Hidden 5 Star Resort

I heard many reviews about this resort, being a YTL Luxury property after my visit to The Majestic KL. I booked the resident package that came with full board meals. I find it kind or pricey being a local resort. With the amount paid I could have traveled aboard to Bali or Phuket and stayed in a 5 star resort.
We drove from KL which took us approximately 4 1/2 hours. The rooms are tastefully decorated (all wooden) and have a great view of the beach. There is two swimming pool to choose from and a beautiful seaside restaurant called the Nelayan.
We enjoyed a short gate away, however the weather wasn't that promising as it rain. I didnt stop us from enjoying the pool, gym and dinning.
Its a resort suitable for couples.

Tanjung Jara Resort, Dungun, Trengganu, Malaysia - A Heaven For Holiday
Reviewed 1 week ago

Tanjung Jara Resort located in Dungun, Terengganu, Malaysia is one of the best four resorts located on the East Coast side of Peninsular Malaysia, the others, southwards are: The Kasturi [Cherating], Royale Chulan [Cherating] & Mandala Resort [Gambang]. Tanjung Jara Resort was once owned and run by the State of Terengganu but it has been taken over by YTL Group who runs 5-Star Hotel in Malaysia. Our last visit was about 30 years ago which tempted us to re-visit and find out how it has progressed.

Tanjung Jara Resort is on its own and not bordered by any other resorts, its a paradise in a lonely planet. Those coming must have read reviews after reviews before deciding to come to this place. It is about one & half hours drive from Kuala Terengganu Airport if you fly by Air from KLIAor KLIA2 or 5-6 hours by road from KL depending on your driving and time of departure.

As it is a resort, all rooms are big in size to give you a relaxing feeling and there is also a balcony. There are many categories of rooms including upper floor by staircase. However we were at the Ground Floor with balcony and facing the sea & beach. The sea and beach is not directly visible if you stay at the Ground Floor as there are coconut trees and flower trees and other vegetation except those which are located northwards from the restaurant near the reception where the rooms are nearer to the beach.

The beach is private and clean but as the rooms are comfortable not many guests venture out to the beach as we noticed only a few people were at the beach every time we ventured out. Instead of sunset, the beach is facing sunrise and it was so beautiful just like a painting around 7.00 am to 7,30 am when the sun comes out and start rising. Again as it is the best time to sleep not many guests woke up early to witness this.

The welcoming is nice, the Guard at the guarded entrance will inform the reception that you are entering the Resort and they would be ready to welcome you with fresh hand & face towel and strike one sound of gong. Three sound of gong when you depart. Check-in should be easy and most staff also came from YTL's own college of hospitality.

The Resort itself is spread out in a large area and depending on your location you may need to walk quite a distance to the room as there is no buggy service. But it you treat it as a good exercise and a place to relax and wonder, it should not be difficult. Otherwise ask for the rooms nearest to the reception.

All staff were well trained and we have no problem communicating with them and they do smile most of times from all levels. We guessed that we already paid for the smile. Of course you may opt for inclusive of breakfast on without breakfast. Our advise is to take with breakfast as there is no other place to have breakfast within its vicinity. The DiAtas Sungai Restaurant [meaning Restaurant Above The River] has a beautiful setting especially if you could get a seat overlooking the river, It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and our favourite restaurant thus far and No.! in the list of restaurant in Dungun.. Breakfast is excellent with lots of choices local & western menu. The famous local menu of Nasi Dagang can be found wrapped in banana leaf and gravy topping next to it.
There is another restaurant, Nelayan located at far end next to the Family Swimming Pool which has adult and children swimming pool and also the Spa. This area has one of the most picturesque for taking photos especially in the early morning or late evening. However Nelayan Restaurant serves below par Hi-Tea, something I could not understand for YTL's reputation and during our entire stay this was the only downside factor.

The Resort could also offer connecting rooms if you are coming with a big family to keep you connected without the need to go outside. The Bed is comfortable to sleep and they provided both air-condition and fan as the resort could be very breezy during the evening and early morning. Toilet and shower and long bath are separated and you do not need to wait for your turn with your partner. There are two umbrellas in case of rain and electricity run mosquito deterrent. Parking is available for free all around the drop zone.

