This hotel was told to me to have great location and a long history as the best hotel in Oslo. Well I agree the location is prime. The hotel itself I think has seen the best.
Average service from check in and the girls was more interested in their phones than guests. I had to ask for assistance before I was noted waiting.
Room is really not updated and I did not find the restaurant any special at all.
I choose hotels that I don't have to go out of if I don't want to.
Here I looked for other restaurants and service outside.
There is as I see much better options for the money in Oslo

Beautiful hotel, amazing breakfast

The hotel is beautiful from the outside and the inside. The service is outstanding. The spa that can be used for free from Monday to Friday is ver relaxing. The location is perfect, in the middle of the city. I spent 3 weeks in the hotel and did not regret any day of it. The roof top bar is also a great place to go. The breakfast is amazing. I miss the fresh raspberries every morning.

Good stay but marred by next door noisy renovation

We were staying 2 nights in a superior room. We should have had a upgrade due to my husband being a top tier points holder but the hotel was full. Lovely feel to this hotel. Great bar, great restaurant, great staff, very clean, fabulous breakfast, comfy bed. Yes, rooms are not modern - but I wouldn't say they are dated as in some previous reviews - it is the style of the hotel - it is old fashioned grandiose style. The bathroom is quite small but it is an old historic hotel.
The issue is that the building next door was having major renovations - we faced this building and got woken at 6.30 am the first morning - a Saturday with banging, shouting and an exterior lift right outside our window to transport building material up to where the builders were working. I rang and spoke to the female duty manager - we had a long chat - she was very lovely and promised me that if they started early the next morning she would be calling the police as it was to be a Sunday. She also apologized for not being upgraded due to the hotel being totally full and sent us a bottle of Bollinger Champagne to make up for the issues. The trouble was the next morning the whole noise started again, but at 7am - 7 am on a Sunday!!!! I called down to reception, but as far as we could see nothing was done, as nothing stopped and zero police came, the noise continued until we went out for the day and was still going on when we returned at 7 pm. I can't recommend this hotel until the next door has completed it's reno - which is a shame. I understand buildings need renovation but not that early and late over the weekend especially and I am surprised that Norway doesn't have noise laws to protect people from undue noise disturbance.
