Following a five-year transformation by Foster + Partners, ME London opened its doors in December 2012 on the site of a former theater, music hall and BBC Radio HQ in the heart of London’s West End. Clad in traditional Portland stone and topped by a glass cupola (a souped up homage to an Edwardian domed roof that houses the penthouse suite), this hip hotel has been designed with party people in mind. Inside, sleek surfaces, black marble and white leather walls combine to create a masterpiece in monochrome; the crowning glory is an 80-foot cathedral-like atrium that pokes through to a see-and-be-seen rooftop bar.
Bed and Bath
Guestrooms are sleek and chic, with textured pewter wall panels and backlit shelves displaying boozy bottles from the minibar alongside cocktail shakers and martini glasses. All rooms are awash with high-end gadgetry: interactive TVs, mood lighting, surround sound and espresso machines, but the comfort factor shines through in the kingsize beds, deep pile carpets and pillow menus. Aura and Vibe Rooms provide comfy urban crash pads, and Energy Rooms showcase the city’s skyline from private balconies overlooking Covent Garden or the Thames. Bathrooms are equipped with twin sinks and mammoth rain showers and are stocked with such handy extras as organic cleansers from Apivita and hair straightners.
Guests have access to a dedicated “Aura Host,” a glamorous butler of sorts who is your go-to contact for guest list entry to London’s hippest haunts. Conveniently, two such hot spots are on-site: STK restaurant, a sceney DJ-helmed steakhouse-cum-bar (there are celeb-favored branches in NYC and L.A.), and Radio Rooftop Bar, a lounge with awesome views that span the Thames, from Canary Wharf to the Houses of Parliament. A prime position for a cocktail-fueled game of London landmark eye spy. You can also wine and dine at Cucina Asellina, an open-plan Italian kitchen that dishes up Sardinian classics, and the lobby-level Marconi, a laid-back lounge bar.
How to Get There
This was our first trip to London. The ME hotel was fabulous. We had a good size room with very comfortable king bed and walk in shower. Room was very quiet, we did not hear any neighboring rooms. Only sirens from an occasional emergency vehicle were barely heard.
Service was superb. Had turn down service with a chocolate daily. Front desk helped print out a school project for our daughter. Concierge was helpful. Had complementary champagne on checkin in the lobby. There is a roof top bar that has a great view of the city.
The location was excellent. Right next to the theater district, there were 3 major shows right across the street. It is about a 10 minute walk to Covent Gardens and Trafalgar Square. There are 2 other tube line stations in easy walking distance.
Would definitely stay again.
My husband booked this for our anniversary as we were eating at the Savoy. We arrived early and left our bags with the concierge on the ground floor - were told no need to collect, that when we checked in they would be brought to our room.
On checking in we were offered a glass of champagne and taken to our room where we were shown all the amenities in the room. A bottle of champagne, covered strawberries and lovely anniversary wishes written on the gloss wall. Fantastic view over the Thames from the 9th floor. We had drinks and breakfast at the rooftop bar and service matched that of the hotel staff. Central position, amazing building and fantastic staff - what’s not to recommend!
Good experience at a Spanish hotel in London great location and very friendly staff Roof bar is very trendy. Take advantage of Covent market also. Rooms are well designed and full with art ambience thnks
