Overview

Upscale airport digs with direct access to Heathrow’s Terminal 5

The Lowdown

Airport hotels tend to favor function over fashion, but this five-star Sofitel skillfully balances both. The common areas are decidedly contemporary (glass chandeliers, futuristic furnishings), while the 605 guestrooms are outfitted with tan leather sofas and sleek hardwood headboards, with pops of deep burgundy and olive-green. There’s no need to leave for good food: Savor 31 teas from around the world at Tea 5, get your white tablecloth fix at La Belle Epoque (the only fine dining restaurant in Heathrow dishes out gourmet French fare and holds three AA rosettes), or settle in for a fireside nightcap and small plates at Sphere, the lobby cocktail bar.

In the Area

Catching a flight out of chaotic Heathrow is mercifully convenient thanks to a covered walkway linking the property directly to Terminal 5. If you have time to venture away from your gate, take the Heathrow Express to central London; you’re less than half an hour away from Paddington Station, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Or take a cab to nearby Windsor Castle; the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world offers tours of its grounds, including fall and winter visits to the ornate Semi-State Rooms (provided the queen isn’t entertaining).

Convenient...after you find it!

Took us a bit to find the hotel, but I think that is because of Heathrow airport and their signage. I wish the signage was more apparent. This is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars...otherwise, I would give 5

Second time for us that was as good as the first.

With an early flight from T5, we have discovered the benefits of stopping at the Sofitel the night before. Great hotel and staff with the most comfortable rooms and not to forget the amazing beds.
It wasn't the first time for us and it certainly won't be the last. It's a total no brainer.

A bespoke experience with an outstanding service. The food was exquisite and delicious. Most importantly the service from our host Clive was attentive and caring. Will definitely be revisiting again soon.
