How to Get There
Staff were friendly and helpful, room was lovely and spacious and bed was comfy. Unfortunately there was constant noise from the street outside all through the night until 5am which made it impossible to sleep at all. If you are planning a stay here, ask for a quiet room.
We did not stay at the hotel but had a classical high tea that was just so great !!!
The scones were the most delicious I ever had.
The view on the National Gallery is a +.
The staff is exceptional.
The only problem : we had booked by phone and though we had given : name, phone number and mail adress there was no trace of our booking. Then we had to wait 30 mn between the order and when the tray arrived. Quite long but soon forgotten as it was so delicious.
Based on other reviews, my wife, 14-year old daughter and I stayed here for 10 nights on our London vacation. It was outstanding in all respects. First, location; on top of Charing Cross Sta, it had easy access to 2 Tube stops (Charing Cross & Embankment), close-by to a walking bridge across the Thames & a river ferry. And lastly, an easy walk to many of the things a tourist would want to visit (Covent Garden, National Gallery, Trafalgar Sq, South Bank, London Eye, Parliament, Westminster Abbey et al). The hotel itself was sparkling with all the amenities described in these reviews & on their website. The breakfast was included with our executive level room & it was a huge advantage to start the day without having to go out. Everyone else thought so too, as It was crowded but never more than a few minutes wait. The food was very good, however, we didn't eat lunch or dinner there. Lastly, the staff is what really puts them over the top. Every employee in the lobby is at your service and looks you in the eye with a smile and a greeting. It gives a lot of assurance that you have a resource that will help with any question or issue you may have. In particular, I commend Maria, who is a guest relations manager. She really made us feel welcome right from the moment we dragged ourselves in at 9 am from our US flight. Throughout our stay we felt like we had a good friend in London to rely on. We had no problem with street or station noise and were on the 5th floor, facing the Thames. Low floors facing the front might be noisier but I'm not certain of that. One tip; the Heathrow Express train is a great way to get from the airport to Paddington Sta but then maneuvering through the tube station with a lot of baggage can be difficult. We had to haul them up some steps in the station, during rush-hour. It could be worthwhile to pay the expense of a taxi from Paddington to Charing Cross if you're in that situation. Finally, besides walking, the Tube is a great way to get around and downloading one of the many free Tube apps available will make your life a lot easier. That & an Oyster Card.
It is only a personal opinion of how i think a 4 star hotel should be and there is nothing i do not like about this hotel. It is very clean with great customer service and a superb concierge service. It has a great location, a bar/restaurant that has good food, draught beer, big selection of wines by the glass, an ampule spirit selection and a free flowing supply of nibbles as soon as you are served. Breakfast is a very high standard and from the croissants to the bacon is a very good quality. Although i booked an executive room this time i know from previous visits that the rooms are spacious, comfortable and has proper coffee machines and tea and biscuits. Some of the 4 and 5 star hotels i have previously staid at can learn a lot from this hotel.
A very small point but, for the healthier ones amongst us (me not included), the fresh fruit selection at breakfast could be a little bigger.
Location location location is key! Great size room. Comfy beds. Traveled with my daughters and a lot of luggage. New bathroom and showers. Very clean and cozy. Centrally located right by Trafalgar Square. I’d stay here again over the bigger named hotels. The concierge especially Jurgent are so helpful and kind! Thank you for a great experience. See you next time!
