How to Get There
I had stayed at the hotel 3 years ago and found it quite charming with a spacious quiet room in the older part of the Hotel. However, my return visit proved shockingly disappointing- I booked the hotel as a birthday treat and we checked in at 10pm to a Fawlty Towers style check-in to room 259, where I was immediately asked to sign a piece of paper for 'registration purposes', on closer inspection I actually noticed I was being asked to sign an additional tip of 18 GBP tip per night of my stay. The room was old-world decorated with nice furniture but poorly maintained and inadequate in many other areas, we asked to be shown another room and were shown a simialr but smaller room which had a cheaper Holiday Inn type feel which we refused. faults with the room were as follows:
1. There was scaffolding up against our window, blocking much of the natural light coming into the window.
2. There was circles of thick yellow mold on the bathroom ceiling
3. The room was extremely noisy with a large gap under the main door (which also served as a source of strong light).
4. The room had a connecting door with the room next door, there was clearly no proper insulating measures undertaken, as you could clearly hear normal conversation from the other guests, also morning cleaning/ hoovering sounded like the maid was actually in my room.
5. The net curtains were dirty and had tears, the main faux curtains were torn to ribbons in sections.
At our check out, we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay nor any other small talk, I think the staff may have been guilty knowing their former 5* hotel in now sadly more akin to a 3*.
Very good hotel with superb location. Did i mention the location! You will find yourself from a rather quiet and posh neighbourhood of Knightsbridge between great shopping opportunities. Hotel is located basically between Harvey Nichols and Harrods.
Good restaurants nearby, easy to commute (Piccadilly line) and the tube station is just a five minute walk away.
Hotel itself is quiet boutique-ish hotel. Yes, I do agree with some comments that refurbishment might be in place. Room I stayed in was quite small and slightly outdated compared to modern world. In other hand, there are these nice touches made by the hotel staff e.g. fresh fruits, bottled water every night etc.
Service was very good, I was very happy with everything.
This centrally located hotel that is 10 min walk to the white house has nothing to offer but its location. Expensive, old, poor beeakfast, the rooms are small ans has not even simple slippers inside. I regret to stay there and will never recommend the hotel anyone else. Try other places. Havind said that the staff was friendly and hepful.
