How to Get There
London hotel well located for most things. Small rooms but clean. Eating options are fine for during the day and breakfast. Lots of restaurants nearby offering good evening options. Front desk staff friendly.
Stayed here last week. My Bloomsbury is a small hotel, nothing fancy but it has everything you'd need for a 1 or 2 night stay; minibar, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, really nice toiletries replenished daily. The bed was super comfy and everywhere was very clean. We asked for a quiet room and that's exactly what we got.
The bedrooms have air con but it wasn't very effective in our room so we asked for a fan and got one straight away. Staff are very pleasant and are happy to help. The best thing about this hotel is the location, just off the Tottenham Court Road, easy walking distance to the West End and China Town and Tube Stations and only a 15 minute walk to Euston. We would stay here again.
This is not a 4 star hotel. The pictures on here look nice but it is not nice in person. The carpets in all of the rooms are filthy and the staff is not accommodating. We complained about how dirty the carpets were and that our toilet wasn’t flushing and they said that’s just how the rooms are and that we had to flush the toilet a certain way (which shouldn’t be at a place you’re paying for). Only after we were very insistent did they say they’d find another room for us, and that new room’s carpet was dirty too. Then there was no hot water in our room and the staff again didn’t care. While it is in a good location near underground stops, I’d stay somewhere else. The rooms are extremely small, and this is more of a 3 star hotel.
What a great find! Nice, clean room. Staff were all very helpful. Soundproofing not very good but that's the only downside. Very central, lots of interesting places within easy walking distance. Interesting breakfast menu in Gail's bakery. Service a bit slow the 2nd morning but it was busy. Mushrooms on toast with spinach & a fried egg were very good (had to asked for the egg to be cooked more).
Ok as some of you can see I'm a regular contributor to Trip Advisor and I like to be fair considered and objective before I write a review. On this occasion I have deliberated for some time before writing a review.
So let's look at the positives - my partner and I visited on the late May Bank Holiday weekend as we go to the Rugby Final at Twickenham. Location is good being near to Oxford Street, the West End and Tottenham Court Road Tube. The room was adequate and clean. Bed was comfortable and in that regard we had nothing to complain about.
So now the tricky bit. On arrival I was asked for my credit card in case of extra's. I have now discovered that if a room is paid for, you have no obligation to hand over your credit card although if you haven't paid for your stay in advance you could be refused entry to the room if you don't. On departure, the young lady on reception stated there was nothing further to pay as we had not taken advantage of the Mini Bar. Imagine my surprise when a few days later I found a £2.50 charge from the hotel appearing on my credit card and upon querying this charge I was told by a gentleman called Alberte (I think) that this fee was for some M & M's which we never had. Alberte advised that this fee would be refunded but it never has been. Now £2.50 is nothing to get wound up about but the following day I had a charge of nearly £1500 taken from my credit card for a payment supposedly to Co-Op Insurance although having taken the matter up with the Co-Op they can't find a transaction for this amount on that date or the days before. This of course could be pure coincidence (although I did not use my credit card anywhere else that weekend) and I have now had the £1500 returned to me by my credit card company as that transaction was fraudulent. However, you all know how time consuming this is what with having to call the bank etc, holding on for what seems ages, cancelling cards and having to request new ones. It's annoying. As I said previously this episode could have nothing to do with the hotel at all but when I wrote an email regarding the situation I received no response and when i spoke to the Hotel direct by phone they were totally disinterested. Customer Service for this hotel therefore, gets 1 star although it would have received zero if that had been an option.
