How to Get There
Although not up to the standards expected from a Waldorf this hotel isn't bad. It's in a very Central location and convenient to theaters, restaurants and public transport.
They have a machine that constantly pumps out an overwhelming perfume in the lobby by the lifts. It's so strong that one would think they are trying to cover up the smell of a dead body, honestly, I'd rather smell the dead body! The rooms are tiny so be prepared for that, it's basically for sleeping only. Housekeeping doesn't arrive until late in the day which is inconvenient if you happen to come back for an afternoon rest.
We booked the Astor Suite, it was really a treat, and had its own champagne fridge and selection in the lounge and the suite was really well decorated for the theme. Service great, could not fault the room except for the inside of the cupboards, which were bright blue and in some areas the wood chipped and safe very small, could not fit a small notebook pc. Other than these small observations it was exceptional. Breakfasts were busy and there were queues and unfortunately few times the buffet ran out of food in the containers. But a really great hotel, nice Wimbledon theme at entrance and exceptionally busy. The reception allowed early check which I found very professional and attractive and that alone is worth the visit. We had booked 2 suites, but the travel agent had double booked the Astor so my son and his partner stayed in a deluxe room. I was very impressed with the executive business lounge and used it often. An excellent feature.
The hotel had a great location. The staff was really nice and helped us with everthing we needed. Only problem was it was really hot while we were there and I would not call what they have air conditioning. It was more like a fan that recirculated cool not cold air. Also the bathrooms were stifling hot the recirculated air didn't quite make it in there. Had we visited another time of year I would have given it 4 stars.
Two nights in London at the Waldorf Hilton in the perfect location for a trip to the ROH.
Great room with very effective air con that did not sound like a jet engine.
Will be back again next year to see Tosca at the ROH.
One night stay in London to celebrate with my wife.
Walking distance from theatres and Covent Garden
As HH members we were treated really well.
The breakfast is still to be worked a bit more for this brand.
