How to Get There
An amazing hotel, perfect location right on the beach and the staff are excellent. A beautiful spa and a Michelin restaraunt attached to the hotel. This is really the best place to stay in all of Saint Jean de Luz.
My only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer than one night.
A large group of us stayed here after our first day of a Backroads Cycle Tour. We also had a delicious dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Our room overlooked the street but had a window/part balcony on the side, from where we could view the beautiful beach. The room was spacious, & extremely quiet, with a very comfortable king bed. We also had a second bathroom (one had a shower & basin, the other had a bath & 2 basins) The loo was separate. I would definitely stay here again.
This is our fifth visit over about ten years. First, the location of this hotel is brilliant, right on the beach which you can access directly through the spa. Second, it has a sumptuous breakfast which, weather permitting, you can take on the terrace overlooking the sea. Third, Saint Jean de Luz is a wonderful resort. Fourth and most importantly, the staff are brilliant. Ew struck up a particularly good relationship with Miguel who, it turned out is a big fan of Fawlty Towers!
No hesitation in recommending the hotel!
Could not fault anything about The Grand Hotel! Friendly helpful staff. Delicious food in Michelin Star Restaurant. Extremely comfortable room with a fantastic view-201! Great massage in lovely spa and fun water spinning class in the pool.
All in all a great place to stay!
We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights as a mini break. It's a lovely building in a privileged location overlooking the bay. On the whole the staff are wonderful and the beds comfy and of good quality. The wifi was good as was the tea and coffee facilities in the room. It was lovely to sit on the veranda overlooking the sea, all in all a beautiful hotel and location.
However our first and last night the bed was not turned down, we told the night manager but he just shrugged his shoulders and said the lady had now gone home, the second time a person was sent to turn the bed down but it was obviously a rushed job. We have been on many cruises and if this had happened it would be a hanging offence and we would have received a bottle of champagne for the let down, this is a five star hotel and it should not happen.
The restaurant was a beautiful location with a fab view and very attentive and pleasant staff, however for the money we paid the food was of a mundane quality with a very limited menu. We live in France and have a Michelin star restaurant near us which is of a far superior quality for less money.
The room also smelled musty and the bath was not a comfortable design at all and quite hard to get in and out of due to a fixed shower screen.
We are used to five star plus accommodation and we don't believe this lived up to the status of the stars.
