The dramatic volcanic isle of Santorini is the stuff of many a Greek myth and legend – and with good reason. Here, you’ll find endless blue skies, sunshine from dawn till dusk and spectacular sunsets, featuring mountain peaks silhouetted against a magical interplay of oranges, red and pinks. Perfectly located for taking in these natural wonders, the newly opened Estate 1896 sits in the postcard-perfect hilltop village of Pyrgos.
A former merchant family home and winery built in 1896, this hilltop hideaway is a dazzling collection of whitewashed suites, bursting with character and restored by renowned Greek architects. When you’re not sunning yourself under seemingly endless azure skies in the private courtyard garden, you’ll be able to book yourself an in-room massage, sip a cooling cocktail as the sun sets or cook up a storm on the hotel’s barbecue.
Good to know
This property is adults-only.
Junior suites, measuring in at 300-450 square feet, feature dazzling sea views and rustic, traditional Greek décor, with whitewashed walls and cool tiled floors. The Superior Canava suites, on the other hand, are downright palatial, with 13-ft. ceilings and 860 square feet of space. They also offer an en-suite bathroom (in addition to the main bathroom) and a private outdoor area.
Breakfast is served every morning in the comfort of your suite. Room service is available for other meals, and the hotel staff is happy to point you in the direction of the best eateries around the hotel.
The hotel sits in Santorini’s picturesque former capital of Pyrgos. The highest point on the island, this town affords spectacular views. You can rent a bicycle, go horseback riding in the hills or head down to the coast for snorkeling or diving. Custom excursions can be arranged upon request, such as luxury sailing trips around the volcano, as well as private guided tours around the island by boat or on land.
How to Get There
The Estate 1896 in Pyrgos turned out to be something more than a convenient place for our business trip!
The ex winery, now atmospheric hotel , and our very spacious suite, with the xx comfortable beds, the snow white bed linen and towels, the cozy couches in the living room ,the beautiful stone wash basins in both our bathrooms, all felt soo good !!
But the real pampering came from the hotel staff!
Discrete neat and friendly, they were quickly fulfilling our needs and more!!
Special thanks to Nikos the owner for his assistance and precious tips and to Christos for the tasty omelettes and local cheese pies every morning
We strongly encourage everyone who visits Santorini, to taste the authentic Greek hospitality at Pyrgos’ Estate 1896 and we will definitely come back soon!
The thing that we liked the most of the estate hotel was that it gave us the feeling that we were living in an authentic island house which offered luxurious accommodations. The staff in the hotel were outstanding, reminding us the meaning of Greek hospitality. They were also very helpul giving us suggestions for what to visit on the island and which are the restaurants that the locals prefer to eat.
Delicious breakfast in a small quiet yard with olive trees surrounding you. Great view from the terrace.
Me and my fiance stayed two nights. The hotel was very nice. Both Chris (who runs the hotel) and the owner went to great efforts to make sure everything was at it's best. They have really made it feel like we were visiting a friend, rather than staying in a hotel.
The room itself was sparkling clean and very nice, with modern design and comfy bed. We only saw it briefly, as due to an error on the booking website we got upgraded to the suite. The suite was so spacious that you could put a bowling lane in it with 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms.
For a change after other hotels in the greek islands the Wi-fi was also very fast and stable.
The only small downside is that the breakfast was pretty light.
Nice small B&B in Pyrgos. The apartment room is huge and has all the facilities you could want including it's own kitchen.
Selection at breakfast is very tasty but a bit limited. Not a big deal.
The location is near at least 5 restaurants, small convenience shops and a good bakery a few doors down. It is also a 10-15 minute walk to Santo wines to watch the sunset.
It is a great location for those who are interested in hiking up to the monastery and/or on to ancient Thea and Perissa beach, as the start of this walk is very close by.
Taxi to airport can be arranged in no time at all.
Special Thanks to Chris for being so helpful.
We had a great two night stay at Estate 1896. Very comfortable and well appointed room and tasty breakfast. Our host, Grace, couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome and well cared for. Pyrgos is a wonderful base for exploring Santorini, with easy bus access to the rest of the island but away from the crowds of the Caldera towns.
