So not Cheval, 2 star property at 5 star prices

I booked a "Superior" one bedroom apartment because the website said they offered more comfort and a quiet courtyard view and balcony. The reality was rather different. The property is right above a tube line, so every 2 minutes you are shaken awake by the vibration and noise of a tube passing underneath. The balcony and view are truly depressing, more of a fire escape with no sight of the sky, just grey sooty walls and barbed wire, something from a Dikensian prison and that is the only window from the living area. There is no TV in the bedroom, really at £350 per night ? The furniture is old, with multiple wine and coffee stains. The settee uncomfortable and rickety. The apartment had a smell of curry, I am not sure if this was from a previous or adjacent guest. Too tired to change hotels (and I had prepaid). Concierge was very helpful. I have stayed in several Cheval properties and was a fan, they should definitely have a different brand for this property.

Ideal location, luxury details

The property is a few steps from South Kensington tube station and several bus stops which connect you to the city. No breakfast (there is no bar or restaurant in the property) but the neighbourhood has coffeehouses, restaurants, Pret-à-Mangers, Tesco, Waitrose and what not. The details are luxurious: you will find complimentary breakfast items in the fridge (full on: milk, water, eggs, butter, cheese, fruit) and coffee and cookies, so if you do not have the time to go get some groceries, you're set for the night or early morning. Heating went off on my last night, but reception provided an individual heater and were very attentive that this was not a problem. The individual room is more a room than an apartment, but the kitchenette has everything you need and the bathroom as well. It felt truly satisfying. Robes and slippers were also provided. I would recommend it for the business traveller, and a bigger room if travelling with family. I asked for a courtyard room to avoid the street noise - but I am very sensitive to noises. All in all, a great stay.
