Not off to a great start...

We arrived in London this morning and went to the hotel to check in. We had called yesterday to ask about an early check in since we would be arriving so early and they had confirmed it would be no issue. We even checked in on the mobile app and said we would be checking in at 11am. Arriving at the hotel around 10am, they mentioned they didn’t have any open rooms but would put us on a priority list.. it is now 5 1/2 hours later and we have still yet to be in a room. We’ve gone up to the front desk multiple times to check and each time we’ve been told we are high on the priority list and they will call us shortly. We have seen many families check in and get rooms and they have checked in hours after we started the process.. We are both gold elite status and have stayed over 300 nights at Marriott.. not a great impression on how they treat loyal customers. My initial impression, don’t stay here.. especially with the cost of $400/night.

We chose this hotel for it's location and could not have been more pleased. A Tube stop is less than 2 blocks away so we could easily get around. But the unknown was how friendly and attentive the staff was. Starting with Newton and Manuel, the Bell Captains, we were always taken care off. Newton saluted me every day and called my wife "Your Highness". The front desk staff took great care of anything that we needed. The Lounge where breakfast was available was another unexpected delight. Everything was so well organized and Connie made sure that it stayed that way. We spent several nights in the Luggage Room bar and can highly recommend it as a place to relax after a long day. We were able to sample our favorite bourbon but Josh also gave us a lesson in Irish Whiskey. Just what I need - another thing to drink. But we loved it - actually came home and bought 1 of the whiskies that Josh had us taste. In short, this hotel can't be beat. Location, staff , accommodations - everything you could want in a hotel

Great location in central London, standard Marriott rooms

We stayed for two nights on each end of a week in the countryside. We've stayed at the JW Grosvenor House before (using points) and chose this one because it is a little less expensive. We used the Executive Lounge for breakfast and snacks and it was very convenient; the staff was very pleasant. The rooms are standard Marriott but smaller than US rooms (but that is true in most European hotels). The Fitness Center is also very small but has enough equipment for a workout.

It is a short walk to shopping and Tube stops and a longer walk to places like Picadilly and Trafalger Sq.

Good hotel but pricey, as is everything in London.
