How to Get There
Booked for the first jet lagged hazy days of a family holiday where we were coming in at different times. Easy taxi ride from Paddington if you take the Heathrow Express. Fantastic location, five minutes from Swiss Cottage tube. Also very close to Primrose Hill park and shops and a twenty minute walk to Camden.
Service was friendly and helpful. Rooms were enormous for London, two double beds, shower and reasonable sized bathroom. Fridge and kettle. Small balcony with door that opened for fresh air but also excellent black out curtains. Good storage. Our room was on the first floor, not my favourite but it was available early in another circumstance I’d have preferred a higher floor for quiet.
Staff were truly helpful. I would return.
[For context, I had booked a family room at the Hilton London Metropole and upon checking-in discovered the place was a complete dump... despite it being 8.30pm on a busy August evening, with 2 tired kids, cancelled on the spot and tried to book, in the taxi, at the Marriott Regents Park, the closest hotel to offer larger rooms at such last minute, only to be thwarted by a slow connection/system... so we arrived at the property with some trepidation...]
First impressions matter - whereas the Hilton Metropole had no visible bellboy to help guests, the Marriott Regents Park's efficient bellman sprung into action just as we stepped out of the cab... he sorted out our luggage and handed us some bottled water.
Bogdan in reception then tried to replicate the booking I was attempting but could not locate the inventory in their system... it was almost 9pm by then and tiredness started to kick-in for us - he immediately called super-efficient supervisor (not a honorific title, contrary to the Metropole) Clara whom sorted us out with a very modern, well-appointed room, perfect for a family of 4 (large king bed, large sofa-bed which the boys shared happily, table, desk, well-appointed bathroom with both a shower and a bath - on 6th floor so very quiet). Price was comparable to the Hilton we had just fled from and service and room incomparable in quality.
The restaurant is perfectly fine for a simple meal - of note is their very serious policy for guests with allergies - orders can only be taken by the manager. Whilst this adds a few minutes to the order-taking process, it also provides a much higher level of awareness and focus for the kitchen and service staff. Very commendable and well thought-out.
A couple of things I'd review: breakfast was good but seemed unnecessarily chaotic... the dining room is small enough to be easy to manage and the issue seems to do with staff not sufficiently well-briefed and a weird disposition for the various buffet tables - would review the flow of the room. Check-out was very slow - the lone staff there was just too slow to manage a single couple checking-out.
These smaller points aside, this is a truly excellent hotel for family stays - close to all attractions (Swiss Cottage tube walking distance) but also quiet enough to make for a pleasant city stay.
Would return and certainly would recommend.
The room was quite small for four people but it had some modern updates. The bathroom was also small. It had a decent lounge area. It is located conveniently to the underground. It is in a quiet neighborhood.
