How to Get There
I’ve stayed at a lot of DoubleTree Hotels and this is the nicest one I’ve been in, clean and modern, very helpful staff and convenient to the Underground and ExCel center. The restaurant is probably one of the best restaurants in a Hilton property as well, seems extremely well run.
Great location if you are attending an event at Excel in London. Wlaking distance from London City airport (20 min). The hotel does not offer shutle bus. The personal at reception was nice except for one lady that refused to start the registration procedure because the room was not ready. The recption provided cookies that are very good. The sixe of the rooms are OK and rooms are clean. Decoration not very modern. Views from the room to a railway, airport, water and highway but quiet. I did not have breakfast but I had a great capuccino. Definitely will go back when visiting Excel.
Flew over to London to be able to attend a good mate’s wedding. Therefore only used the hotel for sleeping accommodation and around the area where I had to be. Not sure if I would use this hotel in order to explore London if it was my first. Mind you there isn’t a lot in the area expect for the convention center and order chain hotels.
Never the less the DLR Prince Regent (bus) station is within a few minutes’ walk and provides great access to the city. Also it has the convenience of being very close by the London city airport which has limited operational time during the weekend. I also enjoyed having our room at the riverside, which gave us a superb view of the powerboat racing that was being held during our weekend stay.
Our room was tidy and clean. Water kettle with teabags were on site. Did miss having a little fridge.
Only used this the gym facility this morning which can provide you a proper workout. The surrounding area provided plenty of walkway for jogging.
Found the interaction with the staff to be professional, genuine and courteous.
Would stay here again if I need to be in the area.
Was attending a conference at the Excel so this was convenient for that, but nothing else. The conference that I was attending was on the East side of the Excel so this was convenient for that. Was a short walk across a parking lot to get there. The Aloft was directly next door to the Excel, so check that out as well if you need to be there. The hotel itself was decent, nothing to get too excited about, but clean and comfortable. My room had a balcony that overlooked the Thames, but the door to it was locked and I was told I had to sign a waiver to get the key (what?). Bathroom was a great size with a good size shower, but really bad lighting. You could hear the airplanes taking off and landing, but they stopped and started at dusk and dawn so not too bothersome. Some taxi and Uber drivers didn't know where this was, so beware. About a 20-30 minute drive to Shoreditch/Liverpool Street area, less than 15 to Canary Wharf. Hour and a half in public transport from Paddington.
Found this hotel on secret escapes and although it isn't located in the heart of London, it was an area we have never visited so thought we'd give it a try. It's just a 20 minute train ride from the centre of London and is in a quiet semi industrial area on the banks of the Thames. Check in was good and warm choc chip cookie was very much appreciated! The rooms are very clean and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. A kettle with coffee, tea, sugar (no noisy, difficult to work out how to use coffee machine!) ironing board and iron, and usb sockets by the bedside.
We went for a lovely walk on the banks of the Thames and took the Emirates cable car to the O2 where we had lunch. We then took the boat to Greenwich and spent a lovely afternoon in the garden of gypsy moth pub, which overlooks the area around the Cutty Sark.
The area near the hotel is fairly quiet and there's not much in the way of restaurants and pubs in the immediate vicinity but why bother venturing out? We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent! The food was first class and restaurant area was fresh, modern and very comfortable. I had the 'salt beef' and my husband had the 'rogan josh lamb shank' Both dishes were so tasty that we swapped plates half way through our meals! The hotel was so quiet, not sure that it was at full capacity for a weekend, but the upshot of this was at we slept in til 10.30! No problem though as breakfast was served til. 11.30. A perfect end to a perfect stay.
