Historic 19th-century bank-turned-hotel in the heart of Dublin with a restaurant and bar
Once the Allied Irish Bank, the grand 19th-century building occupies its own city block opposite Trinity College in the cultural center of the Irish capital. The 163 guestrooms and suites have contemporary conveniences like WiFi and come stocked with Heavenly Spa by Westin bath products. The Atrium Lounge has a glass ceiling five stories up and replica balconies that lend a Georgian-courtyard feel to afternoon tea, while the Mint Bar, in the former bank vaults, is a welcoming place for a Guinness in the evening. The Exchange Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is a relaxed environment with an Art Deco design that also pays homage to the hotel’s history and offers brasserie-style dining with Irish ingredients. Perhaps surprising in a country not known for healthy habits, the Westin goes out of its way to help guests take care of themselves, with 24-hour WestinWORKOUT gym, energy-boosting foods on the menus, and spa services available in guest rooms.
In the Area
The hotel overlooks Trinity College and the Bank of Ireland, and is an easy stroll from the city’s Cultural Quarter, home to museums like the Dublin Writers Museum, which offers peeks into the lives of Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett among others, and the National Gallery of Ireland, home to large collections of Irish and European art. Also nearby is Grafton Street, famous for its high-end shops and entertaining buskers (Glen Hansard of Once was at one time among them). And Dublin’s famous Temple Bar, an institution since 1840, is within easy stumbling distance home.
