How to Get There
The hotel is very well located, 2 minutes from Tate Modern, 5 from Borough Market / London Bridge, near 3 different metro stations. Many restaurants in this lively but quiet neighborhood. Our room was spacious, well equipped and clean. The staff was attentive to our needs and had special attentions throughout our stay. A very good experience!
I booked the hotel about one month in advance through my company, requested it as it was across street from 3 days of meetings. After an overnight 10-hr flight and 2-hr taxi from Heathrow I arrived at noon. No room was ready for 2 night stay. I went to their restaurant and spent 50 pounds for lunch to kill time. At 1:30, I lugged two suitcases myself up to room 202, a room that is about 3 meters squared a shoebox, not enough space for suitcases, let alone desk space to prepare for meetings (in one hr). I lugged suitcases back down, and courteously said that room won’t do. The clerk 10 min later gave me room 306 saying there is no superior room.... (price paid btw was 310 British pounds. I asked her directly if this second option, room 306 was bigger. She said yes. I lugged my suitcases (p.s. I am in my 50’s) back up to a room equal in size to 202. And lugged them back down. Said No this is same size, I need a business room with desk space. And called my office and office agency to cancel and find me a real hotel. Skip Mercure and check room size.
Lovely hotel, absolutely love the decor in the reception. Hotel staff were friendly and attentative to everything we needed. Room was lovely too! Breakfast was amazing and it’s within walking distance to many sites. Would love to come back!
Location of this hotel is good and the hotel is nicely appointed overall.
However the reception staff weren’t that helpful when taxis were hard to come by, and breakfast staff were rude with no explanation of where any foods were or what else I could order. I got the impression other breakfast guests felt the same.
Welcoming and friendly staff, clean and fresh rooms, and excellent eating and drinking areas with good quality food ensured a pleasant and relaxing stay. Less than 10 mins walk to several tube and the Thameslink lines and bus stops close to the door meant easy access to the main tourist areas.
