How to Get There
It is not a classic hotel but more of an apartment rental property, but you have 24hours reception and daily cleaning. The inner garden (which we couldn't see from our apartment) is lovely. Our 2 bedroom apartment was in fact two apartments united - the one facing the inner yard was nicer than the other one. We would definitely consider this place again when we visit London the next time.
We've been here many times before and it therefore has a nice safe tinge of familiarity to it, but I'm not sure we'll be hurrying back. We booked a studio for one night, and the room was a good size, as was the bathroom. The kitchen was literally a fridge and a cupboard with a kettle and microwave. Mugs but no teaspoons. I don't have any great gripe, just a series of little ones which add up to a feeling that management don't especially care. The room was perfectly clean, I'll give it that (apart from the stains on the carpet), but the pillows were as hard as stale old weetabix. Someone had clearly thought a dressing table needed to be provided, but it was too big, sticking over the door into the bathroom, and on the other side to the kitchenette. And there was a hair drier but no mirror - I had to dry my hair kneeling on the floor, and using the door of the microwave to see what I was doing. Really Dolphin Square, you could do better than that.
We booked this stay through Bookings.com as accommodation for 2 adults and a 12 year old child for 4 nights at a cost of over £900. We preferred an apartment rather than 2 hotel rooms so that we had a sitting room and small kitchen to make a more homely environment for our grandson in the evenings after busy days sightseeing. The apartment was a high standard of decoration, well furnished but we were disappointed that only a sofa bed was provided for our grandson. We would have preferred a separate bed to have been made up in the roomy lounge, and this is what I understood would be provided when booking, but I was told this would be an extra £200 charge, quite extortionate.
There is a small kitchen with basic kitchenware but although there were 3 of us, only 2 plates, bowls, cutlery etc were provided. Also, it would be appreciated to have a “kitchen pack” of jiffy cloth, tea towel, kitchen roll, small amount of washing up liquid. This is provided at almost every apartment we’ve rented and is so helpful. Much more so than the bathroom toiletries which almost everyone leaves behind.
We were looking forward to using the swimming pool but it bars under 18s after 5pm. Please review this as it meant we didn’t get to use the pool at all, and there was no reason well behaved over 12s shouldn’t be there.
The welcome wasn’t particularly friendly, even with 3 staff at the desk, functional and businesslike. Unsure if I would stay again.
