Following a five-year transformation by Foster + Partners, ME London opened its doors in December 2012 on the site of a former theater, music hall and BBC Radio HQ in the heart of London’s West End. Clad in traditional Portland stone and topped by a glass cupola (a souped up homage to an Edwardian domed roof that houses the penthouse suite), this hip hotel has been designed with party people in mind. Inside, sleek surfaces, black marble and white leather walls combine to create a masterpiece in monochrome; the crowning glory is an 80-foot cathedral-like atrium that pokes through to a see-and-be-seen rooftop bar.
Bed and Bath
Guestrooms are sleek and chic, with textured pewter wall panels and backlit shelves displaying boozy bottles from the minibar alongside cocktail shakers and martini glasses. All rooms are awash with high-end gadgetry: interactive TVs, mood lighting, surround sound and espresso machines, but the comfort factor shines through in the kingsize beds, deep pile carpets and pillow menus. Aura and Vibe Rooms provide comfy urban crash pads, and Energy Rooms showcase the city’s skyline from private balconies overlooking Covent Garden or the Thames. Bathrooms are equipped with twin sinks and mammoth rain showers and are stocked with such handy extras as organic cleansers from Apivita and hair straightners.
Guests have access to a dedicated “Aura Host,” a glamorous butler of sorts who is your go-to contact for guest list entry to London’s hippest haunts. Conveniently, two such hot spots are on-site: STK restaurant, a sceney DJ-helmed steakhouse-cum-bar (there are celeb-favored branches in NYC and L.A.), and Radio Rooftop Bar, a lounge with awesome views that span the Thames, from Canary Wharf to the Houses of Parliament. A prime position for a cocktail-fueled game of London landmark eye spy. You can also wine and dine at Cucina Asellina, an open-plan Italian kitchen that dishes up Sardinian classics, and the lobby-level Marconi, a laid-back lounge bar.
How to Get There
Is there such a thing as a quiet room in London? An 8ft wide bed? Cava at check-in? Great staff who know how to make you feel special?
Answer: the ME hotel in the Strand.
We went for our anniversary as it is close but not too close to Covent Garden and the West End.
Lovely message on the bathroom mirror, champagne and strawberries in the bedroom and cava at reception and at our lunch at the rooftop bar (Radio Bar)
Anna who looks after guest relations was outstanding. Well done Melia Hotel.
Very modern room with unbelievable sound proofing.
If there were ten stars then ME would get them.
Perfectly done! It was an engagement celebration and the hotel did amazing!! Balloons, champagne and complimentary upgrade could not have been more perfect!
The radio rooftop staff are just a bit slow and not very attentive but everything else was perfect
Thank you so much!
A great hotel in very convenient location. Luxurious rooms and facilities. The rooftop radio bar for lunch was superb and the staff were really helpful in getting us an excellent table overlooking the city. We'd definitely recommend ME London and would stay here again in a heart beat.
The decor throughout the hotel is stunning! We loved the views from our balcony and from the rooftop bar. Sadly our first night was disappointing because our shower had no hot water which took 3 hours to fix, causing us to miss dinner reservations which the hotel didn’t really empathize with. But overall the stay was nice.
stay every year, never fails in excellence or service, stayed in the chic suite which is fabulous, very friendly staff, highly recommended. Valet parking was excellent, definitely visit the rooftop bar for breakfast, outstanding.
