We stayed at the DoubleTree Islington as a part of our London trip without Gate One Tours. We added 1 night at the beginning and 2 nights at the end. The hotel is under renovation. As long as the tour was booked we were fine. After the tour was over we experienced drilling and banging above our heads. It started at 8 am and was still going at 8 pm. I reported it to the hotel and was told to begin with that it wasn’t possible that the noise was construction. Hotel management went to check the 5th floor and called me to apologize. There was a subcontractor up there at 8 pm. They should not be using the rooms directly under the construction area.

The second issue was this is an expensive cab ride from multiple tourism sites. It is very close to the tube but we were two women alone in London and at times we just weren’t comfortable coming back to the hotel by train. It was $25 one way from Buckingham Palace. You have to factor that into the cost of the room.

Overall, it is clean and the staff is great. The breakfast is amazing and worth the additional cost. Some days we ate late and skipped lunch. That allowed us to get an afternoon tea. Who doesn’t love an afternoon English tea?!? Despite the cab cost I would have given them a superior rating if it wasn’t for the drilling and banging from construction.

Poor Customer Service - Noisy builders on site

Stayed for 3 nights 13-15 April. At no time during our booking, after our booking or at check in were we warned that it was being refurbished. We had builders noise (Drilling into concrete) on the 3rd floor from 8.45am until late afternoon. When we complained they shrugged their shoulders and offered a complimentary breakfast on the last day. After we came back home we get an apology, too late DT way too late.
We paid a premium price for a second class stay and awful customer service. Their are too many other hotels in London who want our custom, get a grip DT train your staff correctly.
PS: The hotel does need refurbishing as our room was dirty, tired and bland. Stained bath sealant, tiles loose, peeling wallpaper and dull colours. However, the new scheme is going to be in bright cheerful brown with grey carpet! Dull, Dull, Dull, Dull!

Room was dull, dark but practical. Could have done with a suitcase stand. Everything worked.

The landing on our floor looked as though they were throwing out all the contents of some of the bedrooms. 3 mattresses there on the first day and old linens on the second day. Did not look good.

The location was good. Loads of good places to eat outside and good shops. Underground nearby and buses.

I stayed in this hotel due to a mistake at booking (I normally stay at Hilton London Islington, not to be confused with the Double Tree by Hilton Islington). This hotel is rather average and does not meet the superior standards of the Hilton Islington. Really and average hotel. Breakfast was rather average as well.

So I stayed here with my family for 4 nights. I can say that it was a nice hotel. It was close to angel station, like 7-8 minute walk. I can warn you about something, the rooms are not big as they seem to be at the photos. I can never solve it but hotels can do show the rooms bigger somehow. Other than that breakfast was nice, but if you do not want to spend money for the meals then when you make a reservation, I recommend you to get an access to lounge, it is not that fancy but it both gives breakfast and little dinner. Other than these the hotel was clean. Also, I like the fact that they give cookies at the reception when you first check in. And there are lots of places to eat around the hotel. There is even a dominos right around the corner, so that is nice. With underground you can go this hotel in 40-50 minutes from Heathrow.
