What We Love

  • In a city of historic hotels, this is a rare design property where style is a priority
  • Hotel loungers on Miramare Bay mean you can sunbathe by day and sightsee come dusk
  • Seafood restaurant Vapor is one of the best in Croatia
  • Rooms are light, bright and spacious and make the most of that Adriatic panorama
  • The spa is a lovely extra if you’re here for a few nights; treatments are affordable

What To Know

  • There's a two night minimum stay for the Classic Sea View and Romantic Sea View rooms
  • Staff reckon it's half a mile from the city, but that's slightly optimistic; it’s farther to main sights (and uphill on the way back)
  • If you want cultural authenticity, Bellevue feels Euro-chic rather than particularly Croatian
  • Shiny surfaces, glass walls and sharp corners make this sleek, but child-unfriendly
  • True design buffs may be disappointed at the decor — it's dated compared with cutting-edge Paris/NYC/Bangkok standards
  • It can feel a little sterile if not at full capacity

  •  Babysitting
  •  Bar
  •  Free WiFi
  •  Gym
  •  Handicap Accessible
  •  Parking On Site
  •  Pool
  •  Restaurant
  •  Spa

The Review

Unusually for Dubrovnik, when I stayed at the Hotel Bellevue, the rain lashed down in sheets; but once I’d checked in, I realized the hotel actually came into its own on such blustery days. The concept behind the Bellevue’s floor-to-ceiling windows and wood-decked balconies is to recreate the feel of a classic ocean liner. As it’s perched right on the cliff edge (I got sea mist in my face on my visit), staying there can feel like being on a boat.

{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/2400/prop-78731-1329836914-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”Eating outside at Vapor, overlooking the coastline, is a magical experience.”}The interiors are touted as “design hotel,” and by Dalmatian coast standards this is a modern place (part of the forward-thinking Adriatic Luxury Hotels group). But it couldn’t be called cutting-edge; expect blond wood floors, suede-look cubed sofas, driftwood sculptures and works by local artists (abstract oils and Pollock-style spatters).

If you’re as unlucky with the weather as I was, you’ll find that the indoor pool and spa are made for rainy days — lovely wicker daybeds surround a small pool and hot tub, and treatments are reasonably priced (from $54 for a facial). At Vapor, the seafood restaurant, and one of the best in Croatia, the food is as amazing as the views — think floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace overhanging Miramare Bay. If you don’t make it to dinner, you’ll be pleased to know that breakfast is also served there, so you get stonking views with your croissants in the morning.

Location-wise, the Bellevue enjoys the best of both worlds. The walk to the historic center of Dubrovnik may seem like a hassle — it’s a good 10 to 15 minutes, or a taxi ride — but the clifftop views as you walk to town make it all worthwhile. And the location — on the cliff edge of Miramare Bay — really comes into its own in summer. The hotel has its own pebbly beach (accessed via an elevator in the cliff), so it feels more like a posh resort. While other tourists sweat it out in cramped city center hotels, and historic Dubrovnik is swamped with cruise ship crowds, all you have to do is choose between the sea and the sun bed.

Overated, should’ve booked another five star
Reviewed 22 hours ago

I booked this hotel after reading all the positive reviews. I wouldn’t question the authenticity of the reviews because usually an almost 500 dollar per night five star hotel in a developing country, it won’t go very wrong. I am very wrong, however, the breakfast in this hotel is the worst I ever had - bacons and veggies were burnt like they’d never clean the pan, piled up on top of the poached eggs that is still swimming in the plate. Waiters are arrogant as they’d never received any training. Well, I’m glad that i experienced these before the dinner so that i still have enough time booking for an alternative restaurant.

