What We Love

  • In a city of historic hotels, this is a rare design property where style is a priority
  • Hotel loungers on Miramare Bay mean you can sunbathe by day and sightsee come dusk
  • Seafood restaurant Vapor is one of the best in Croatia
  • Rooms are light, bright and spacious and make the most of that Adriatic panorama
  • The spa is a lovely extra if you’re here for a few nights; treatments are affordable

What To Know

  • There's a two night minimum stay for the Classic Sea View and Romantic Sea View rooms
  • Staff reckon it's half a mile from the city, but that's slightly optimistic; it’s farther to main sights (and uphill on the way back)
  • If you want cultural authenticity, Bellevue feels Euro-chic rather than particularly Croatian
  • Shiny surfaces, glass walls and sharp corners make this sleek, but child-unfriendly
  • True design buffs may be disappointed at the decor — it's dated compared with cutting-edge Paris/NYC/Bangkok standards
  • It can feel a little sterile if not at full capacity

  •  Free WiFi

Overview

The Review

Unusually for Dubrovnik, when I stayed at the Hotel Bellevue, the rain lashed down in sheets; but once I’d checked in, I realized the hotel actually came into its own on such blustery days. The concept behind the Bellevue’s floor-to-ceiling windows and wood-decked balconies is to recreate the feel of a classic ocean liner. As it’s perched right on the cliff edge (I got sea mist in my face on my visit), staying there can feel like being on a boat.

{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2400/prop-78731-1329836914-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”Eating outside at Vapor, overlooking the coastline, is a magical experience.”}The interiors are touted as “design hotel,” and by Dalmatian coast standards this is a modern place (part of the forward-thinking Adriatic Luxury Hotels group). But it couldn’t be called cutting-edge; expect blond wood floors, suede-look cubed sofas, driftwood sculptures and works by local artists (abstract oils and Pollock-style spatters).

If you’re as unlucky with the weather as I was, you’ll find that the indoor pool and spa are made for rainy days — lovely wicker daybeds surround a small pool and hot tub, and treatments are reasonably priced (from $54 for a facial). At Vapor, the seafood restaurant, and one of the best in Croatia, the food is as amazing as the views — think floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace overhanging Miramare Bay. If you don’t make it to dinner, you’ll be pleased to know that breakfast is also served there, so you get stonking views with your croissants in the morning.

Location-wise, the Bellevue enjoys the best of both worlds. The walk to the historic center of Dubrovnik may seem like a hassle — it’s a good 10 to 15 minutes, or a taxi ride — but the clifftop views as you walk to town make it all worthwhile. And the location — on the cliff edge of Miramare Bay — really comes into its own in summer. The hotel has its own pebbly beach (accessed via an elevator in the cliff), so it feels more like a posh resort. While other tourists sweat it out in cramped city center hotels, and historic Dubrovnik is swamped with cruise ship crowds, all you have to do is choose between the sea and the sun bed.

Fabulous Hotel

Just returned from a 3 night stay and enjoyed every bit of it. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The hotel was lovely, rooms were fab, had everything we needed with stunning views. Bed was comfortable too. Indoor pool and spa, very calm and relaxing. Breakfast was superb. 10 - 15 min walk down to the old town, which wasn’t too far at all. Definitely recommend.

Great location, great staff

A long weekend that we wished was longer. This hotel has great staff, so helpful and friendly. The location is amazing, close to the old town 15 mins walk. On the cliff with every room overlooking the hotel beach with great views of the coast and island. Could not fault it.

Beautiful views and understated luxury

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during our trip to Dubrovnik. The hotel exceeded my expectations. The views from the rooms and the breakfast terrace are stunning. The rooms themselves are lovely, if somewhat simple. However, the standard of service and the other areas of the hotel are outstanding. We loved the breakfasts - the food and variety of options were great and the setting is beautiful. It was also a real bonus to have direct access to the beach area, with sunbeds and cafe area. We were also impressed by the service from the hotel staff. Its a novelty these days to find a hotel where you are not woken up by the noise of cleaning staff or other guests in the mornings! We were in a room on the 5th floor, right beside the hotel reception area and we never heard any noise or disruption during our stay. We also really appreciated the hotel providing us with an upgraded room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to return to the hotel in the future.

Calm and peaceful hotel, 15-20 minutes walk from old town

The hotel was perfect for us, offering it's own beach (pebbly, take water shoes) which was a sun trap in the early part of the day (note that it is shaded from mid afternoon). We had a room with a sea view which was worth paying extra for, to really benefit from the beautiful location overlooking the sparkling bay.
Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice plus an option for something cooked despite the description of 'continental' breakfast (at no additional cost) and perfect setting overlooking the bay.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the service was excellent. Our room was not ready when we arrived (we were early) so we were given complimentary drinks whilst we waited. We didn't eat in the restaurant (as we preferred to be in the old town in the evening) but we did have lunch at the hotel which was excellent so suspect the restaurant would have been great too.
We enjoyed the walk to and from the old town, and we also walked to Lapad Beach (the opposite direction).
A modern hotel, with great facilities and a very calm atmosphere.

Lovely luxury hotel with great food

If you don't mind the hike up the hill when you've been to visit the Old Town this is a marvellous place to stay with beachside sunbathing and access to the public beach. No outdoor pool if you like that sort of thing but, personally, I don't like getting my hands wet.
Lovely room with a lovely view
