How to Get There
This was our first trip to London, wish we would have picked different lodging. Due to having 5 people in my family, the youngest at 4, we were required to rent 2 rooms. We had requested at booking that rooms be together due to this, of course this didn’t happen. At check in, we again requested to have to rooms next or at least across the hall from each other, they couldn’t accommodate. The check in agent at the desk said something to the effect of “at least you’re on the same floor. Only one of the rooms was ready at check in, we were early, that’s understandable. Upon entry of the first room, it was really small and needed maintenance. Room looked really worn, but clean. My photo attached showed the lovely view out the window. As we have looked left, there was a speculative man, smoking cigarettes, slinging his used butts onto the roof below. Room was also hot as hell, we turned on the wall ac and left. Room eventually cooled, but again to small to house us all.
When our other room was ready to check into, we discovered it was on the same floor, but at the other end of the building. Same first impression on this room upon entry, really clean, but worn. As we walked in, again it was hot as hell, so we turned on the air. Then we discovered it was over top of a bar “Dirty Dicks”, in front of a bus station, with exorbitant amounts of people passing under our windows. As you could imagine, it never really was even close to quiet. Don’t have to describe how loud it was Thur-Sat night. It felt like we were sleeping in the back room of a club. Also there was a police station two or three doors down from the apartment. One would say this would be safe and quiet...just the opposite. Plenty of sirens throughout the night hours. The room was bigger, but that was the only positive. Washer dryer combo was in room, but did not dry clothes. Had to iron or air dry most of our clothes after washing, due to wrinkling and dampness. By the way room NEVER did cool down. I went to front desk to let them know. Agent said that the room was on central air, not a wall unit. He the. Asked if the air was blowing, which it was, his reply was “you have a fan in the room don’t you?”. It was a $20 tower fan found at Wal Mart. As you can guess, it hovered around 80 degrees the whole time. Overall, hated the accommodations and hated being in the room.
Payed a lot of money for the lodging and it I feel ripped off...
Here is a list of pros and cons for the area:
Spitafields is really close, many food options and Markets
Tube is really close (This is important, because you don’t want to stay in your room)
Bus station is really close
Market is close
Not really a tourist area, people really unfriendly
Really busy area due to being in a financial district.
Didn’t see many other families, not a family area
Bus station really, really close, really loud and busy, pretty much from 7 am-4 am
I had high hopes for this place as it was on the expensive side. We were in Apartment 403 on the fourth floor. The apartment itself is lovely. A few things though: it could do with new windows as it was very very noisy. At the moment you are opposite building works. So in the living room it is constant noise. In the lower bedroom you are above some kind of air conditioning so that’s all you can hear on a night. The bedroom on the upper floor must have been recently painted because it smelt of fresh paint. Also, the blinds didn’t fit the windows, so as soon as you turned off the bedroom room light, the light from outside shone straight through. The shower was built for a very small person - I’m 5ft 4inches and I had to hunch - which wasn’t good for my 6ft 1inch hubby. As I said it’s a lovely apartment but some things just let it down.
Really liked this place. Easy to Tube, very clean and crisp and smartly decorated. I would stay here often when in London. Rooms are ample and modern and the kitchen is stocked with all the necessities for a traveler.
