Overview

Upscale airport digs with direct access to Heathrow’s Terminal 5

The Lowdown

Airport hotels tend to favor function over fashion, but this five-star Sofitel skillfully balances both. The common areas are decidedly contemporary (glass chandeliers, futuristic furnishings), while the 605 guestrooms are outfitted with tan leather sofas and sleek hardwood headboards, with pops of deep burgundy and olive-green. There’s no need to leave for good food: Savor 31 teas from around the world at Tea 5, get your white tablecloth fix at La Belle Epoque (the only fine dining restaurant in Heathrow dishes out gourmet French fare and holds three AA rosettes), or settle in for a fireside nightcap and small plates at Sphere, the lobby cocktail bar.

In the Area

Catching a flight out of chaotic Heathrow is mercifully convenient thanks to a covered walkway linking the property directly to Terminal 5. If you have time to venture away from your gate, take the Heathrow Express to central London; you’re less than half an hour away from Paddington Station, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Or take a cab to nearby Windsor Castle; the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world offers tours of its grounds, including fall and winter visits to the ornate Semi-State Rooms (provided the queen isn’t entertaining).

We only stayed for an overnight between flights, but loved the service, food and ease. Very comfortable room. Wish we had energy for the gym after our long trip. We enjoyed talking with our bartender and then impressively motivated restaurant waiter ,Vlad

Perfect place to stay before flying out of Terminal 5

Great night's sleep after a long trip in Europe. Rooms were well outfitted and super quiet. Staff was friendly and helpful. Casual dining restaurant was just right. We chose this hotel for the location, but it was perfect in so many ways.
