was wonderful, too! It was one of our favorite stops. I highly recommend it!
I first stayed at Afroessa two years ago with a friend. This time I wanted to bring my partner and show him how fantastic this place is. Afroessa holds a piece of my heart, I absolutely love it here. The view and sunset is breathtaking, the staff will treat you like family and Mary, the receptionist, is AMAZING. Mary knows everything there is to know about Santorini and will do everything to make sure your stay is magical and relaxing. The rooms are comfortable, clean and reasonably quiet. The food is amazing and will be served to your room, by the pool or at the restaurant. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the local bus stop, which is very cheap and easy to use. This is a wonderful place and you won't regret staying here.
Where to begin? My husband and I stayed here during our time in Santorini and it was everything we had imagined and more. I had done extensive research on places to stay in Santorini before booking and when I came across the Afroessa Hotel, it seemed like it would be exactly what we were looking for- an authentic and quiet accommodation that was close to all of the action. Communication with Georga Ioanna (the owner) leading up to our arrival was seamless as she was extremely responsive when changes to our itinerary were needed. I requested a room off the main foot path and she made sure we had the best room and view in the hotel ( I even saw she highlighted and circled my request on our paperwork as we were checking in). We were booked in Superior Suite #12 which is one of the newest rooms at the hotel and it was absolutely spectacular. It was situated on the lowest floor of the hotel (beware if you aren't interested in doing many steps...this was WAY down from the main path) just below the pool and the view of the Caldera and surrounding parts of the island were absolutely breathtaking. Each morning we would wake up and breakfast would be delivered to our balcony for us to enjoy while taking in the sites- it's something we will remember forever.
Staff: Since it is a small family run hotel, the staff became very familiar in the first few days of our stay. You can tell how hard each of them works in keeping the hotel running smoothly. There are two house keepers who clean the rooms each day (we did not get their names) and they do an impeccable job. It is not like at other places where they change your towels and make your bed- these two woman did top to bottom cleanings each day and it did not go unnoticed.
Eddie is another member of the staff who we had a great time getting to know. He seemed to be a jack of all trades around the hotel, and he also handled carrying our EXTREMELY heavy luggage up and down the many stairs (sorry Eddie!). Each day we would go to the pool bar in the afternoon and he would make us a Freddo Cappuccino and we would have great conversation- we looked forward to that part of the day!
Mary who works at the front desk was very pleasant to deal with as she handled all of our restaurant reservations and was very helpful with recommendations for activities and points of interest.
Location: The hotel is approximately 30 minutes walking distance from Fira in a quiet part of Imerovigli and that was exactly what we wanted. After spending some time in Fira (which is not to be missed!) we quickly realized we were happy to be a distance away from the hustle and bustle. It was a breath of fresh air when we would get back to the Afroessa where we could really enjoy the peacefulness that the island has to offer. That being said, the walk to and from Fira is something to be remembered as each time we did it, we found ourselves weaving in and out of new pathways and discovering new shops and restaurants which made it all the more adventurous.
Restaurants: We had so many memorable meals while in Santorini but the two that stick out the most were at Anogi and Metaxy Mas.
All in all, the Afroessa Hotel is the epitome of what you would expect from your stay in Santorini. A small authentic family run hotel in the heart of Santorini that provided us such a relaxing and memorable time. We truly miss it already and it's only been 2 days! Thank you to everyone at the Afroessa who helped make our stay perfect.
