Good stay

Everything was fine and the staff was good and friendly.
The only negative point was some noise during the first night coming from the music of the ground floor.
The TV screen could be larger for a junior suite (we have been upgraded).

Location, Location, Location!

For the price, this hotel is in a truly wonderful location in Lille Centre, with underground parking nearby and a only quick walk to the train station. Excellent dining, shopping and sightseeing opportunities abound.

The lobby and dining area is small, but comfortable and charming enough. (Note: The elevator is very tiny, so be prepared to make a few trips if you have a lot of bags.) The staff were very welcoming and friendly, presenting us with a complimentary bottle of wine upon check-in -- so lovely!

My husband and I had a standard room. It was updated and clean -- very presentable, though also quite tiny. (We had 2 large and two carry-on suitcases with us and we were pretty much entirely boxed in.) Despite the lack of space, it came equipped with everything we needed.

The bed and bedding was quite comfortable, and the shower had more than adequate hot water and water pressure (which is something I treasure when traveling). I would stay at this hotel again, though I would definitely want to upgrade to a larger room if possible.

Fab location - very small rooms

I think this deserves 4.5 stars but falls short of the full 5:

Location: fantastic. close to the grand place, easy to find, would be hard to beat

Service: check in was easy. On the first night we got bitten so badly by mosquitos that we couldn’t sleep. I called down to reception and 10 minutes later there was a light knock on the door and they had a room spray for us. Fantastic service and we were very grateful!!

Room: this is where it slightly loses points. The room was so small that I felt a bit claustrophobic. You couldn’t fully open the bathroom door and it was difficult to keep the room neat. I don’t normally feel claustrophobic but it really bothered me and I felt quite uncomfortable in there. That said, the room was modern, clean and the bathroom was nice (good mirror lighting for makeup) and you’re normally only in the room for a short amount of time on a mini break. We were staying next to our friends and we could each hear the others conversations - noise travels between the rooms.

Room had no heat!
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I checked into this hotel with my 5 year old Son on a Saturday afternoon for one night. We spend the day enjoying the city but we came back t room it was extremely cold in the room. I turned on the heat but the heater only blew cold air. I contact the front desk who told me to come down. When I arrived at the front desk I was told that they could only offer me a radiator/space heater. I ask if it was the type of heater that was not hot to the touch because I had my 5 year old with me. The lady told me I should put the heater away from my child and that the hotel was fully booked and there were no other options. I explained to her that the hotel room was too cold to sleep in without heat and that unit that could burn my child was not an option for me. She said there was nothing she could do.

I ask if I could speak with a manager and was told there was no manager on duty. I ask her to then call her manager and explain the situation and ask I could either have a refund or a credit because the room was too cold to sleep in and I would have to go to another hotel. She again said that no manger was available. I told her that I was sure that the hotel manager had a phone number at home and that she should call them. After waiting in the lobby 20 minutes she comes back and said she called her manager and the manager said that since I paid in advance (hotels.com) that I could have to get my money from them. Such Crap!

I immediately pulled out my phone and called hotels.com who then attempted to reach the hotel. They came back and said they could not reach anyone but would continue to try. Several emails later hotels.com says that the manager refused to refund my money because the room was used for more than 7 hours. We never got to sleep in the room! DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL! Any hotel that takes your money and offers no heat is a SCAM! It is not the customers fault that the hotels heating system is broken. That is the hotels issues and they should have said something when I checked in.

On a good note. Hotels.com refunded my money as goodwill gesture! Thanks hotels.com for taking care of this issue. NEVER BOOK at Mercure Lille Centre Grand Place!

Comfortable hotel in a great central location.

Great location close to the beautiful old town and only 10minutes walk from the Eurostar terminal. We were able to walk all around the city from the hotel and it has a great selection of bars and restaurants nearby. My room was small, but clean & comfortable. The room has tea & coffee facilities, a fridge, safe, hairdryer & plenty of sockets. The shower room was small but OK with both an overhead and hand held shower head. Whilst body wash is wall mounted in the shower, there is no selection of toiletries or shower cap provided. We didn’t eat at the hotel so I can’t comment on breakfast. Staff were friendly and efficient and we were able to leave our cases at the hotel on the last day and collect them later, which was helpful. Would happily stay here again.
