How to Get There
This hotel was very comfortable and the staff were lovely. The breakfast was more than generous and included a wide variety of selections to meet the taste of their various international guests. The concierge, in particular, was most helpful in that he provided good information that help us make our decisions concerning attractions to visit. The only down side was that the standard room that I stayed in really could have used a bit of freshening up: the wood work need painting and their were some tears in the wallpaper. Things like that do not leave a good impression.
From the very unfriendly website to the poor room, this stay was a disappointment. The only reason I booked this hotel was that we were joining a tour group staying there. They could not provide room level that tour group had so we needed to book Club Level rooms. Needed to prepay to get any kind of a break on room costs. They delivered our luggage to wrong room, took over 35 minutes to check in. Requested that we repay for room because my credit card numbers had changed. No one bothered to explain internet connection or amenities of hotel. Room had only one plug in the entire room that would accept convertor or adapter. Device recharging was VERY slow. Had to negotiate for the pre paid breakfast that I had paid for. Toilet seat broke in the middle of the night. Toilet required two or three flushes. Heated towel bar had sign posted that it did not heat. Beds had no top sheet. They are not located near theater district or galleries so added 20£ taxi fare going or returning. Overall a very bad experience
on entering my room and heading to turn on light I was greeted with a stained switch which looked like blood, was disgusted so cleaned it off with wipes should have photographed it....the safe was up high in wardrobe it could not be reached....spoke to staff who were very friendly but no answer for the problem. At front desk was told all rooms are the same but have since discovered that is not true as stayed later in another room where the safe was down low. The breakfast was good but the tables were not cleaned up for ages.
Excellent location with regard to the tube station and choice of restaurants in the vicinity. Check in was swift and courteous. My room was “one of the best” on the top floor with a fair view of the distance (if you need to ignore the immediate area of the backs of the neighbouring flats and the rest of the hotel).
The class of room enabled me to use the Club Lounge on the 6th floor for Happy Hour till 7pm. There was wine, spirits, soft and (by that time a little tired) snacks. It was nice to be able to have a quick drink before I got ready to go out.
The room was clean but had quite an unpleasant smell to it. I finally worked out it was the rather tired carpet. If you’re paying nearly £200 a night, you don’t expect the room to smell of sweat and sour milk. The bed was comfortable although just a double. I didn’t complain about my room as I had been told the hotel was completely full. I also thought I would get used to the smell. Sadly I didn’t.
You need to ignore the erroneous instructions in the room of how to turn the tv on. You press the POWER button on the remote, NOT the OK button and then leave it for a few seconds. According to one helpful member of staff, they have been trying to get the notices changed for a while but to no avail.
Breakfast was ok with a decent choice; food was slightly tepid though. The loaf you could slice was excellent though with the (understandably, given security concerns) blunt knife it took a while to cut through the crust. Nice and courteous service.
Would I stay again? Possibly. I usually stay further into the centre of town and this was a last minute booking. Hopefully the room smell is just particular to this one.
Stayed 5 nights in this hotel. Location is 5 star, underground is literally around the corner. Room was smallish but quite comfortable, for an old hotel everything was in good working condition. Club lounge was lovely. Overall very good value.
