How to Get There
With all the hotels in London - this one is average , and recommend NOT TO STAY THERE unless you need to attend Excel! It’s just too far from central London, and inconvenient - plus you feel a little trapped as there’s nothing to do outside the hotel... as a matter of fact, the hotel is the happening place!
Again, stay here only if you are attending the Excel - In that case, it’s probably the best around - as the other hotels in the area look horrendous - everything is relative... and that’s why the four stars rating- as travellers looking there need to know it’s decent.
Although my title sums up this review please allow me to write a reason.
At a incredibly competitive price compared to other London Hotels, choosing to stay at the Aloft London Excel was a no brainer for both me and my girlfriend. We have stayed in London a couple times now and payed a lot more and over the odds for budget Hotels... Compared to the Aloft, I now feel robbed. Fantastic!
My girlfriend booked the hotel for a surprise for our 3 year anniversary as we were going to see Aladdin. The Hotel were made aware of this and much to my surprise when checking in I walked into a suite opposed to a room, with a Congratulations Note from the Manager (Denise), complimentary drinks and popcorn ect. I was gobsmacked at this gesture as it was completely un expected and un necessary however greatly greatly appreciated.
The Room was faultless from the views over the Excel, River Thames, to the cleanliness and facilities, security, comfiness and just felt genuinely like a 'PROPER' decent Hotel.
I didn't get the opportunity to use the Pool ect due to being surprised by the stay in general but it looked amazing, in the evening we had drinks at the WXYZ bar and a few games of Pool (Free Pool Table).
Breakfast at the Docklands Restaurant was... VERY FILLING. Buffet with great tasting food ranging from traditional full english to a lighter continental option with fresh Ham, Cheese, Cereals and fruits. Very clean restaraunt and friendly staff.
The Staff I would also like to add were tremendously friendly, helpful, happy and professional. I genuinely appreciate when staff enjoy there work and have a clear passion for it by wanting to help as opposed to just getting it done because they have to kind of thing. So for this I thank you again.
Overall I think we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Aloft London Excel and extremely Thankful for our stay. I will highly recommend your establishment and will certainly visit again with a future London stay.
Thank you, Stephen and Chelsie.
Closest hotel, and it’s clean and Modern. The easy choice. Only things you might miss is a tub, ours was shower only, but it was big and nice. Rooms are arranged quite efficiently with lots of built ins and a mini fridge.
First stay here, one night only and generally impressed. Rooms are comfortable, good beds, TV decent size good decor and quiet.
Scrambled egg at breakfast was superb, best ever! Coffee however is awful and to be avoided at all costs; a choice of some quality coffee would have been nice. Three out of four coffee dispensers weren't even working!
Most definitely making this my default hotel for London, looking forward to returning next week.
Booked this hotel as part of a super break trip. Arrived at the hotel at checking on time and was told we would need to speak to the manager. When he eventually came to talk to us he told us that they had over booked and did not have a room for us and he would try to find us another hotel. I explained that we had chosen this hotel as we were going to the O2. He told us he was trying to book another hotel 4 miles away. We sat in reception watching other people check in with no problem. After about 45 minutes he came back and told us he could not find another hotel and mysteriously he had found us a room in the hotel. He offered to pay for our taxi to the O2 as an apology. The room was lovely and so was breakfast but the whole experience was upsetting and I would certainly not book this hotel again.
