How to Get There
I've stayed at this particular hotel several times, twice in the club room which was actually quite spacious for the price, especially in such a central area.
I decided to stay in the Studio Suite however, much to my surprise the room was dully lit and had a dated feel. Needless to say I wasn't exactly impressed given the price - somewhat disappointed with this aspect. I do however, appreciate the extra toiletries in the bathroom and the size of the room. These rooms are in need to restoration and modernising, despite this I had a good nights sleep which is the main thing.
Unfortunately this has led me to stay elsewhere recently despite the fact that this hotel is well positioned being only a 30 second walk away from Gloucester Road tube station. Not only is the location great but the lifts are card operated meaning you can only go the floor your room is on... unless someone else is in the lift - however the lifts seem slow as it appeared only a few lifts were actually in operation (I could be wrong). The lobby is grand and open with plenty of seats should you need it and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room service was great and food arrived promptly to my room.
Overall I was reasonably happy with my stay, the decor and the apparent age of the furnishings put a downer on things given the price but I guess you pay for the location and the ease of access to public transport.
When we arrived at the hotel after a red eye from Toronto @10am, I was hoping for a quiet check in process and some understanding that we'd need a room sooner rather than later. The front door helpers were extremely pushy with my friend and took all of our luggage and INSISTED they bring them up until I got to them and told them no. Then they said they would only bring our big luggage up and we could bring the smaller ones. Again, I told them no and they seemed so bothered by this. I understand they're trying to make their tip and we were two young women with one suitcase and one purse each but, we are more than capable. The hotel lobby was an absolute ZOO with a lineup of minimum 50 people trying to check in. When it was my turn to check in, I asked if there was a room available now and I was told yes. However, after the front desk associate was done putting in my information, she told me it was going to be another 30 pounds per night times 6 nights that I was staying there. I thought that was kind of rude so I told her to keep it and we'd be back later on.
When we did finally get our room, I would say it was much bigger than expected and quite clean. I was nervous because it was so cheap! Only weird thing was that the plugs were in awkward places and there was no plug in the bathroom which was extremely inconvenient if you wanted to style your hair!
I would stay there again. It was one of the few hotels we could find that offered two twin beds instead of one double bed so if you don't want to share a bed with your travel partner, they have options! I would just avoid front desk as much as possible (and I definitely did after my check-in experience.)
Also, super close to the metro and very easy to uber to and from. It was very close to many of the things we were seeing and very easy to walk from.
If only staying for a short stay then this is a great location right next to Gloucester Road tube station in a safe,vibrant area of London, The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Victoria and Albert and National History museums, Hyde Park , Royal Albert Hall and Harrods. The hotel seems to be set up to cater for businesses looking for conference facilities and seems to have neglected updating the bedrooms, which were clean and had good, comfortable beds but were very tired and dated, feeling very 1980's. Price for a room was very reasonable for London in such a a nice area.
Checked out of room 108 yesterday - 11th March. On arrival home realised I had left 2 items of clothing in hotel wardrobe. Contacted hotel who put me through to lost property. Lady who I spoke to said no items had been handed in but she would check with the cleaner who had cleaned the room. I explained that there were definitely items of clothing left in the wardrobe so if they were not there now then someone must have taken them. I was advised to ring back today. Spoke with the lady in lost property again who advised she would try and speak with the cleaner in question and would get back to me. After 5 phone calls and being passed from pillar to post I am still no nearer to Locating the items. I am disappointed with the lack of customer service regarding this matter and feel sorry that there may be employers working for the hotel who are not being truthful. I hope this matter can be eventually resolved although I am feeling doubtful.
Whether you're traveling for business or holiday, this hotel does the trick. Their rooms are spacious, comfy and clean. Concierge are always there to help. It's centrally located with the tube station just around the corner and High Street Kensington is walking distance. Breakfast is good value and you have plenty of choice. Pity I didn't discover this London hotel earlier. See you next year!
