How to Get There
This is my preferred Hotel when working in the are purely due to convenience of location and access into work. Hotel looks well presented & clean but although fairly modern I always feel a little disappointed with any Hilton chain. I just think it’s just doesn’t get it customers needs right. It’s always the little things that defines a really good Hotel and just a bulk standard. Sadly in my opinion this is the latter of the two.
I do enjoy the free warm cookie as an Honours Member at check in, but the room has no biscuits with the tea and coffee.
Room also has no USB ports in the sockets
Minimum Freeview channels ie 22 channels
Bar doesn’t offer nibbles. When asked for some was shown 2 packets of crisps to buy.
I always feel this makes the chain come across a bit cheap compared to some of its rivals.
Now for some positives, Staff are very pleasant, Breakfast Buffett well stocked and always looking fresh. Ordered poached eggs and they arrived in very good time and cooked very well.
Rung up at 11pm for room service, was told none of the hot food was available only cold sandwiches. Asked about local take-aways, was told to Google it. You expect this from cheaper brands of hotel. Looks like i'll have to get a cold sandwich as Google isn't showing much in the area.
As a fan of doubletree we were looking forward to our stay here.
The hotel is situated a good 30 minutes train from the centre so guests should be prepared for this.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the DLR.
On checking in the welcome was lukewarm and no real indication made of our HHonors membership.
Our room was average for London with not a lot of room but a clear view of the runway at London City airport. The noise from the planes was bearable but the bed not too comfortable. The warm cookies were nice but the wifi kept dropping out.
The bathroom was ok and the shower ok too and the room was clean.
Breakfast in the morning was good as long as you have negotiated a bed and breakfast rate.
It was an average stay but I would rather pay a bit more and stay near the centre.
Hotel is on walking distance from the airport. Took 15mins to get there. Hotel room is clean and spacious. View on the river is ok, breakfast is fine, there is a continental and an English breakfast to pick from
Surprised by all the good reviews. This hotel is listed as a 4-star and it is not. It is located at the far end (East Entrance) of the Excel complex - away from the other hotels and the restaurants. I found the room to be outdated (looks like they tried to renovate it but not very well done). Bathroom is very small and the shower is almost impossible to turn on. The restaurant is definitely a breakfast-only kind of place (wouldn't eat dinner there). The location is inconvenient as it's on a one-way road behind Excel and taxis have to make a complete loop to get out of there. It's much quicker to walk to Excel and the restaurant/shopping area if weather permits. BTW, I paid for an 'upgraded' king room with view of the river and it wasn't worth the extra money.
