In a prime position on Porec’s palm-lined seafront promenade, Valamar Riviera Hotel & Villa Parentino is fronted by a wooden terrace with palms, big white parasols and boxy white-wicker sofas. Inside, the spacious no-fuss lobby has a subtle nautical theme, dotted with blue cushions and black-and-white photos of sail boats. The look is solid, sensible and sun kissed.
Bed & Bath
Rooms have wooden floors, generous beds with a choice of pillows, ample pine wardrobes, and blue-striped armchairs. Bathrooms are basic with beige tiles and either a shower or bathtub – specify if you have preferences. Suites are more spacious and have sea views (some with balconies), plus a living area with a cream leather sofa (making an extra bed), and a coffee-maker. It’s not a boutique hotel in the true sense, as the rooms all have the same décor and furnishing.
A plentiful buffet breakfast is laid out in the ground floor dining room: Fresh fruit, yogurts, pancakes, oven-warm croissants, plus eggs cooked to order. The Spinnaker restaurant offers more personalized dining, serving Mediterranean dishes such as sea bass carpaccio with wild asparagus at waterside tables, overlooking the boats moored up along the quay, while the nearby Parentino wine-bar offers wine tasting under the auspices of a sommelier. A private beach on the nearby islet of Sveti Nikola is served by regular taxi-boat.
How to Get There
This hotel was in an excellent location in Porec, overlooking the harbour. We stayed in one of the blocks next to the original & so you walked out of the main reception & few metres to the other entrance. This was no problem, as so close & you went back to the main block for the reception, restaurant & bar. This block however did not have a lift, so could be a problem for some. The reception staff were very friendly & welcoming. Our room was very spacious, modern & clean & the bed was comfy. Plenty of storage/wardrobe space. Hairdryer, air-con, mini-bar & mini toiletries inc. Towels could be changed daily if required. The breakfast was very nice & a good choice. Lovely lady who made omelettes & fried eggs! The staff were all friendly. The hotel's sister hotel is on the island, which is a 2-3 minute free taxi boat away from the harbour and here you can use the pool and the beaches. You are supplied with beach towels and the sun-beds were free. The taxi-boat goes regularly (every 15-30 mins) all day & evening. Porec itself is a lovely quiet old town to walk around. There is no traffic in the old part. There are plenty of restaurants around and reasonable too. Rovinj is about 45 mins away by bus (approx £6 each return) and is well worth a visit too. We visited when a lot is quietening down for the season (30.9-2.10.19). I would recommend this hotel.
The hotel proved to be very successful and accommodating for people with mobility issues and wheelchairs. Although it is not advertised as suitable for wheelchair users it is in fact a much better hotel than other places that suggest they are suitable. The room was spacious and the bathroom large enough for a wheelchair, easy access within the hotel and reliable lifts to the rooms. However what made the trip special was the willingness of the staff to assist with any help required. Most impressive was the buffet style half board restaurant (I find it hard to carry plates) where the restaurant staff were fantastic in their willingness to assist in the plating up and carry of all food to the table. The hotel is close to the level harbour and very near to the old town, so it is difficult not to provide the hotel with 5 stars as it met all our needs, Excellent place and happy to recommend.
Great hotel, oustanding facilities - indoor and outdoor pool were botrh first class. Staff are excellent - very professional and helpful. Porec the town is a about a mile or so walk which is very enjoyable thru the Pine Forest and down by the waterfront. Thouroughly brilliant place to visit for a relaxing and chilled out holiday.
