This stylish 85-room hotel in the center of Bar Harbor faces Frenchman’s Cove, with beautiful views of the harbor and the ocean. The spacious rooms and suites start at 387 square feet and are fitted with Tommy Bahama mahogany furnishings, nautical-themed decor and leather chairs. Amenities include iPod docking stations, Keurig coffee systems and private balconies. The rooftop infinity pool is an adults-only sanctuary, and beverage service is provided to those lounging on the sun beds. Hotel guests also have access to the Bar Harbor Club for added entertainment and relaxation, including the full-service spa, which makes a welcome reprieve after hiking in Acadia National Park. At Paddy’s Pub there’s traditional Irish fare alongside New England favorites, such as rustic Irish stew with coastal shellfish, Guinness barbecue pork and fresh lobster bisque.
In the Area
The entrance to Maine’s stunningly gorgeous Acadia National Park is less than two miles from the hotel. When Bar Harbor gets crowded with cruise ship passengers, visitors can spend the day exploring Southwest Harbor, a quieter town a few miles away, or take to the sea on one of many available boating adventures. From June through October, whales visit the Gulf of Maine, and several whale-watching operators offer tours. Kayaking and standup paddleboarding are other popular water activities, or you can set sail on an authentic windjammer schooner for a day cruise or sunset sail. For classic Maine seafood, Stewman’s Lobster Pound serves lobsters, steamers, mussels and clam chowder, and for dessert you can’t go wrong with the fresh blueberry pie.
How to Get There
We just stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. Pros - great location to the waterfront, extremely nice staff, rooms were very clean and well refreshed each day. There is a pantry on every floor and free Poland Springs, coffee, tea, fruit and cookies (at night).
The cons: We reserved a 2 bedroom, which was truthfully no more than 2 connecting rooms with a door between the rooms removed. The price was extremely high - we knew that when we booked, as it is obviously High season, but for an ocean view rooms, it’d be nice to have known that you really have a peek-a-boo view. There is a difference between ocean view and oceanfront, but the price paid was, in my opinion, too high for the lack of real view. Noise was also an issue - you can hear your neighbors - it may have been front upstairs or next door; we are not 100% sure.
Would we recommend? Yes. Comfortable, nice, well maintained, great location. Just be aware that your view is not guaranteed.
My family of four stayed in a corner 2-bedroom suite which was nicely laid out and very comfortable. The staff was also very helpful and pleasant. However, I was surprised and disappointed upon arrival to find that our extremely expensive room did not really have the view that was advertised and pictured. As indicated by previous poster, there was so much activity and commotion outside our window - boats, children, dogs, parking lots, cruise ships- that it was far from the calming atmosphere I had expected and looked forward to. I could actually hear specific conversations from our terrace. Hotel should be more honest and transparent about this - photos are extremely misleading. We thought we were treating ourselves to something very special, which it wasn't. But convenient for Acadia and close to shops and restaurants. If you don't mind being right in the midst of all the activity, then good choice. And again, very pleasant staff across the board.
From the moment of booking thru our departure, superb attention. Rooms were perfect, view of the harbor. Everyone made us feel welcome.
Location couldn't be better. Don't hesitate to stay here.
Only question would be why rate changes day to day, but that doesn't change the review
