Designed by award-winning Dutch architects Concrete, with furnishings courtesy of Vitra and Panton, citizenM Bankside offers designer digs on London’s South Bank. Standout pieces include Jasper Morrison’s sculptural cream leather bucket seats, Frank Gehry’s corrugated cardboard “wigglestool” and an Eames lounge chair. Stuffed with curios and books from around the globe, the lobby-cum-work-hub-cum-bar feels like the spacious living room of a seriously well-traveled friend, from the mini replicas of the Eiffel Tower to the New York license plates to the Russian dolls. Upstairs, corridors to the bedrooms are printed with large Google map–style images, and walls are dotted with inspiring quotes.
Bed and Bath
There are 192 space-efficient guestrooms kitted out with Vitra furniture, wall-to-wall windows and super-kingsize beds clad in Frette linens. They’re petite, at 172 square feet, but citizenM has put some serious thought into providing for the modern traveler, from the tiny bathroom pods, which have no-nonsense power showers, to the international electrical outlets at the minidesk to the Samsung tablet–controlled mood lighting, movies on demand, and the handy ironing room on each floor.
canteenM is open 24/7 for light bites. Local eateries provide the food, from a full English breakfast in the morning to sushi, sandwiches and hot meals throughout the day. Dining or not, the diverse lounge is the life and soul of the place — lively enough for cocktails in the evening but quiet enough to read and work, too. Inspired by the design? There’s an online bookstore to browse the latest art, architecture and fashion tomes.
How to Get There
Very compact room offered at an extremely high price (extra charge for breakfast - must be included in the price)!
The area around the hotel is very beautiful, with many options within walking distance.
Stayed for one night after visiting the theatre. Really quirky interior. Bathroom like a wet room not a lot of huge storage and sink is in the room. However, if you want a quirky almost space age room where all the room is controlled from an iPad (TV, lights, binds) then this is the stay for you. Bed is huge and really comfortable. Location excellent for the city located on the south bank. Also get a huge array of modern films as standard. Ambinance in the bar in the evening was very good although the cocktails were quite poor in taste. Great little stay.
We have been visiting London for the last four years to visit my daughters. So I have been around different areas and hotels.
This time I decided to get something close to Southwark Underground and I am glad I choose Citizen M.
The check-in on line and the checkout are extremely efficient.
Young, friendly and enthusiastic personnel.
Nice ambiance and decor. Rooms are just what you need. Small but comfortable and cozy.
Location unbeatable. Far from crowded tourist areas, yet near Tate Modern and Borough Market. Nice pubs and restaurants.
They have Hotels in other countries and they will be my option in London and wherever they might have a branch.
I am just a new Citizen.
We had read reviews of citizenm bankside and were not disappointed. Great location for Southbank and Borough Market and all they have to offer. The hotel itself is funky and we loved the concept of I pads controlling the room. Our room was fab with a huge bed which was so comfy the shower was excellent and we had a top floor room facing the courtyard which enabled a great nights sleep. Our 3 nights there was fantastic we'll definitely be back
Stayed 1 night to take my granddaughter to Katy Perry at the O2. Automated check in was quick and seamless with a couple of people on hand to assist. Room was quiet and huge bed was super comfortable. ALL staff were super friendly and engaging and went out of their way to go that little bit further which makes such a difference. Great location for wandering the South Bank or catching the Clipper to Greenwhich and the O2. So much quicker easier and more pleasant than the tube!!
