Buzzy social hubs and rooms furnished by Vitra make up this sleek design hotel on London's South Bank

The Look

Designed by award-winning Dutch architects Concrete, with furnishings courtesy of Vitra and Panton, citizenM Bankside offers designer digs on London’s South Bank. Standout pieces include Jasper Morrison’s sculptural cream leather bucket seats, Frank Gehry’s corrugated cardboard “wigglestool” and an Eames lounge chair. Stuffed with curios and books from around the globe, the lobby-cum-work-hub-cum-bar feels like the spacious living room of a seriously well-traveled friend, from the mini replicas of the Eiffel Tower to the New York license plates to the Russian dolls. Upstairs, corridors to the bedrooms are printed with large Google map–style images, and walls are dotted with inspiring quotes.

Bed and Bath

There are 192 space-efficient guestrooms kitted out with Vitra furniture, wall-to-wall windows and super-kingsize beds clad in Frette linens. They’re petite, at 172 square feet, but citizenM has put some serious thought into providing for the modern traveler, from the tiny bathroom pods, which have no-nonsense power showers, to the international electrical outlets at the minidesk to the Samsung tablet–controlled mood lighting, movies on demand, and the handy ironing room on each floor.

canteenM is open 24/7 for light bites. Local eateries provide the food, from a full English breakfast in the morning to sushi, sandwiches and hot meals throughout the day. Dining or not, the diverse lounge is the life and soul of the place — lively enough for cocktails in the evening but quiet enough to read and work, too. Inspired by the design? There’s an online bookstore to browse the latest art, architecture and fashion tomes.

No large glasses of tap water "because we sell water"
Reviewed 14 hours ago

The Citizen M lobby appears to be a welcoming space, however their rules around water are baffling. On a hot June day I was refused a glass any larger than around 70ml because the hotel cafe 'sells bottled water'. The water I received was also warm.

Thoroughly bizarre policy that has frankly put me off visiting the hotel again.

Chic, modern hotel with great staff

This great hotel is a great location to stay when exploring London. It is located within easy walking distance from the subway/tube. Great restaurants in the area, as well. The rooms are quite small but very efficiently arranged and furnished. We enjoyed the "living room" concept that replaces the typical lobby. For breakfast, there are numerous options for as much or as little food as you want. Upon the suggestion of one of the staff, we visited the top floor bar of the CitizenM Tower of London when we visited the Tower. Great views!

Thank you,

“The staff had great communication, they actually take the time to speak to you and give you the time of day.
The garden/sitting area in the middle of the hotel was great to go out and get fresh air without having to essentially leave the hotel.
The whole ground floor was great to sit and relax at because its spacious and feels homey even if it may be busy at times. The decor gives the space a fresh and interesting look/feel.
The breakfast was also really good, the food was fresh and allowed for more healthier options rather than your typical fry up. The freshly made fruit juices were also a nice touch.”

Great location with an M&S literally opposite. 7 min walk to Southwark tube. Great stay friendly staff & excellent housekeeping. Rooms are small and compact with everything you need and great if you’re out most of the time. The beds are huge and very comfy. Free movies on the tv - so good not to be charged. The oat milk lattes were AMAZING at the bar. Nice comfortable lounge areas to chill/work. Definitely recommended. Only negative is the rooms do get really warm. We had a fan sent up straight away. The room is controlled by an iPad which has different light settings/modes which are fun!

The place I stay in London

A very nice, modern place in the centre of London. Rooms are clean and functional with everything you need. They are well thought and space is optimized. I also like the decoration of the common places and the atrium.
