The Lowdown

The dramatic volcanic isle of Santorini is the stuff of many a Greek myth and legend – and with good reason. Here, you’ll find endless blue skies, sunshine from dawn till dusk and spectacular sunsets, featuring mountain peaks silhouetted against a magical interplay of oranges, red and pinks. Perfectly located for taking in these natural wonders, the newly opened Estate 1896 sits in the postcard-perfect hilltop village of Pyrgos.
A former merchant family home and winery built in 1896, this hilltop hideaway is a dazzling collection of whitewashed suites, bursting with character and restored by renowned Greek architects. When you’re not sunning yourself under seemingly endless azure skies in the private courtyard garden, you’ll be able to book yourself an in-room massage, sip a cooling cocktail as the sun sets or cook up a storm on the hotel’s barbecue.
Good to know
This property is adults-only.

Junior suites, measuring in at 300-450 square feet, feature dazzling sea views and rustic, traditional Greek décor, with whitewashed walls and cool tiled floors. The Superior Canava suites, on the other hand, are downright palatial, with 13-ft. ceilings and 860 square feet of space. They also offer an en-suite bathroom (in addition to the main bathroom) and a private outdoor area.

Breakfast is served every morning in the comfort of your suite. Room service is available for other meals, and the hotel staff is happy to point you in the direction of the best eateries around the hotel.

The hotel sits in Santorini’s picturesque former capital of Pyrgos. The highest point on the island, this town affords spectacular views. You can rent a bicycle, go horseback riding in the hills or head down to the coast for snorkeling or diving. Custom excursions can be arranged upon request, such as luxury sailing trips around the volcano, as well as private guided tours around the island by boat or on land.

Pyrgos is a beautiful, picturesque village with easy access to Fira and Kamari, many restaurants set into the cliff side and stunning sunsets.
Estate 1896 is a small, friendly boutique hotel managed by Christos. Nothing is too much trouble for him, he is knowledgeable about all of Santorini and will give you terrific recommendations and advice. Breakfast is lovely and served either to your room or in the Olive Garden depending on your preference, and Christos is completely flexible about the time.
Thank you Christos and the housekeeping staff for your excellent care on our holiday.

Great Hospitality and Ambience!

We stayed in this beautiful estate for our week-long honeymoon in Santorini, and we couldn’t have been happier with the hospitality of the property manager, Christos. He upgraded us not only once, but twice! We booked the Junior Suite, but we got a complimentary upgrade to the Honeymoon Villa for some 3 nights and then to the Master Suite due to some unforeseen circumstances with the Junior Suite. He was such a great host, always friendly and willing to help!
The location of the Estate itself is very close to the main square of Pyrgos, not even 5 minutes walk, with fantastic restaurants, local bakery shop and super markets that stay open till late in the evening.
The rooms we stayed in where spot on clean with functioning heating and air-conditioning, very tastefully decorated and furnished, beds were very comfortable and there were no sounds to be heard from outside.

Great value for the money spent!

My friend and I, we had an amazing time staying in the Estate 1896. The Estate is very chaming with a beautiful garden, nice views, and great location. In addition, the customer service is simply outstanding. The manger Christos is professional and very welcoming. The Estate 1896 will be mine destination stay next time in Santorini.

Hospitality unmatched by Christos

While the apartments are lovely, spacious and bery modern, the singlemost thing that sets Estate above all others is the customer service delivered by the owner and especially by host Christos. He made sure we had his card and number and when we got lost (Google Maps is not always trustworthy), which we did, he was patient, kind, teasingly funny and arranged prompt and courteous transport back to our suite. He is a wealth of information about local sites, customs and is very respectful while having a delicious sense of humour. Breakfast was fresh (but you need to book it ahead of time, not included in room fee). The location is central but the transit system is unreliable and i would not recommend driving here. Christos, you are the host with the most!

Great place to stay in Santorini , Pyrgos a pretty much unspoilt village has good places to eat from traditional to fine dining. Easy access direct to Thira and Perissa by bus ( change at Thira terminus for everywhere else ) Estate 1896 is a boutique style hotel converted from an old winery and offers nice clean bright accommodation with a good breakfast .The hoteliers were very helpful booking trips, restaurants and taxi transfers. Wander up to the castle area (10 mins) and watch the sunset from Franco’s rooftop bar the highest habitable point on the Island.
