Weekend layover in London
Reviewed 2 days ago

I stayed at the Doubletree over the weekend of 8th and 9th of February travelling from Amsterdam to Derby UK. I checked in late on Friday and went straight to the room for sleep. Room was spacious for UK terms and had a good size bathroom. Bed was comfortable and room was nice and dark as I slept in on Saturday morning. I chose this hotel because of it's location and close proximity to restaurants and pubs. I had lunch in the bar on Saturday and it was reasonable and quite good.

Fantastic stay - excellent service and friendly staff

I chose this hotel as it was close to mainline and underground station (Kings Cross / Angel) which would make getting around on a 3 day trip easy.

The trip was booked as a surprise for my Mums 80th birthday and I advised the hotel of this when booking. My sister and I wanted to make it a really unforgettable trip, so we planned lots of treats for her whilst we were staying. I booked a double queen bedded room with access to the executive lounge.

We all live in different parts of the country, so my sister and I arrived first at the hotel and needed to collect my mum from Kings Cross a bit later. We were far to early to check in, so the hotel gladly offered to keep our luggage safe in the luggage room until we could check in. When we had collected my mum, we were still a bit early and the room wasn’t ready. The receptionists (wish I’d taken a note of the names) kindly offered us access to to the executive lounge whilst we waited. As soon as the Reception staff saw my mum, they wished her a happy birthday which she was lovely.

I was keen for us to get to our room to get ready to go out as we had reservations at The Ritz for afternoon Tea. I checked again to see if the room was ready and was advised it would still be a few minutes as the hotel were arranging something for the room for my mum. When we got to the room, we were thrilled so see a beautiful plate of cakes/macaroons with happy 80th birthday written in chocolate and a vase of fresh flowers. A few minutes later room service arrived with a complimentary bottle of wine and glasses.

Throughout the stay all the staff at the hotel, from cleaners, bar staff, executive lounge, and especially reception were amazing. They made the stay really special, making my mum, myself and my sister feel welcome and at home.

When we checked out, again we were offered the luggage room so we could go shopping before getting our trains home.

Overall, the hotel and room was great and staff couldn’t do enough and I want to say a massive THANK YOU to the hotel and its staff. What a really great team. You should all be very proud.

Family Break

I stayed here with my wife and son. My wife works in London and we stayed here while she was on business.

My wife was able to check in online and get the room key sent to her phone. Great idea if reception is busy.

It is a short walk from Angel station which is handy for getting into central London.

The room (432) is spacious and had 2 double beds.

Breakfast was the usual choice of cooked buffet or continental, the hotel offers complimentary WiFi and has a bar which serves Costa coffee.

It is well placed in Islington and is close to many local shops etc and is a short walk away from a shopping centre.

Overall a good hotel

Convenient and quiet London location near Angel tube away from crowds

Stayed at Doubletree Islington due to location and value. Also trust the brand. Pleasant stay with great staff. Two minute walk to Angel tube stop made getting to main attractions in London very easy. Also nice retail and restaurant choices in Islington shopping district. Highly recommend.

Nice quiet hotel on the edge of the centre of London

Clean, tidy, comfortable and quiet for a hotel in this location. Very close to the Angel underground station and not so far to walk into the city/Soho and other areas of interest. Good links with buses and tube too. Reasonably priced and we'd be happy to go back again.
