but if you want to have fresh air in your hotel room or an unimpeded good nights sleep... well this is probably not the best choice. you cannot open the windows to get some fresh air in and the air condition is, even if it is switched off in your room, still so noisy that it is molesting.
There are rooms with windows that open and even rooms with a balcony. But you should specifically ask for it.
Unfortunatey rooms with balcony are directed to the parking lot and the adjecting railway. so make sure younget a room with waterfront view AND window if you prefer fresh air at night.
however, again: staff is very friendly and helpful
If you are attending a conference at Excel you cannot do better than this hotel as it is literally across the road. Also very useful if you are flying into City Airport, as it is only 5 minutes walk down. Great rooms, service, good bar, and a workout room.
Hotel generally ok. However I was VERY VERY MIFFED at the fact that many menu items in both the restaurant and bar were unavailable throughout our 4 day stay. Despite complaining to the Maitre d' this was not resolved. consequently we chose to eat elsewhere
This is a very nice hotel and excellent location to ExCel. The staff are fantastic, and the digital key experience is solid, albeit I did have a few challenges and had to restart bluetooth a couple of times. The internet was mixed. It kept asking for my e-mail address, which was odd, so I just went premium which as a silver member wasn't free (even though at other Doubletree hotels in London - they sometimes give it to you free). Anyway, it was fast no issues. The room is solid for business customers, such as myself, but it would be nice to have more USB ports. The food was well, let's just say get the chicken because it is good. The steaks are disgusting. I had a Ribeye in the hotel restaurant, and it was 30 pounds or about $50 USD. There is no way that was high quality meat. Seriously, it was about the quality you would get at a Sizzler in the states or some place that sells meat for 10 pounds in the UK. For folks going to ExCel it is about a seven minute walk, and easy to do. You will HEAR planes flying into London city Airport (thus soundproofing is really needed or if they have it, upgrade it). Planes fly into the airport till 10 p.m. So if you are an early to bed kind of person, uh, you won't be there.
My partner and I stayed here recently, only for a single night. It had been a gift to us, paid for by his family as we were attending a event at the excel. As lovely as the hotel looked, the staff did little to accommodate us. We felt very out of place and we definitely looked down upon. Nothing was explained to us, we were just expected to do as they say and give them money for extras we weren't aware of. We had little interaction with staff after that point and none appeared to be willing to provide good customer service. For an upper class hotel, I could have experienced better all round service and room comfort from the premier inn across the road.