Just wrapped up a three night stay here. And I am still regretting leaving. Firstly, it’s entirely remodeled rooms are exquisite. We were upgraded upon arrival from a Junior Sea View Suite to a Deluxe Sea View Corner suite which was stunning. The views of the magnificent Adriatic and Bellevue Beach below were gobsmacking. The service and hospitality of the staff, from check in to breakfast service to the beach service to the amazing Vapor Restaurant was a thing of beauty. I especially thank both Ivans, and young Robert as well as each other member of the world class staff whose hospitality was nothing short of amazing. The only criticism, if you can even call it that is that it has not outdoor pool but honestly the Bellevue Beach was a joy to bathe in and has entertaining cliff diving and a secret cave which was, again, magical. I will say the the beach is not really private or semi private. It’s public, however the hotel restaurant at the beach and hotel provide guest only sunbeds and umbrellas and the restaurant forms a sort of barrier from the mostly public side to the more seni private side for hotel guests, which is closer to the seacave. Also it is frankly refreshing to enjoy the beach, which in late June was crowded but not overcrowded, with a good mix of Tourists and locals. The locL kids were very respectful, calling me “Sir” when I asked questions about the easiest cliff dives points. Overall a stunning property, one of the best I’ve stayed in and i’ve stayed all over the place. The breakfast service was somewhat spartan but that was probably due to limited space to lay out food but they had a menu available and they were happy to prepare whatever hot dishes you liked. And Vapor Restaurant was fantastic, so much so that we canceled sought after reservations for Prora at Hotel Excelsior because we felt no need to leave this amazing property. The walk to wildly overcrowded Old Town Dubrovnik was pleasant or you can take an easy taxi ride. The only complaint you will have here is one we had. It was so wonderful that we never wanted to leave.

Fantastic all around!

We just returned from Croatia and had a wonderful time mainly due to our choice to stay at Bellevue. We arranged private car pick up/drop off from the airport which was awesome. Cost is $55 USD.

Arrived and the front desk staff grabbed our bags, walked us around to show us the property, and our room. We were on the top floor and booked an sea view with balcony. Get the balcony room!

Breakfast was included and amazing each day. Live music each evening at the bar and we ate our final dinner at Vapor (hotel dining room).

We used the spa as well. Everything was 5 star and we would totally recommend this property and go back.

A Fabulous Luxury Hotel Within Walking Distance of Old Town Dubrovnik with beach access

The Hotel Bellevue was an incredible place to stay for our long weekend in Dubrovnik.

A marvellous hotel, with friendly, helpful and courteous staff, an incredible view and very convenient for exploring Dubrovnik. I cannot fault it.

The reception gives you a taste of the under-stated yet efficient nature of the Hotel Bellevue - the views were breathtaking. Check in was smooth and since we arrived at midday, they took care of our luggage until our rooms were ready.

The rooms themselves were modern and style, with small balconies overlooking a secluded bay. Huge modern wetrooms, great toiletries, fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers, combined with large sumptuous beds to give you a feeling of luxury. The rooms were well sound-proofed and we had excellent (undisturbed) sleep.

The breakfast selection was fantastic - and for once (as someone who is gluten-free) I had a great selection to choose from, including gluten-free cereal (very rare) and toast. The waiting staff were always courteous, keen to fulfil your every wish and efficient at clearing tables. The standard of service was superb. And the breakfast terrace again overlooked the bay.

The bay itself was a sheltered spot, where hotel guests and a few locals swam and sat or lounged in the sun. Big fluffy towels in huge pyramids were available to hotel guests, who had a lift to the beach. There were sun loungers available to guests too.

The location was perfect - quiet and away from the bustle of the Old Town, but just a short walk or even shorter bus ride down the street to Dubrovnik. It was perhaps 15 minutes into town and 20 minutes walk out (as it is uphill).

We never ate an evening meal at the hotel, but given our experience, imagine it would have been marvellous.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to explore Dubrovnik and yet sit on a balcony with a fabulous tranquil view of an evening.

5* Service

Stayed here early June, the location is perfect - 15min walk to the old town, 25min walk to Lapad with the hotel having its own private part of the beach. There was never an issue getting a sun lounger as if there weren’t any free they would go and get some more. For the days when it rained the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi were fantastic to laze around. Note the gym is small but you can get cardio in on the treadmill or x-trainer and there is a small selection of free weights

The hotel has just been refurbished and the rooms are lovely and modern, housekeeping are diligent - there is a turn down service and the day we forgot to remove the do not disturb light they came whilst we were at dinner to make up the room.

Breakfast was lovely with a wide range of cold buffet items and a good selection of hot order items to order, I’d recommend the french toast as a treat with sparkling wine. The bar also makes great cocktails and lovely food - would recommend the falafel

Finally the visit was topped off with A1 customer service when they returned a souvenir I’d left behind - thanks to Zora and the team for getting it back to the UK safe and sound, hugely appreciated!

Do go and visit as it was a wonderful stay - we would highly recommend!
