Spa break for 2 friends

Lovely grounds. Impressive hotel but the suite we stayed in was a little way from the main hotel. But we were near to the spa which was great. Dinner very nice. Breakfast was good but not fantastic. Spa treatments were very good and the staff very friendly. The pool needs a bit of work and was very dark. Unfortunately the Jacuzzi was not working which was disappointing. Good area to stay in as there's lots to do outside of the hotel. Take a wander down to the lake...lovely views from the back of the hotel.

Weekend Stay

The setting of this hotel is very nice, however there is not enough light in the rooms to its not very bright, even with the lamp, windows a bit draughty, overall the rooms and the rest of the hotel could do with refurbishing, could do with a bigger mirror than the one in the room at the side of the door, the bed was a little short I stayed in the East Wing, a bit cramped in the waiting area for spa treatments found the seating damp, thought the food was a bit over priced for what you got, Dinner very unorganised, poor and slow, breakfast very slow queue for hot food with only one person serving, gave up in the end, no explanation about ordering something else, nothing written down from the other menu no information taken, didn't even ask for room number, not enough glasses for juice, we were told that 3 people did not turn up hence the slow service that morning

Not what I expected

I booked a last minute 2 nights for a winter relax weekend. it was generally a negative experience with maybe one positivity (the location!)
The room we were given wasn't great. it overlooked the car park and it's located above the restaurant- some delivery noises are essential. The reception said no other room is available and restaurant was fully booked for 2 nights ! Maybe this is out of their control as it was a last min booking but they didn't try to make any compensations or to show any sort of hospitality. What was really unacceptable is the food service. breakfast was late - 40 min waiting ! and there was a massive queue to the buffet. Staff were obviously not trained or not ready to deal with this number of people.
Swimming pool was ok, not as heated as it should be. Jacuzzi wasn't working for 2 days - not sure why.
I would expect something a better service and a better indoor experiences for the price we paid in a low season month..
