How to Get There
I had booked this hotel for my partners 30th birthday as they had a sauna, and steam room we wanted to have a nice relaxing birthday weekend. The check in took ages for some reason not sure if new staff now that it has changed from the Grange.
The rooms window was level to a roof and level to the train platform in Fenchurch station so we couldn't open the curtains at all. The bed was just two single beds put together that we kept slipping in between. The room was advertised as having robes and slippers, which didn't and when requested it took over ten mins for the front desk to understand what a robe was and to bring them to the room.
The water in the sink struggled to go down the drain. The phone looked like its from 1980. And probably the most annoying thing was that i specifically booked to use the sauna and steam room, found on arrival that the sauna had planned refurb taking place. I had called the hotel a week prior to arrival to check both were still avail and they did not mention anything about the planned refurb, meaning we weren't able to use the sauna.
Just a bit disappointing as location is great, and having stayed in the St Pauls and Tower Bridge location when they were the Grange Hotel, where we had such a good time, this just really doesn't compare, esp for a 4 star hotel. Most likely wouldn't want to book again
I’m staying here for a week long business trip. From the chaotic experience of reception to the fact they have run out of bathroom products (actually, yes. Three days in and every morning I have to ring down for shampoo and shower gel and there has been no soap till this morning). From the ancient fixtures and fittings to the minibar that is awful and half-unstocked. It’s very expensive to stay here. The cleaning service costs a fortune. Although last night the receptionist came to my room and handed me back a bag of dirty clothes insisting they were cleaned. When I showed that is was just the bag of my sweaty crumpled up gym kit and some other clothes, they were again taken away. To where? I don’t know. I’d like them back and then to get out of this place. Absolutely grim
It was a great experience staying at this hotel! Wonderful service and facilities with amazing steam, sauna and aromatherapy rooms. Special thanks to Mr Faik who attended to me and my friend with politeness and even went the extra mile to help to change my old bank note (as I had been tied up with training during the opening hours of the Bank of England)!! Keep up the good work :)
The room itself was okay, but I was appalled by the service. I understand that the hotel is going through an acquisition but this should not impact the customers.
Upon asking for toiletries and water for the room, reception told us to call the different departments to request for the items ourselves. This is very unlike a so-claimed 4 star hotel standard. By right, the reception should be arranging to get these items sent to the room. Then on the second night, when I requested for water, I had to call 2 times before the water was actually sent to the room. Morning calls were not made, despite having gone down personally to request for one. And even had a random advertisement call early in the morning (not related to morning call).
Breakfast service was worse. Requested for Americano and poached eggs, which were not on the buffet spread but could be requested for, and the server just asked me to ask someone else as it was not his duty.. How is this the service of a 4 star hotel? He should be directing the person to me or help make the order on my behalf with the correct person. Selection of the buffet spread was not as big as claimed on the menu. So many items were missing, like smoked salmon and olive bread. The food served were also bad, like the eggs, sausages, baguettes, bacon.
Excellent service, excellent facilities and excellent staff. Spot the theme. A special mention for Yuri in the reception area and the staff in the bar and the forum restaurant at breakfast. Great location for work in the city and very close to Tower Hill underground station.