The nearest town is Dungun about 6 km and 10 minutes drive. Here you can find Warisan Ikan Bakar Square where you can have dinner with grilled seafood at a fraction of the hotel's price. There is also the public beach along the coastal Dungun for a change and the town you get anything that you may need including Domino Pizza, KFC and Old Town Coffee.

Tanjung Jara is for total relaxation and for you to enjoy nature in traditional local Terengganu Kampung [Village] Setting and there are activities conducted by the Resort. Well, you have to be here to experience it. No doubt, we will be coming back soon. Tanjung Jara Resort a Heaven for total holiday lovers.

We had a last minute plan to stay at tanjong jara during the chinese new year holidays.we booked the room only 2 days before coming and the price was more than usual. my tips would be, book early.

Arriving at the hotel was easy. Once at the lobby, the staff greeted us with smiles on their faces and one knock on the ‘gong’(a traditional malay musical instrument). All throughout check in we were made comfortable by letting us sit at the sofa and served with some snacks and drinks. A very considering touch since we just arrived from a long drive. After check in, we were brought to our room which was about 3-5 minutes walk. The resort was surrounded by beautiful greenery and a long stretch of private beach. Beach chairs and hammock are provided throughout the resort for guests to enjoy. There were also swings attached to the trees.

The room was just wow! We stayed at serambi. It has a king bed and a day bed which was perfect for our two sons. The bathroom was just HUGE. There is a bathtub, a separate shower area and the toilet. The whole room was just big and comfy. They also provided mosquito repellent for us which we didn't need to use since there were none during our stay.

The pool was ok. The poolside staff was really helpful. He came to us with towels before we even sit down on the pool chair. There were also lots of chair provided along the beach. You can actually sit down and enjoy the beach view anywhere you like. Our kids also get to enjoy the lovely beach. It was lovely. One suggestion is, maybe the hotel could provide the sandcastle tools for guests to play with. Luckily we brought ours. We have stayed in multiple beach hotels before and these tools were always provided which is awesome since we sometimes forgot to bring ours.
The hotel also provided some activities that you can enjoy. But, most of them needs some payment and are outside of the resort. Maybe the management can arrange more activities for the guest to enjoy inside the resort and maybe make it complimentary? My suggestion would be more activities that kids & adults can enjoy together such as traditional games, board games, etc. We would want to enjoy more time in the resort itself.
Breakfast the next morning was quite good. There was no long queue although they were full house. They served nasi lemak, nasi dagang, egg station, nasi goreng, noodles, porridge, selection of fruits, salads, bread and pastry and a juice bar.
After breakfast, we head to the reception to feed the fish and turtles. They provided some fish food for you to feed. Our kids totally loved it. We went to tour around the resort to take pictures before check out. It was really hard to leave the resort. We wanted to continue one more night but decided to wait until june - september since it will be the time when the turtles would lay eggs.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and are already planning for our next visit.

Where do I start. We drove down from the airport with no problems, easy drive on good roads. The resort is just fabulous and everything we could have wished for. We stayed in an upstairs sea view room but I think the down stairs room would have been better to get the outside patio that took in the lovely gardens. The room was gorgeous, huge, big fluffy pillows, huge bathroom and very spacious. Two pools, one for adults only but it was not busy when we were there so went down to the other pool and we loved the attentive steward who kept us topped up with lovely icey water to drink all day. The spa was lovely and we had a super massage there and loved the gym set in the gardens. Tennis court, boules, tai chi and excellent food. Monsoon season (but didnt see a drop of rain in 4 days) so the sea was too rough to swim in but didnt feel the need with the lovely pools. The staff were EXCELLENT and we loved every minute. Highly recommend this resort if you want to relax and enjoy your time as well as enjoy the local district by taking some tours from the hotel. LOVED the chef who comes to your table in the evenings to discuss what type of food you would like and who also has some foodie lessons you can book. Probably not a huge amount for kids to do except swim and go on the odd tour but gardens are spacious and board games at reception to play with. My husband also needed to do some work and happily took his lap top to a quiet spot at the adults only pool.
