There are a lot of things to like about Dolphin House but ultimately we won't return. The hotel was recommended to us by friends. He had spent a year working in London and had found it very convenient. However, I feel the experience depends on the room you get.

We stayed 8 nights - April 30, 2018 to May 4 and May 8 to May 12. We had different rooms.

I'll start with the positives. First the price. We paid around $190 Canadian per night which was considerably cheaper than other hotels, especially the more central ones. Be warned though that the prices can vary a great deal, so check numerous times. If you book directly with the hotel they include breakfast, if you book through a third party, they don't.

Second the location. It is not in a prime location but Pimlico is still close to many things and is within walking distance of the Tate Gallery. The hotel is very close to the Pimlico Tube Station on the Victoria Line and there a number of buses close by including the 24 and the C10. The 24 takes you to Trafalgar Square and beyond. Pimlico is a real neighbourhood and is a nice retreat from central London. St. George's Square is close by, so is the Thames and there is an arcade with shopping as part of the complex.

The service in the hotel is top notch. They handled all our requests quickly, efficiently and amiably. Our only complaint (unfortunately it's a significant one) is that on the night of our departure we asked for a wake up call which never came. Luckily I also set an alarm on my phone or we would have missed our plane. They couldn't explain why it happened. we are on the computer and it should have happened automatically. They were very apologetic.

We chose the Dolphin House because we were told it was a housekeeping apartment. This is true, but the facilities vary by room. I suspect the one bedrooms have a full kitchen, we only had a microwave and a small fridge. The first fridge had a small freezer the second did not. Some units have in-suite laundry.

There is a laundry room in the basement for guests. The machines are new and everything is clean. Be warned however that the dryers do not vent outside and can take a very long time. By long time, I mean three hours plus. Even then you may be drying your clothes in your room. We solved this the second time by splitting our washing into a number of available dryers (there are 4). I would go down occasionally to make sure no one else needed one.

The furnishings are good - nothing elegant but practical and the bed (a king size) is wonderful. The furniture wardrobe in the first suite was great. The built in wardrobe of the second suite was not as good but okay. The second suite in the fifth floor (508?) was considerably larger and had a much better bathroom design (see below). There was a broken table and they replaced it immediately.

So why won't we return? The first suite had a fatal problem. It was suite 321 I believe. The design of the bathroom is a bit unique. It has a long and deep tub with a shower in it which is pretty good for a London hotel. But the toilet is stuck in a very tiny space at the end. Meaning you need to keep your knees together unless you're a child. Let's just say it's a bit awkward to do the paper work.

The second suite was certainly better but it too had a problem. The fist suite faced an interior courtyard and was very quiet. The second suite faced Chichester Street and was noisy. There are football facilities close by - we call them soccer - and there are multiple games. They seem to end around 9:00 but those continues until around 9:30. After that, it was usually quiet. This may not be a problem for those going out in the evening, but we were exhausted from sight seeing and just wanted to relax. On the last night of our stay - a Friday night - it was very noisy - motorcycles on Chichester Street, drunks outside arguing, lots of things happening.

There is a pool and a spa, but we never used the facilities.

To sum up, this is a wonderful hotel with some caveats. If you stay there, I would advice to carefully select the room. You may want to book a one bedroom suite and make sure you face the courtyard.

London Marathon Weekend

Excellent accommodation. Our kitchen did smell of cigarette smoke but when reported maintenance/cleaning was sent to help with the situation. Obviously previous guest had been smoking even though strict rules prohibited this. Management dealt with it immediately. Very helpful front desk. Perfect location. booked already for next years marathon.

My parents in law, husband and I stayed here while visiting from Australia. Very stylish buildings. We were warmly welcomed on check in. Great facilities including a pool. Short walk to the shops and to Pimlico Station and we even walked into London one day. Kitchen facilities were great. Bed very comfortable and bath was very relaxing. Would defiantly stay here again.
