How to Get There
My husband and I took a very spontaneous weekend trip to Dresden with our pups and booked a room the evening before we left. Upon arrival, we were greeted and given a free upgrade to a larger room, which was a real treat. We stayed in room 204 which was large and had a bath and a half and an alcove that had a view of the courtyard and restaurant. The room had everything we needed for our stay (with the exception of an iron) and was very comfortable. We also loved the big bathroom and the toiletries. Not two minutes into our stay, the gentleman arrived with two dog beds and treats for our pups which made them very happy! The breakfast buffet each morning provided everything needed for a great start to your day to include eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, meats and cheeses, cereals, muesli, fruit, freshly made waffles, pastries, breads, rolls, jellies, jams, etc. We also ordered room service for dinner and that was of very high quality and arrived within the quoted 25 minute time frame. The crème brulee was absolutely 5 star! The hotel is very well situated directly across from the Zwinger Palace and within easy walking distance from every place you want to visit in Dresden. I will comment that if you have a mini-bar in your room, note the prices before you indulge. We had two in our room and didn't notice prices until afterward and, well, it was worth it for the ease! I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay at another Kempinski hotel in a heartbeat!
We stayed two nights. The hotel right in the center of Dresden. All the main touristic places are in a walk distance. Reception and all the staff is perfect. The rooms are big and very clean as the rest of the hotel ground. Breakfast was good. They have a nice restaurant also. Definitely recommend to people going to stay in Dresden.
Having stayed in a Kempinski hotel before, we were looking forward to a luxurious visit. The look of the hotel and location were superb and the ability to simply stroll across the road to the Zwinger is fantastic.
However, I was surprised to find no hair conditioner supplied in the bathroom and amazed to be charged a Euro a coffee pod in the bedroom. We’ve never stayed in a hotel of any class before which charged for coffee in the room. If the Kempinski chain can’t afford to supply this fairly basic commodity, they are doing something very wrong. Incidentally, we went to the Nespresso shop ourselves to buy a sleeve of pods and were given them free. Cheers!
The staff are not very friendly and quite slow in the bar. We had our room turned down for the night on one occasion at around 6pm - despite the fact that I was wrapped in a towel and my husband was hiding in the bathroom!
Finally, after we left we discovered that we had been charged twice for our accommodation despite having pointed out on arrival that we had pre-paid.
We loved Dresden, we loved the location but we are no longer so impressed by the Kempinski brand.
we had a room facing the Dresden Opera House, the bed was comfortable and the furnishings elegant even though the curtains were a bit threadbare. the air-con was nice and quiet and the bathtub huge. most of the staff were really helpful and polite indeed. The hotel bar was lovely furnished and the drinks were nice but they had football playing in the background so loudly on both nights that it was hard to relax if one is not a football fan. Besides, the Barkeeper took offence when we were listening to a friends voice message while having some cocktails. his comment was "stop that", in German "bitte das nicht" in a rude voice. we found this impolite and will not go to the bar again.
Location was perfect as we came here for opera, which was a stone throw away. The hotel itself was well kept, rooms were clean and has all the basic amenities but when we were there, pool etc was under renovations, so no wellness. I felt that check-in could have done a better job in welcoming guests. Food was ok. Breakfast menu offered needs major improvement especially the Asian cuisine, the dim sums and the chicken soup-just don’t offer it if it can’t be made well, just leave it off! Other parts of the breakfast were quite acceptable. Staff at this hotel were not particularly friendly or smiley. That needs improvement.
