- Every evening, there's happy hour at the bar
For those who want to party like it’s the Roaring Twenties, the Gatsby Hotel & Restaurant is a four-star bolthole that celebrates F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby – an iconic story of a thwarted love that was brought to the big screen by Baz Luhrmann in 2013. And while this five-storey building on the outskirts of Lyon may look modish on the outside, it’s all Jazz Age glitz and glamour once you step inside.
The nod to all things Gatsby is apparent throughout, especially in the sleek-as-you-like guest rooms. There’s also a fitness room, outdoor pool with sunloungers, and all-day restaurant for regional gastro fare. Days here can be spent marvelling at Lyon’s new £186 million stadium Stade des Lumieres, visiting the fascinating Lumiere Institute Museum to see some of the world’s earliest picture reels, and draining your wallet on designer offerings on Rue de President Herriot.
Post-sightseeing, retreat to the ravishing hotel bar for roulette, table football and tenpin bowling, plus an early evening ‘HappyTime’ where you can drink yourself under the (billiards) table.
How to Get There
Don't understand the 4-star rating here. This hotel is located in a very industrial area, and very inconvenient to public transport. Heavy trucks roll by any time after 5am, with deliveries. Never did get a hot shower here - stayed 4 nights.
If you're headed to EURExpo, it's a 12-15 minute walk through an industrial area, where trucks and cars can be parked on the sidewalks.
What a waste of time this has turned out to be! I've just spent a day travelling on the ferry and driving 480 miles and was looking foreward to a meal abd a beer, only to find that the restaurant and bar are both closed!
Their website dsys it's open, the booklet in the room says they are open and even the ads in the lift say they are open!
Another one to come off the company list!
Fab hotel with lots of free parking and 10 mins from airport. Lovely rooms very clean ant not to noisy so good nights sleep. Food was very good including the breakfast. Watch out for the Belgium beer very strong!!
The breakfast is ok, but nothing special.
The room was clean but very simple, not what is accepted when you see the pictures of the restaurant and the entry.
The good point is the proximity of the high way
We were expecting a higher standard in view of the price. Unfortunately, I think they are guaranteed visitors, as there aren't many hotels in the area and when you have a fair all day you don't want to have to go far. The staff were very hard working but the overall standard is low.
