Surprisingly good Hotel, easy commute to the City via the DLR

Nice modern hotel, right next to the Excel conference center and the DLR, so good connections to the City, Canary Wharf or City airport.
Because of it's location there's not much to do around there, but the hotel has a Bar, Restaurant and a small convenience shop (which is reasonably priced for a Hotel).
Rooms are modern and quite roomy, good bed/pillows, decent TV, air-con is good, shower has plenty of hot water, good to see power sockets next to the Bed 👍. The hotel has a nice relaxed feel about it, well worth a stay.

I was attending a conference next door (at Excel) and picked the hotel because of the location. But it was really nice. Large rooms, comfortable beds, easy access to public transport (DLR is literally next door), and no ambient sound. On top of that, they had most of the little things thought of. Decent laundry, pool, gym, etc. If I was flying into City airport for work, I would stay here again.

I selected this hotel because of its proximity to London City Airport. The person on the front desk told us it was 20 minutes away. (It was 5!). The room was dark. Minimal amenities but fairly typical of Aloft. We asked for the same front desk person to reserve a cab for the next morning. We are convinced this wasn't from a legitimate company as he drove poorly, didn't accept credit cards, could not believe we didn't have Pounds and overall seemed unseemly.

Very nice hotel in excellent location if attending the Excel arena or the O2. Train station beside the hotel. Breakfast expensive but there is a choice of locations within a few minutes from hotel. Room excellent. Pool nice. Staff very friendly

Ridiculously slow check in and out & embarrassingly misogynist attitude for 21st century

This is the second time I've stayed here and there was little improvement on the first time, if anything, slightly worse. The check-in is again the most painfully slow, most unprofessional process I have seen in a large hotel. Unable to take a credit card as security by electronic means I had to leave details on a badly photocopied piece of paper, it hardly inspired confidence. To top it all, even though myself and my partner were both booked in the room, I was leaving the credit card and was the one checking in they asked my male partner to sign in, leaving me feel like I was a 2nd class citizen! I was left feeling embarrassed and sidelined not a good start! The rooms were OK although bathroom cleanliness was not brilliant. Check out was delayed because one staff member was also operating a coffee machine. The restaurant seemed to have run out of most wines on its limited list. This is a modern hotel next to a busy airport with plenty of business guests but seriously needs to buck its ideas up. It feels like the staff are all expecting to be made redundant and no longer care.
