Overview

Glass and steel modernism with a vibrant art collection against the historic backdrop of Graz

The Lowdown

Architect Günter Domenig’s glass and steel Augarten Hotel Art & Design cuts a dash in a city where Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture dominates. Interiors are minimal and (mostly) monochrome, with a modern furniture line that compliments one-off pieces, including Ron Arad’s Bad Tempered Chair. Original artwork looms large inside and out — Gustav Troger’s sculpture “Jochen Rindt” stands on the rooftop terrace. Most rooms have balconies; those that don’t have a bonus view of Graz’s iconic clock tower. Fill up at the award-winning Magnolia restaurant with modern Austrian and Mediterranean dishes by chef Herbert Schmidhofer.

In the Area

The center of Graz is well placed for visiting the Landeszeughaus (a huge historic armory), and the impressive Rathaus, which looks more like a fairytale palace than a humble town hall. Don’t miss Kunsthaus Graz, the architectural highlight of the European Capital of Culture in 2003. Designed by Peter Cook and Colin Fournier, it’s a center for contemporary art that’s been nicknamed “the friendly alien.” The Gothic Graz Cathedral will appeal to more traditional tastes.

Nice, modern style hotel design by artist. A lot of art works around. High grade and friendly staff in reception, do their best to help and assure all goes well. I like their gym and spa center which keep open for 24 hours with nice amenities

Location - 10 minutes walk from the center of this beautiful city
Breakfast - a very good generose one great omelets
Room a nice size room with a small balcony , the air condition works well . You must be careful going in and out the bath tab it’s very slippery . But the bath room is big and comfortable except the bath tap and the shower .
Over all this hotel has small apartments too as room 103 in the other building . Perfect place fir a long stay .
I recommend this hotel
Art is all over the hotel out and inside the hotel

Augarten Hotel is in a quiet area but close to the center even on foot. It is very profitable choice when making a short vacation in Graz. Tasteful corridors and walls with elegant artifacts wake people to wander the other floors and garden. Clean and silent room, shared terrace, all-the-time-ready sauna and indoor pool could be the reasons to choose this hotel. Open-buffet breakfast with many ingredients and realy welldone coffee let you start the day with happiness. Thanks and keep this quality.
