How to Get There
I stayed for two nights during the week on business, mostly to see the comparison to my last stay at one of the chains down the road. The room size was very good, bed very comfortable and it had character, which is where the chains fall over imho.
The amount of complimentary items was excellent and included, bottled water, fresh milk, crisps, a chocolate bar and nuts, which is much more than I expected. The room decor itself was a library theme with a number of Thierry Poncelet prints framed (funny animal portraits). The bathroom was very clean and I am usually very picky and always find something.
Noise wise, you're in London so there's always a hum, but generally it was no worse than any other. If anything I'd say better as there weren't as many doors to slam from other residents!
The hotel is also opposite Leather Lane, which during the day is full of street food stalls selling absolute delights that you can't miss out on.
I come down to our London office a few times a year and will be staying here again for sure.
Great place to be. Food spectacular, cold beer, great location and the service formidable. We made friends with the staff there. On the next visit to London I will be staying in one of their rooms. Amazing!
Stayed two night in December and really enjoyed. Rooms are well designed, although my basic level room could do with a comfortable chair. Shower and amenities are great! Particularly liked the Nespresso and frother and milk!
We haven't eaten at the Clerk and Well - sadly we were going out for dinner locally with friends as it looked buzzy and fun with a tonne of people smiling and having a great time! The booking couldn't have been easier, and collecting our key was just the same: super friendly and helpful staff who despite protestations took luggage and lead the way to our room. Conisdering the noise from the pub and outside, as soon as we were in our room we couldn't hear a thing. Bliss. Delicious bed and linens - comfy pillows, proper high quality cotton duvet, sheet etc. Bathroom styley with good products and fluffy towels. every amenity we could think of - tea, coffee, nuts etc etc. Just so impressed with it. we could have really done with room service, Netflix (comes with every room I think) and dare, I say it, chill. but we had to go. late return - easy, quiet room. we collapsed. The next morning it couldn't have been easier to drop our key off with super helpful woman on the desk. Super impressed with this - really everything we could have wished for plus comfort, good sound-proofing, styley rooms. DEFINITELY staying here again, given half the chance.
We booked the room via Booking.com for the dates of the 22nd to the 24th October. Prior to arrival we received an email explaining that check in was from 3pm and if we had an expected time of arrival - i replied explaining that the 22nd October was our wedding anniversary so we would be arriving by 3pm, probably before and if we did we would get a drink at the bar.
We arrived at 1.30pm and luckily our room was ready. The gentleman who checked us in (I think he was the manager) asked if we needed help with our bags up to the room as they are up steep stairs. The gentleman showed us the amenities within the beautiful room (which was spotless), which also includes free Netflix. Everything you could think of you need for a mini break they have thought for you - iron and ironing board, hairdryer, bathrobe, slippers, shampoo, conditioner etc. Also there was a mini fridge in the room with two bottles of water, a bottle of milk for your tea and coffee. What I found really lovely was the bar of chocolate, bag of crisps and nuts.
Now I had mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary in an email exchanged and we were blown away that there was a bottle of fizzy on ice in our room. What a wonderful thoughtful thing to do. This got our two night stay off to a fantastic start!
The Clerk and Well Pub is about a 10 min walk from Farringdon tube station and its in a lovely and lively area of London - lots of places to have a drink and grab a drink. We did have a few drinks in the bar itself, we didn't eat there, however the food looked incredible.
Although the rooms are above a lively pub we did not hear any noise from the pub or the outside street. The windows are double glazed. The first night we found the room hot, however we then discovered the air con unit and our second night was much better.
This is a fantastic place to stay if you are coming to London. We had breakfast at the Shard on our first morning and we walked there which was just over 2 miles, so it goes to show that although it is not in central London, within a short time you are in the centre of London.
We would certainly stay here again if we were coming to London - Thank you The Clerk and Well Pub for helping make our wedding anniversary so memorable!
