How to Get There
I booked a night at Ashdown Hotel and Country club for some relaxation before starting university. The hotel, country club and grounds were all of a high standard. The staff were friendly and extremely welcoming upon my arrival. The quality of the food served at both dinner and breakfast was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this to people who are wanting an extra special weekend break. Thank you to all the staff.
We had room number 8, it was nice and big, its just I would much prefer the view of the the big pond on the other side. The smell of the room was very old, like vintage sell. it stays in our clothes and hair, didnt really like this part. I guess its because its a very old building.
Breakfast was great and the staffs was very friendly and considerate. The manager at the breakfast place Cristian is lovely, he even remember our order the next day morning and was asking us if we would like to have the same order.
Very underwhelming experience. The building is beautiful from outside and the surroundings also beautiful, but for this amount of money and for what the hotel positions and brands itself...quite a mismatch between reality and the marketing. I could have gone camping and would have had a much more fun weekend. I had even called ahead to check on the spa and was told it was function... but to our disappointment it was under refurbishment (steam room was not working etc) and only found out when we were there. Swimming pool was open, but only the smaller changing rooms were open with limited space and to be honest, not very clean either (I postponed showering).
The food at the restaurant and cafe was terrible, very underwhelming, outdated and just no care/attention to detail. The ingredients were good and fresh, but the cooking... not what I would choose to pay. In situations like this, we would normally just head out for food...but here we didn't have a choice as there were obvs no nearby restaurants and we had planned for us to just chill at the hotel.
Less of a problem was the room decor, but it could definitely do with being refreshed slightly. Overall, will not be coming back which is a pity as the surroundings are beautiful. Staff was not bad either.
