How to Get There
Nice big room with acceptable facilities and levels of cleanliness. Bathroom was dated but fully functioning and fit for purpose. Good breakfast, quite a limited selection but was ok. Nice restaurant with a good selection of food on the menu. Friendly and efficient service at check in and good service in the restaurant. Reasonable stay. Very close to Hyde Park
Not a good stay, for the very expensive price paid the room was very small and room was tired. The bed was very small too and right up against a wall, so not a good nights sleep for the two of us. Breakfast was disgusting. Will not be returning to this hotel.
So here we go ...
1) Location cannot be beat, 7 minute walk to Paddington Station, 2 minute walk to Lancaster Gate station
2) Literally located at Kensington Palace Gardens (Hyde Park) main gate brilliant for mornings and evenings
3) Few minutes away from Marble arch and Mayfair by Uber/Cab
4) Rooms (I had #204) Deluxe Double were large, spacious, high ceilings with cupboards, writing desk and bar etc ...
5) Check in was smooth, very cordial and welcoming management.
6) Hotel had a bar/restaurant and outdoor seating for nice weather
7) Lovely charming property, nice traditional British decor
8) Could not fault the hotel in anyway, BUT ....
To be objective
1) There was no drinking water in the rooms, which after a day out is really needed and the hotel can keep a couple of smaller drinking water bottles (costs nothing :)
2) The downside here was the toilet amenities - a tie up with a basic/generic brand soap, shampoo company would go a long way to make the experience memorable. We actually went to the pharmacy to buy some.
3) As all London classic properties a bit of upkeep would help just bathroom fittings etc
An extremely old and run down hotel. All facilities, furniture, look and feel are old. Has not been touched in years. Noisy rooms, thin windows. Location is central and convenient. Not good value for money. Stay away.
I stayed at this hotel mid week with a group of colleagues. Our first experience was checking in, we arrived qutie a while before the check in time so we weren't expecting our room to be ready. The gentleman who was at reception seemed somewhat uninterested. We gave our name to find our booking, to be told that breakfast wasn't included, we proceeded to show him our booking confirmation clearly showing the rate and that breakfast was included, eventually he came to the conclusion that he was sure it would be "fine".
He then explained how the room wasn't paid for, again we showed him the confirmation that the room had already been paid for in full. After checking his system, and us having to argue that the room was already paid for eventually again we decided it was fine. Thankfully I was with the colleague who made the booking who had all the confirmation emails available to her at the time, our other colleagues were not going to be so lucky. We explained that we wanted assurances that our colleagues will not have the go through the same palaver that we had, but he explained it was "fine" once again.
We asked to leave our luggage at the hotel until we returned later when our room was ready (something which I don't believe to be a unreasonable request) to which he tutted and suggested we bring them round to the back office.
Later that day we returned to the hotel to check into our suite. We were given our 2 rooms keys and sent on our way, with no directions. With little staff around, we had to ask other guests for help!
The Junior Suite was a large room, with a huge bed. There was 1 plug socket in the room situated under the TV so if you wanted to use a hair dryer, straighteners or even charge your phone, you had to unplug the TV.
The bathroom was dated, with some of the tiles looking like they were about to coming away from the wall.
On top of all of this, at 1.30 am all of the electricity to the room was switched off due to a leak from the floor above, which had occurred in the week prior to our visit.
We contacted reception who offered to put us in another room. So in the dark, we packed up our things and moved to the forth floor to a new room. The hallway of the forth floor smelt mouldy (probably due to the leak). The new room was fine, not dissimilar to our original room (albeit with a couple more plug sockets!)
We checked out in the morning, the same gentleman that checked us in was on reception. We expressed that we weren't particularly impressed about having to haul our luggage across the hotel in our pajamas in the middle of night, to which he explained it was lucky they found us another room.
The hotel knew about the leak 1 week before our stay and still chose to put us up in the room despite this, and despite there being another room to the same spec available.
I wouldn't recommend staying here
